    Mika it looks fantastic on you! Does it pass 501st standards? Is this the one I seen you in on the Mid South Garrison Boards? If so, I'm going to purchase it myself for entry into the 501st. I have a birthday present coming for my Commander Appo that I think he is going to flip over. I'm so excited!! His birthday is April 16th and I can hardly wait to give it to him. It will be here in about two weeks, in plenty of time. Its not complete, but it's a dang good beginning. I don't want to say exactly what it is yet... I want to surprise everyone with what I'm doing for him. Tee-Hee!!! ;)

    Zannah, that IS my newest costume you've seen on the MidSouth Garrison boards...but please note just because it's a licensed costume does not make it an automatic approval into the 501st. It's not just who makes it but how it looks and fits on YOU. I'm pretty lucky at 6 ft tall and average build that most things fit me pretty well out of the package but it's safe to say you and I have very different body types :). Please read that review and discussion I linked at the Imperial Officer detachment and lurk around there a bit (I did) before you spend the money on it. You may want to get someone to custom make you an officer uniform. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    And I too can't wait to see your surprise for Appo :)

    I really want to do an imp officer, but man, the price on those is steep, and THEN I'd have to turn around and have it tailored. Overall, though, what's your impression on the build quality and materials, Mika?

    I'm pretty much in agreement with the review I posted. The calf of the trousers is tight, except for the gloves (which are unuseable) the accessories are top notch, I had to add a pin back to the badge but the badge itself was good, the belt buckle is good, the hat is okay (I like the stiffer Costume Base hat) and the belt boxes are good. The tunic is thick and sturdy which is good for durability but will be a bear in hot weather. It's thicker than a blazer/suit jacket AND it's double breasted so you actually have two layers of cloth across your chest. Another negative is there are no pockets anywhere. I think I have a work around but I'll save that for another post once I test it. You can also use the same costume, once you get the shiney black dome type helmet, for an Imperial Navy Officer. The military style black jacket and trousers are also a good base for another secret costume I have in the works. So I'm hoping to get a little extra use out of this costume for the price I paid.

    There are cheaper ways into the 501st...see the post on the Imperial Crew costume.

    I've actually ordered a Costume Base Imperial Officer for a fun costume project, not for membership as there are some problems with the CB Imp Officer outfit. It's said it's a thinner material which critics point to how cheap it is but I think it will be a lot more comfortable for what I have planned. When I get that fun project together I'll post it here :)

    It might look a bit weird when you go for it, but there are poofy pant legs-which means you can always wear a drop pouch UNDER your pants. It's one of the ways we get around storage in Ren garb. Scots wore their sgian-dubh in their socks, and boot knives are part and parcel. You can hide a lot without pockets.

    True, in fact during my spandex superhero costuming days (I'm still doing superheroes-just without the spandex) I would just tuck my wallet down the side of my boot. That will work for the Imp Officer as well.

    Heh...depends on which version you're doing. At one point he's a Sith Apprentice and (if you play light side) at another he's a good guy. For the good guy version you can join the Rebel Legion forums and ask for help. Costume standards can be found here...
    http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14193
    For the bad guy version it looks like that falls under the Expanded Universe detachment of the 501st. Forums can be found here...

    Also if I didn't mention The Dark Empire Zannah would force choke me. I'll let her speak up if they have any standards for that costume yet.

    FOr your first outing, I'd go with a DE or RL approval, over the 501st. While there are some really solid people in the 501st, there can be "issues", shall we say, with costumes from the EU. It isn't so much that they don't accept them (they do) but there can be some real sheds. No group is immune to it, but the very (very) firm grounding in movie cannon that formed the 501st still thickens the waters, sometimes.

    Okay...the reveal of my newest costume...okay, not so much a cannon costume as an fun outfit. Found out at ConNooga there's a 501st detachment for kilt wearers. All you need to join is your 501st ID # and a kilt. You don't even have to have a kilted costume (although most of the members do). I've had my khaki utilikilt (utilikilts are allowed) for years so it was an easy decision to join "The Kilted Trooper Brigade". Still I wanted something that looked a little more Imperial so I ordered a black Utilikilt.

    The officer top in the second picture is a CostumeBase and it's as thin and cheap as everyone has said. But in this case thin works because I'm able to tuck it in my waistband for a cleaner look. I'd never be able to do that with my Museum Replica Officer top. Plus this is more of an "after hours" or party outfit and if I spill something on it it's not as big a deal.

    No show and tell this time, just more of an observation. Syfy was trying to be like Spike and had a Star Trek marathon over the holiday weekend. I caught "Star Trek:The Motion Picture" (or Star Trek I) for the first time in years and I have to say they really had some neat costume designs. But I've never seen anyone wearing reproductions at a con...it's mostly always Original Series or Next Generation. The original movie doesn't get any love from costumers. The designs in the original movie were also pretty much never to be seen again in any other movies which makes them even more unique. Since I'm not a big Trek fan I don't know if there's a story behind it or what. Makes me wonder a little.

    A lot of people don't like the "SloMotion Picture PJ's." I, personally, prefer the WoK jackets and pants.

    Hey, since there are a few of us, I figured I toss this out there. Anyone have any idea how the Jedi robes in KotOR I work? I've been replaying it, and the wrap has really got me. If I can figure it out, I can "commission" (also known as bother her when she isn't doing a show) my mother to helping make one.

    I have a post up on the RL page, but I know not everyone is over there.

    Okay, my latest costume, that made it's debut at Light the Night, is an AOTC Dooku.
    [image=http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/jedimika/Light%20the%20Night%20Walk%2010-1-2011/222.jpg]
    It took a while to get together but was actually very little real work. The black double breasted military tunic, pants and boots are from my Museum Replicas Death Star Officer. The cape is from my seamstress and the cape clasps come with the cheap Rubies Dooku cape. The saber is a Hasbro FX, so really the only part of the costume I had to make was the belt which wasn't too difficult.

    Probably the most attention I had to give to the costume was the hair and beard. I needed a way to color it white that didn't involve the white spray-in stuff. I've used it before for another costume (a classic Nick Fury) and it flaked off and left me with powdery shoulders. Plus it's hard to control the spray and I was going to be spraying it in my face/beard. So after some research I came up with the simple method of just using the same white makeup you use on your face and putting it in my hair. You just gently sponge it in and then hit it with some hair spray to seal it in.
    Good video here...

    I Do have a little of my own natural white as you can see here
    [image=http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/jedimika/Dooku%20Refs/205.jpg]

    Just plain white face make up
    [image=http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/jedimika/Dooku%20Refs/2112.jpg]

    and you get this
    [image=http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/jedimika/Dooku%20Refs/209.jpg]

    [image=http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/jedimika/Dooku%20Refs/207.jpg]

    Came out pretty good I think.

    Thanks. I won't always be able to pull off Han (although I could do grandpa Han from the EU books) so I have to look ahead to costumes I can age into. I also have the option of doing young(er) Dooku from when he left the Jedi Order, became a Sith Apprentice and recruited Jango. This pic is from the EU comic trade ?Jango Fett:eek:pen Seasons?
    [image=http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/jedimika/Dooku%20Refs/youngdooku2.jpg]
    Basically the same just not any white in the facial hair.
