...? Why do you think I wouldn't want to watch a French version of Downton Abbey? :p

As much as I love reading Balzac -- the Third Republic? How gauche.

Oh God, it's so awful it's brilliant. :p Then again, Dame Maggie Smith can make even a ridiculous Santa hat look good.

Finally caught up with watching the season 3 finale. What can I say, it was a perfect ending to a season that I've felt has been weaker than the previous ones. I was stunned by Sybil's death but the way it was played out in the episode itself I knew it would happen from her first symptoms. Strangely enough my favorite character this season has been Tom, and I really didn't like him in the start and the wiay he patronized Sybil. My only minor thing is that I would expect an Irish nationalist to have played a few games of hurling, so hitting or catching a ball shouldn't be something new.

I can't wait for the Christmas special, which will be broadcast here next Saturday.

Pretty good Christmas episode I thought, although it didn't really need to be 2 hours long to get done what it needed to do.

Predictable ending given that it was already known Dan Stevens wasn't going to do Downton anymore, but it was well done to leave you guessing as to when and how it would happen.

Happy endings are clearly not allowed at Christmas

To restore equilibrium, Branson should marry Mary :p

Not sure where the show is going to go with the next series, I hope it will be the last because I fear it going downhill if they milk it too long.

Carson should hold a baby in every episode. I'm just saying.

at least we know bates and anna are safe from death's clutches. the writers like tormenting them too much to ever allow them to escape into the sweet embrace of death

Damn you, Dan Stevens, DAMN YOU for not signing up for series 4. GRRRRRR!

Also, how annoying was Edna? Glad she's gone. Although I wonder if she'll pull an Ethel and come back as a prostitute..hahaha.

I wish Clarkson and Mrs. Crawley had gotten together. They were so cute! And yes, Carson holding the baby was SUPER ADORABLE. I died. No, wait, that was Matthew. Ugh.

I found this episode a bit stale. We've seen most of it before:
Man wooing an older woman at a carnival (twice in this ep)
Rehash of the Thomas and Jimmy saga
Housemaid falling for a member of the family, leading to her departure
Birth of baby and subsequent tragic death of parent
The return of Rose, who I didn't find endearing the first time - and her family didn't change that impression
Lady Edith's choice of another man her family won't approved of

I did like the moments with the Bates, baby Sibyl, and dancing Moseley, but otherwise this one seemed sluggish. And of course I'm sad about Matthew :(

I didn't like Rose the first time I saw her, but I liked her in this episode. I agree that some things were reused, but I thought the Jimmy/Thomas thing was less of a rehash and more of a closure plot line.

I like Rose. :( I also like Shrimpy too. Poor guy.

And I suspected that it was going to be a hunting accident or something -- when the baby was born and the episode was winding down, I thought we'd made it through okay, but as soon as I saw the car I was like "oh, they're going for a T.E. Lawrence here"

Just seen it. Very angry at Dan Stevens right now. The whole thing felt like a pick-up scene shot later than the rest because they didn't know what Stevens was going to do until it was too late to do anything else.

It's possible, though part of me suspects we have the baby because Stevens was leaving -- there had to be Crawley continuity.

    crawley continuity!!

i love how the nature of the show makes it quite difficult to simply write out the aristocrats - they pretty much have to die. which means, unlike in real life, they have a much lower surviveability than the servant class
