On the cover of the book Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void (which will be released in May, 2013) the woman on the cover is holding some kind of sword-like weapon that isn't a lightsaber. I know the story takes place during the "Before the Republic" era when Jedi's were called Je'daii's, but what what is the weapon that the woman is using in the picture? Were lightsabers invented then?

No- but "Forcesabers" were, and they looked like lightsabers.

Her weapon looks like neither of these- maybe it's just a sword- or maybe its a slightly more sophisticated vibrosword.

I think background material for the early Jedi said they infuse their weapons with the power of the Force- making them tougher and better at cutting.

Hopefully it is a Force-imbued sword.

I will not, however, be shocked if it just ends up being another Forcesaber and the artist gaffed.

This thread works better with the pic:

As the comic shows, just about all Je'Daii have specially-crafted metal swords. This looks just like one of those.

It is a sword, most likely made out of Madog steel.

    But are we sure it's a sword? Couldn't it be a D-----

    ok I won't say it.

I know I've said it before, but seriously, that's a fantastic cover. Why can't they all be like that -- more adventuresome and less like a family portrait? (Crucible, I'm looking at you....)

I hope this will be a worthwhile read. Won't this be the earliest EUverse novel?

And unless you count the flashback at the beginning of DOTJ#1, it's the earlier EU work of any medium.

It's sword. There's one sword in Xesh's hand in DotJ to compare it with.

I wasn't planning on reading this, but the cover is gorgeous; the best I can remember for a while.

But does it contradict the EU? That is the pertinent question here.

I know this thread is really about the sword question, but it seem the back cover has been revealed on the SW Book FB page (have we seen this before? Has anyone really cared about a backcover since FOTJ?:p)

Nah, we haven't seen it. But that back cover has cemented this cover in the library of every generic high fantasy/sci-fi cover ever.

    Chick on the front? Check.

    An old-fashioned weapon? Check.

Weird alien object floating in the background? Check.

Bright shot of a random planet? Check.

    Blue and orange contrast? Check.

OMG! TYTHON IS IN THE DEATH SPOT?!

I guess this novel is the one where Tython will explode.

Not a big comic reader, though I've read up on DotJ on the Wook. Very much looking forward to reading this novel.
