That's one of the better charity singles, I think. Nice change to have an upbeat song. And Eric Idle!

The original recording is fantastic as well; you can find it on the definitive Armstrong collection, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. One of those moments when you realize that the boundaries we slap on music are so arbitrary and useless: blues, country, jazz . . . what's the diff?

A couple of Dave Matthew's Covers that are quite good:

Sweet Caroline- Video's not great on this one, but the song sounds pretty good, minus the crowd.

All Along the Watchtower - Their version of the song, which is very popular at concerts, and have been for a long time.

Cortez the Killer - Another Niel Young cover by these guys.

Time of the Season- This is a pretty good one.

Dave Matthews and Trey Anastasio- Waste - Trey's song Waste, done when he was in Phish.

Blackbird - Crappy video quality with this one, but you can hear it okay.

My favorite band, Carbon Leaf, has some pretty good covers out there:

Bron-Y-Aur-Stomp - Carter, the guitarist, is fantastic with this song - Seen live, it's pretty cool.

I'm On Fire - They've just started doing this one, and it sounds pretty good.

Mary Mac - This is one of their bigger songs, they've been playing it for years.

Elvis's Run On - Haven't heard this one before.

    All Along The Watchtower

Check that one out. The Rattle and Hum version is better, but not on youtube.

"Holy Mother" is by far the best song off of his album August.

Can't argue with that - love the 'one-note solo' especially.

Not sure if you meant you'd never heard the song or just that version of it; regardless, there are at least two other great versions of the song:

Moby's awesome version off his best album, the staggering Play And ignore the goofy music video on this one.

Johnny Cash's stomping gospel version from American V And ignore the stupid "look at me, I'm a cameo" video.

It's a traditional song, so I'm not sure if these really count as "covers," per se, since even Elvis' version was a version of the traditional, pre-existing song. But still . . . great song and great artists, so . . .

Not a cover per se, but Springsteen rearranges his own Blinded By The Light with his Seeger Sessions band.

    Fun!

NB: Montage of a bunch of different footage over the audio bed.

    Holy **** Marcus, that's ****** cool!

Not quite so unexpected, considering Ringo picks up a bunch of old coots and tours every year pandering to the classic hits crowd.

    Oh man.

Kermit the Frog covers Johnny Cash's take on Nine Inch Nails's Hurt.

Also does radiohead's Creep, but the video's not as good.
