Just wondering if you'd like to have a Xmas meal sometime in December?

It'd be nice to wrap up the year with a meet that as many of us can attend.

Perhaps we could have this somewhere central (like York or Leeds) and that is somewhere that people can get to and from in a day? I know it's still a while away yet, but we'll need to organise something soonish and reserve a table.

    Any suggestions? [face_thinking]

Would be cool to have a big xmas with everyone.

Food wise, I wouldn't mind a xmas dinner since I might not have one at home this year :p

I'd say York, much prettier (I think I was the only one who stayed in Leeds last time, wasn't the nicest of stays lol).

Chrimbo veggie dinner here I come. We need a venue then, and asap because most places doing that kind of thing fill up with local companies in the first few weeks of December

Can people have a think about dates for this? I?m guessing a Sat would be best, which means either 1, 8, 15 or 22 Dec?..?

    General York info:

    http://www.whatsonyork.com/

    http://www.visityork.org/

Two reasonably priced restaurants below?it looks like lunch is the cheaper option and may be a better idea than staying too late for those of us going home the same night.

    http://www.monkbarhotel.co.uk/christmas/festive_christmas_lunch.php

    Served between 12pm-2.30pm £13.50/head
    £10 deposit

    http://www.nineteenyork.com/

    £14.50
I?ve emailed them to ask about serving times and the veggie option.

Like I say, we?ll need to get a firm idea of date/attendees asap, as we?ll need to book in advance and pay a deposit. I?m happy to pay that and get the money back at the meet.

Early Dec would be best for me but would be better if I had a rough date so I can book the time off asap

There was mention of having a Xmas meal in Edinburgh, but it's just too close to Xmas for people to go to a meet that far away. Somewhere more central like York or Leeds seems to be a better idea for people, so this is why this thread has been started.

Well remembered, Martina. I know it's your birthday at the start of Dec and there was talk of having a Xmas meal/birthday meet and by looking through that thread people were suggesting Leeds or York too, due to the poor pulic transport to Harrogate.

What do people want to do for a date? By the looks of it, the 1st or 8th is best. Shall we go for Sat 8th (gives us time to save up from after GMEX?).

We'll also need to decide which time of day is best for us- do we have a Xmas lunch or dinner? Bearing in mind that a dinner will be more expensive and people will also need to think about getting home.

8th should be no worries for me. Not worried about curry lol, though tis tough finding a good place that isn't too expensive for Chrimbo dinner - Suzi had mentioned lunch because most places we've seen come in at about £11 for that, but evening meals are nearer £20 each for Chrimbo dinner ;) But lunch will mean Dave misses out, and we don't want that either.

Check out the two links in I posted earlier....I think they look pretty nice.......what do people think??
Has anyone been to these places??

If we end up going for the lunch, there's no reason why we can't meet up with Dave later?

I'm adding Coz and Martina to the list too, as it sounds like you'll both be able to make it....

    TENTATIVE DATE: SAT 8th DEC

    1. Suzi (any Sat in Dec)
    2. Tim (first two Sats in Dec)
    3. Dave (Either I'll be working until 4pm)
    4. Jase (first two Sats in Dec are good for me)
    5. Martina
    6. Coz

Hehe, I think we're both posting at the same time, Martina......We'll need to know sooner rather than later, as I imagine places will start to get booked up.

Thing with Christmas dinners at places is the good ones get fully booked soon, especially by companies. Our library dept is already trying to get ours booked for this year since they have had disappointments before.

Forgot to say - I'll stay over in York on Sat night, most likely the Elliots's hotel, and travel back at my own leisure on Sunday. Heh, that's going to be the first meet where my final destination isn't Southport, gonna be weird.
