Amph Charles Stross - Rule 34 (and other works)

Didn't see Stross listed in the author index and a Google search didn't bring up a dedicated thread. I read his book Halting State awhile back and I just started his Rule 34.

Stross is unique in that both of these books use the second person viewpoint extensively. ('You' is the main pronoun, as opposed to I/We for first person and He/She/It/Them for third). Most writing guides you will read tell you not to do this as it is rather hard to pull off without having the novel sound like a choose-your-own-adventure book but he manages to do it. Rule 34 has the policing of Internet porn as its basis. (Rule 34 is 'If you can think of it, there's porn of it'). I recommend reading one or the other if only to see his technique.


He's done other works but these are the only two I've bought. Any other Stross fans here?

 

Never read anything of his, but color me interested.

 

I finished Rule 34. It was pretty good. It's a sort-of sequel to Halting State but I think you could read it standalone. There were some 'unique' causes of death in this one. Definitely adult material!
