I dread writing those types of scenes, but for different reasons. Generally, I feel that I simply can't do them justice, or write them correctly, or will overdo them, or everyone's characterization and dialogue will be forced, I might gloss over stuff, etc. Personally, I find those types of scenes easier when written from more of an outsider point of view.

While I've only had to kill off one character (that wasn't a single-use throwaway, etc., that is), it was far easier to write than I thought it would be. Mostly because I already had half the story written in my mind and because it was "continuity porn" in that it was my fanon version of a canon character's backstory (Atton Rand, if you're curious). I've had thoughts about a future story in which a major, long-used character does cop it, but haven't got nearly as far as to have to worry about the scene itself. That said, if/when it does go down, I really don't anticipate having too much trouble developing the narrative and/or doing the character justice. I've already set out in my mind that it has to be done, and after getting over such hurdles in writing stories, most everything else just seems to fall into place. Lucky me, I suppose.

You know you're a fan fiction writer if your pet(s) remind you of one of your characters, or you take inspiration for (a) character(s) from your pet(s).

You know you're a fanfic writer when you go for a walk and look at all the houses, and decide which houses your characters would live in and why.

The internet ecosystem suffers from a terrible lack of saber-toothed billy goats. Troll overpopulation is the inevitable tragic result.

...when you plot a series arc for a new lead in a TV show, before said lead has even been cast.

(The seventh series in my increasingly-in accurately-named Doctor Who five series arc, and Peter Capaldi.)

You could also torture him with my lousy Bed of Eternal Pain. :p

...you've considered turning one of your stories into a visual novel.

...you've seriously considered going through the trouble to make a fanfic text adventure (or choose-your-own-adventure, for less programming).

When your reaction to the probable loss of most/all of the EU in upcoming films is: "Okay, fine! I don't actually mind seeing something new in the films. It'll be a breath of fresh air. But no one will understand my EU-based fanfic in five years! Oh, the humanity...":_|

When you set out to write one -- just one -- short story (That means brief! Succinct! Punchy! Compact! Brain, are you even listening? Is that a research list I see forming in your muddled neural pathways? Why do I bother?) and end up with what you suspect will be the beginnings of another epic. Staaaaaang. And then you set out to write another, and end up with same. And declare victory, because at least this one has an ending point in sight. You can leave it as a mildly AU oneshot. You don't have to write the follow-up stories. You can stop any time you like...

When, in the first five minutes of watching a tv show or movie, you already have the entire plot figured out and have decided that you would have written a much more interesting (and less predictable) story.
