Well, I decided to make some cover art for the fanfiction I'm making, and I was just wondering if this was any good.

I made this for a friend of mine for her fic.

And then this is just a little something

I really really like the colours in this one. Nicely blended and very vibrant. Very nice work!

I've uploaded this to several sites, but no one ever seems to give any feedback, so thanks.

Oh, these are awfully cool, zonzo! I love them -- they're really fascinating pieces. Love the colours. :D I think my favourties are this and this. :)

How do you make them, if you don't mind me asking?

Well, I take a standard space background, I fill it with colours, nebula, asteroids, ect., and then I start adding detail.

Also, I took the cover art for the upcoming Shadows of Mindar book, and changed it to fit the new story I'm doing, To Venture the Dark Places.

Well, I travel a lot, so I get to see some pretty extraordinary places. Most of the things I hand draw, though I use photoshop CS3 to change some of the mistakes I make.

^^ I concur. Nicely done, the alteration looks non existent and it looks like it could be the real cover. On an unrelated note; Anyone know if Shadows of Mindar has come out yet? It's not in any of the stores up here in Canada...

I don't know why you call these pics 'attempts'. They are truly wonderful! I showed some to my mom and she was blown away, as am I. I've seen the one before though, about a year or so ago when I was looking up space pics for something I was working on.

I would love to know what techniques you use, even though I'm a long way from having CS3. Do you think this could be done on Elements 6, or is it not powerful enough? I'm still rather new at all this, and due to DRL have to learn pretty much by trial and error, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have anything else? I'd love to see it! =D=

Nicely done, zonzo! I agree that these are far from 'attempts.' These are well thought out and beautiful!

    I assume you're using PS?

Yep, CS3. Again, I also travel a lot, so I've seen many versions of our bright, stary sky, which gives me a lot to work with.

Tip: You'll never be able to make your dream-art unless you go out and look for it.

Like I said before, I've uploaded most of my art to several different sites (It always bring a sense of pride to my heart when I see my pics on google!)

As for techniques, I just Take a standard space backdrop, make a few planets, pencil in a few translucent clouds, color them, then use CS3 to clean up a little. Also, everything I make is HAND DRAWN. I only use PS to clean things up, though, as you can see, they're sometimes a little more noticeable than not. (The beach drawing comes to mind. I couldn't get the rocks to not look fake. [face_tired])
