Colon McNeil
    Callsign: Wolf One
    Flight Deck, USS Abraham Lincoln

The rain was coming down in sheets now, and the lightning etching across the sky did nothing to lessen the foreboding sensations any of the personnel stationed on the Abe. While his men, and the other squads ran their final equipment checks McNeil stood near the edge of the flight deck observing the storm front. He imagined that if some fanciful writer was documenting the events he'd describe the storm in some sort of lyrical opus. To McNeil however it was a tactical aspect.

"Computer." The word was mouthed, not spoken, picked up only by the sub-vocalization processors of the suit, which responded with a light 'ping' in McNeil's commlink signifying that the suits computer was listening for a command. "Tactical map; weather. Radius of 500 miles." A second ping replied and the helmets LED display system came to life displaying a semi transparent map of the area. The military satelloons deployed over the world to counter the Covenant's destruction of the satellite system was thankfully just as functional and accurate at transmitting data.

The map showed the location of Guam, which was now highlighted in "Earth green" signifying that it'd been taken back. It also displayed the Lincoln and her battle group, as well as the Covenant facility over the trench. McNeil however knew all that relevant data, he was more concerned with the large patches of yellow blue and red being displayed on the map moving into the area. Some egg head on the Abe had suggested it was a result of the atmospheric stabilization caused by the floating facilities descent through the atmosphere. McNeil really didn't care he was going to use it to his advantage.

"Comm; all teams." The computer kicked in and opened a comm channel to all the assault teams and their Osprey crews. "Attention all assault teams and crews. We're leaving now." Mother Nature put an exclamation point on the statement by issuing out a klaxon of thunder. "Grab your gear and get onboard your transports. "We're gonna ride this storm front all the way to the Facility and use it to cover our approach. If you aren't strapped in and ready in five minutes you're sorry asses are gonna be left behind and you'll miss all the fun!"

About a dozen or so different identification lights shifted from yellow to green across the top of Marcus' HUD as the units responded. However over the Comms a voice that sounded a tad too much like the crewman from earlier who helped him put on the suit's voice came through. "Someone's trying a bit too hard to fall under the Badass Colonel trope."

"Stow it crewman, I don't have to try. I just am!" There was a moment of dead air over the channel before the subtle click of someone deactivating their comm came through. A moment later McNeil closed his outgoing channel, "Damn swabbies." Taking a step back from the edge of the deck McNeil took a deep breath and marched over to the loading ramp of his squad's Osprey. His men were already inside and secure, taking his place with his men he commed the flight crew. "This is McNeil. My men are stowed and ready to go."

Several minutes later McNeil's Osprey and the others lifted off from the flight deck of the Abraham Lincoln and started their way towards the Covenant Facility across the leading edge of the storm front. One or another, something nasty was on its way to the floating platform.

IC: As Lieutenant Terry M. Anakowski and Hisashi Mori.

As Sargent Gibbons listened to the wall Hisashi Mori approached the two augmented warriors with an improvised hand bag stuffed with cyber-parts and other items he'd thought would be of use for their eventual escape from this hell hole. Lieutenant Anakowski approached a second iris portal then began gingerly tapping it, watching it with his augmented sight. This one had a different color about it. A cooler blue marked a segment where there was a wheel inside the housing of the iris portal's mechanism. He carefully etched a cut into the wall's side with his newly discovered digital blades until it was weak enough to punch through. He did so with ease. An obvious backup system was revealed for opening the iris. Anakowski made use of it. It opened to reveal a Covenant engineer. The creature hovered in the center of the room beyond the iris staring at the young Lieutenant. Hanging from what could have passed for its shoulders to a strap was a device. The creature didn't move other than to breath. Anakowski stepped back from the thing, slowly.

"Sargent, Gibbons. We have a living alien over here in this side room," he said very calmly.

Gibbons turned and flattened himself against the wall, expecting a torrent of needles and plasma. When none came, he edged across the room, still against the wall, until he was parallel to the door.

    "What species?"

"I have never seen this one before."

    "What?"

Gibbons leaned around and saw the hovering pink creature. It seemed harmless, It kept it's distance, wasn't obviously armed, and had no obvious natural weapons like claws or teeth. Maybe it was poisonous.

The thing gestured. It gestured very slowly, maybe it was trying to show it meant no harm. Gibbons decided to go with that assumption, but he did not gesture back, as his hands had unconsciously transformed into the contents of a kitchen drawer again. He did not want to appear threatening.

Wonder if it's connected to adrenaline... He thought.

"Who are you? What are you? What is going on?"

The creature reached behind it and picked up a piece of technology clearly of covenant manufacture. It was not a weapon. He could tell that. It touched some keys, and the peculiar holograms just above the surface changed. The creature shifted its focus back to Gibbons. Gibbons waited for some kind of response.

As Gibbons observed and watched a voice played out from the device. "Greetings brethren. Fear not, this one means no harm. Allow this one to assist as this one is not able to fight. This one can repair. This one can build. This one can help you. This one is alone. This one knows of infestation. Allow this one to help. No kill this one." The alien hovered silently, waiting.

Hisashi Mori stepped closer to the newly opened portal then began speaking in similar nuances back to the alien creature. "These ones are warriors," he said gesturing towards Gibbons and Anakowski. "This one is a helper and builder. We need your help to leave here. Can you help us to leave this place and return to where we came from?" he asked.

The creature cocked its head in a see saw manner for the translation to holographics then pressed more pads and keys in response.

"This one will help you to return to your place where you came from. This one urges you to hurry. The other is
recuperating. The other is a builder and controller. The other is able to use anything to serve its will in time. We must be quick in order to leave."

Hisashi turned and looked at Gibbons and Anakowski.

"Does this other used parts from your friends from before now?" he asked.

Again its head see sawed as it watched the holographic response, then it answered him with a pad pushed.

"yes," was all the alien builder said.

"We need to vamoose fast," said Hisashi, looking at the others.

Terry spoke up, "Can you help us get through these portals that have been closed?" he asked.

"Yes this one has the key to help open the portals," the alien answered. Anakowski turned to the others, "I suggest we make our way to some form of local transportation or head topside for a quick EVAC," he said.

Location: Somewhere in the bowels of the Forerunner Heavy Cruiser
    In Game:

Spore-123 flexed its new limbs gingerly at first and then with more alacrity and vigor. The cannibalization process was successful. It was time to relocate outside the hulk of its old domain and conquer this new one from without. Drones-newly processed-were dispatched along with processed Grunts to investigate the outer reaches of the Covenant facility; that plus more winged surveillance platforms with greater ability to fight and protect themselves. It was obvious that those who had been present earlier had vacated. But not all apparently had done this. There were some stragglers about the outer facility yet to be captured and made use of. Spore 123 found them to be a minor annoyance that would soon be rectified. Next spore 123 would send teams of repair drones to reset the aerial defense stations topside of the facility while simultaneously repairing what it had perceived earlier as the facility's shields. Logically, Spore-123 believed it would be a matter of time before the gunnery inhibitor virus was eliminated by the orbiting fleet's operatives. Thus it would behoove Spore-123 to commence immediately. It did!

Try as he might, he still could not relax enough in the alien presence to allow his hands to return to flesh. So he accepted that for the time being that he will be armed and make the best of it.

The creature suggested re-opening a portal. Gibbons heartily agreed.

"Anything to get out of here." he said. then he added: "Do not be alarmed when you emerge, whatever you people... err, whatever altered us has installed weapons systems on us. Do not be alarmed by the blades. I do not know yet how to control this, but I will not harm you."

Obviously, why would I? Looks like you are our ticket out of here. Then, we shall see. He thought.

He paused a moment as he stepped away from the closet-like alcove that the pink extraterrestrial was beginning to emerge from, and assessed his thoughts of a moment ago. Was that really him? As a soldier he'd been trained to be aggressive in dealing with problems, but solutions involving violence now seemed to be omnipresent in his thoughts. He wondered if this was a further "Blessing" of extra-terrestrial manufacture.

"OK, E.T. Let's go." he said. Noting out of the corner of his eye that Anakowski and Mori were eyeing him with curiosity. They'd noticed the personality shift as well. Gibbons took deep breaths and willed away some of the aggression.

Hisashi and Terry then looked at one another before moving on towards the first portal. Engineer Megwa Noknuk moved towards the opening made by Terry moments before by his claws. His tentacles slithered into the opening and made adjustments seconds later a turning of metal to metal could be heard as the iris of the portal opened slowly. Finished, Engineer Megwa Noknuk withdrew his appendages and floated through the opened portal with Anakowski and Mori in tow. Outside was a large hallway strewn with Covenant debris of varying sorts. Megwa went towards the different piles of Covenant items searching. Soon his tentacles found items of use that would come in handy later as need arose. One of the Items was a plasma rifle from a dead Covenant Jackal who'd been changed somehow with odd looking augmentations to the cranial area and the spine. Wiring entered and exited at different locations along both areas of its body. Megwa gently placed the weapon upon the floor, business end aimed away from all parties, letting the humans decide for themselves who would acquire it.

"This weapon is still usable brethren," said Megwa.

Next the Engineer returned back to the pile and retrieved a wrist band of ceramic material. Tentacles flew over the device and soon a flash appeared, forming into a glowing shield. The Engineer showed the rest of the party how the activation and deactivation process worked. Again he lowered the scavenged item to the ground, for the humans to divvy up amongst themselves.

Suddenly, a sound of wings came from around a corner several hundred feet down the hall way. Megwa still hovering yielded ground from the direction of the sound. Within seconds of the sound's initial introduction 15 more of the winged cyber-horrors rounded the corner and approached at speed towards the party.

He heard, rather than saw or felt, his hands turn to blades and bucklers. The steel insects seemed to regard them for a moment, then came buzzing in. But it seemed surprisingly slow, as adrenaline drove his battle-senses into overload. They seemed to approach sluggishly, in fact, as Gibbons almost nonchalantly dropped into a squat position, and slashed with his bladed right hand while thrusting with his bucklered left.

The cyberbug on point was cut into five separate pieces so cleanly that it continued forward several feet before sloughing apart, disgorginig oily metallic ooze. His buckler pushed another one away with a clang as it attempted to strike. Gibbons rolled out of the squat as stingers stabbed at the air all around him. He rolled up onto his heels, now behind the drones. A number of the drones broke off to face him, lowering the odds against the rest of the group.

Anakowski snatched the Plasma Pistol from the floor where Megwa had set it down, even as the wing beating of the flying horrors slowed to something akin to humming birds captured on high speed camera film, flapping their wings in slow motion. He tuck rolled laterally to his right placing himself between them and Megwa. Hisashi in turn retrieved the Covenant Jackal Energy Shield and energized it, using it as both a barrier and a bludgeon to drive back the onslaught of winged abominations. Four were targeting Hisashi, five were targeting him and four for Gibbons. He'd been briefed on how to activate and fire these weapons. Two of his opponents split off in a pincer move to draw his fire a way from the remaining three in the middle. Lefty came in low while Righty came in high. Terry's left hand contorted into a small shield with a center spike of about six inches long. The high one swooped in for a quick strike with its tail aimed for his chest. Terry activated the Plasma Pistol and fired in one easy motion. The wings were digging in for air and distance now as it strained for speed to close the distance. The Plasma Bolt hit dead center of mass and the winged body exploded. Terry pivoted to his left in time to fire and hit the one coming in low. Those that remained scattered to three different locations in anticipation of an overload fire from the Plasma pistol at their group. They spun around the common center that was Anakowski then closed from three different directions. Terry dropped to the ground as they closed to within a few feet, tails extended to sting and inject. He knocked one out of the fight with his pointed buckler piercing its side, thrusting through its body as oily fluid gushed from its puncture wounds. As he continued through his motion the Plasma Pistol came up in auto fire mode spraying the remaining two camera encrusted drones in an arc of green flame. Both were sent to oblivion in flaming parts.

In the mean time, Hisashi whipped the energy shield about knocking his airborne assailants back each other. One fell near Megwa, who took advantage by whipping forward his tentacles ensnaring the downed creation and quickly removing its antenna. Hisashi did a return swing aimed at the flopping corpse hitting it squarely and ending its throes. The rest split up into three different directions, doing an about face much like what had been done earlier against Anakowski. They closed in and whirled the Energy Shield about himself edge on. Three cybernetic amalgams fell to the ground broken and ruined.

Gibbons knew that the rest of the party were engaging the metal hornets, but he had his own problems, and had to figure they'd hold out until he could join them.

He slashed at one out of instinct, realizing as soon as he committed that they'd snookered him. His target moved back while another that had been at his side moments before came buzzing at his back. Gibbons felt it on his back. Felt it's razor talons and fangs rending, but did not feel pain, only anger. He bucked and slammed his traps up against the bulkhead. The metal beast struggled for a second, and then it's self-preservation programming kicked in and it attempted to flee. Gibbons caught it by the tail and swung it into the third which had been coming in at his legs. The two tumbled to the floor in a mess of arthropod limbs and stuttering wings. Still active, but at least ones wings were crushed. It would take them a few seconds to disentangle.

He turned his attention back to the one that had baited him, and immediately flinched and ducked as a razory warhead spat from the cybersect's tail. it nicked his head, opening a gash that ran like a tap. The warhead skittered off course and embedded in the bulkhead. Gibbons wiped his eyes and went for the mean skeeter.

Seeing an opportunity present itself, Lieutenant Anakowski brought his acquired Covenant Plasma Pistol to bare upon the last flying weapon that was targeting Sergeant Gibbons for a kill. It tracked his movement and veered up at the last instant, but not in time to save its tail which burned and shriveled then dropped off seconds later putting an unforeseen burden upon the horror's ability to fly on a level path.

Hisashi Mori having successfully vanquished his opponents hurried to Sergeant Gibbons' aid. Holding the shield between the now wounded cybersect and its would be target. Finally the thing swerved away and zipped down the hallway from which it and its fellows had initially come from. The sound of its wings faded as it turned the corner, vanishing from the group's collective site. Hisashi jumped as he heard Anakowski's Plasma Pistol flash its discharge into the last tangle of Skeeters from Hell, that were in the process of disengaging from one another on the floor near Gibbons. The sickening sweet smell of burning alien flesh permeated the air around them. Anakowski gave what remained of the Skeeters a final shot in their optics encrusted heads to ensure no eavesdropping would occur from the entity responsible for creating these things.

"Well that was interesting," said Hisashi.

"Anybody been wounded?" asked Anakowski before turning towards Sergeant Gibbons.

Spore123 realized the remaining occupants were nothing like he'd come across before. They had remarkable reflexes and were able to work as a team with no outside help. Even the Covenant Engineer worked well with them. Spore123 concluded that they would have to be divided from one another, so as to make their elimination easier to manage. This would take time to implement. Spore123 ordered the Nanites to work to build a means to do just that and decided not to explore further in the facility until this was accomplished. The mass of nanites began spreading out and commenced with building to specification elaborate traps for the task of eliminating the strange occupants that their master wished under its control.

    Vtas 'Hatumee
    Somewhere...

    Alone...

    "Disgraceful..."

This single powerful word, for an eternity of time, was all that Vtas knew. Somewhere between the ebbs and flows of his subconscious mind it burned. A searing ethereal pain potentially rivaling being given the Mark of Shame. No, no it was worse. At least with the Mark of Shame he would be allowed to regain a small amount of his honor and die. This was worse, for this was a dishonor Vtas 'Hatumee would have to live with.

As his conscious mind slowly came back into the light it returned to him. The source of his shame. It was those damned Unggoy, and that piece of dishonorable slime Verm 'Valtumee. The Unggoy as always were sloppy, filthy, their work imitated themselves. They had failed to properly secure a high pressure valve near one of the umbilical cords where Vtas was to board the Holy Relic below. The valve ruptured, sending shrapnel flying, several of the vile creatures died instantly.

Then Verm, treacherous swine that he was, shoved Vtas into the path of the debris. The shrapnel struck Vtas' shield and bounced harmlessly off, but the velocity had knocked the Sangheili unconscious. Verm had long been seeking to surpass Vtas in the ranks, but had always been held back because he lacked honor and disciple. Now he had found a way to do so, but as Vtas opened his eyes to the distorted view of an automatic surgical suite he swore the treacherous upstart would die by his hands before such a day came.

As the world faded into view 'Hatumee automaticaly squinted his eyes to protect them from the offensive white glow of a standard surgical suite. The Sangheili was afloat amidst a myriad of healing fluids in the suits healing tank. Intended only for the Sangheili elite the system was unheard of on Kig-Yar or Jiralhanae ships and stations, the Prophets utilized different methods and systems, and the systems of the lower races were primitive at best. But to be in one, for a Sangheili of Vtas' rank and position, was a dishonor. As a Special Operations Officer such an event would at best see him lowered back to simply a Special Operations Sangheili Minor. None of that mattered though at the moment. What did matter was getting out of this tank, back into his armor, and to find Verm and string him by his entrails for his treachery.

There was a loud click and 'Hatumee felt the liquids surrounding him start to flow downward into their reserve tank to be sanitized for the next occupant. As the suspension fields that kept the Officer aloft shut down Vtas supported himself on his own legs. He was somewhat unstable at first, but quickly he regained his sense of balance and his legs felt as strong as ever. I must not have been out for long he thought as the tanks hatch unsealed and he stepped out into the cold sanitized air of the surgical suite.

An individual of lesser rank and status might have been ashamed at presenting himself in an unclothed state, as fabrics and even bandages of any type could disrupt the healing properties of the fluids, but not Vtas. Though it seemed he would have had no need for such sensations of modesty at any rate as the suite was barren of life. Though the system itself was automated, a Sangheili officer, even a disgraced one such as Vtas should have been greeted by a Major, or even Minor.

Vtas shifted his mandibles, as he let out a displeased sound likened to a human 'hmm'. His eyes scanned the suite, though barren of life it was not empty. A stowage locker sat in the corner, under normal circumstances his armor and weapons would be stored inside, though these seemed to be anything but normal. He clicked his mandibles together, the rough equivalent of a shrug as he stalked over to the locker. Placing his four-digit hand on the activation node he waited for the sound of the unit unlatching.

    It never happened.

Sighing he placed his hand on the node again and waited. Nothing. A third time and nothing. By this point the Elite had lost his

Having fully recovered from the ordeal of the cyberhornets, Lieutenant Anakowski turned his gaze from Gibbons towards Hisashi Mori and then to Megwa Noknuk.

"You know. I find it interesting how we just so happen to have all these nice augmentations and you just happen to be nearby when we awoke from our modification. I'm a little curious as to how you managed to be there in that room at that time," said Terry.

The holographics interpreted Terry's statement to the Engineer as his head weaved from side to side in see saw fashion.

"This one was cut off from his brethren of the Covenant, but managed to escape to the small room. The others were captured or escaped. Very few or none remained untouched by the other. The other was using those that operated on you earlier to create new servants after the other took control of them. The other was attempting to control you but failed when the plan of action was enacted to stop him. Then those that served him were felled, so that the Fleet Master could escape," spoke the synthetic voice of Megwa Noknuk's communications device.

"That doesn't explain why you were there in the first place," countered Anakowski.

Megwa's tentacles seemed to wriggle as he watched the interpretation, then flew over the keys to answer.

"I was responsible for the modifications initially made upon you all by order of the Prophet of Hope. It was hoped that you could serve the Covenant as spies for our cause by accessing knowledge of your species and any information concerning artifacts originating from the Gods. That and any information as to the whereabouts of our captured brethren from earlier battles following our initial arrival," answered Megwa's translator.

Anakowski took a deep breath then exhaled slowly.

"So another words you're the head surgeon of this little shop of horrors that got taken over by the infestation -as you call it-from the other-who in turn-took the idea a step further and made obedient soldiers of its own to use against your Covenant brethren?" asked the Lieutenant.

    Megwa keyed the response.

    "Yes," came the voice.

"Did they do any more modifications to us?" he asked.

"Yes. They added nanites to your physiology, The event happened before they could reprogram your loyalties also the nanites were stored internally within your bodies for concealment. They were spared the Pulse from the Fleet Master's Engineers because of this," he answered.

Anakowski turned pale as he eyed Gibbons. So did Hisashi Mori.

As a child, Gibbons had never cared much for Superhero stories. As a young man, he'd gone to see many of the superhero themed movies, but only because they were "event" films of the summers. He'd always considered Superheroes to be absurd. Now he had to consider the very real possibility that "Superheroes" of a sort, now exist.

Stranger still, that he might be one of them. Worse still, he'd always thought Wolverine was the lamest of superheroes. Just his luck that his augmentation gave him abilities that paralelled the hirsute mutant.

"I suppose that's why I've healed so quickly." He remarked. The gash in his forehead was barely a line now.

"Do I have any control over what's going on in me? The process was incomplete, but nothing seems to be terribly reliable." He considered. Still, deep aggression was brewing in him. Probably enhanced by his augmentation, but very real nonetheless.

"Let's go after them. We're in a position to do something, let's do it. Keep the initiative. Speed, Shock, Audacity, as our former enemies used to say."

How the heck did he remember that? That was years ago in a book he could barely remember. Then he realized that a lot of memories that had long been hazy and vague were now crystal clear and in High Definition.

"I'm serious. They've done this to us, let's make them regret it. Right now."

The following occurs about an hour prior to our Super Heroes awakening.

Location: Pacific Ocean West of Marianas Trench and Guam.

    In Game:

The Chinese Aircraft Carrier held station as the waves of the approaching storm attempted to move it off its position. The new transports-neither true aircraft nor sea going ships that had stopped for refueling-were a combination of both. The carrier was a Hand-Me-Down from the Russians. The Varyag was formerly a Kuznetsov class Multi-Role Aircraft Carrier. It was servicing four of the new Tupolov 400 special transports as they floated in the sea next to it. Now fueled, each of them began to wind up in preparation to depart as their turbines spun up to a shriek. Service crews cleared out of the way as the four craft departed on a nap-of-the-ocean heading to conserve fuel as much as possible. With their exhaust nozzles fore and aft vectored at roughly 45 degrees, it gave them the best lift characteristics. China had decided that though allied with the rest of the world against the Covenant, it was in China's best interest to acquire as much intelligence and hardware from the covenant as possible independently from the rest of the world. China's gold boom had given them a boost in buying power until recently unheard of. Inside the lead Tupolov, Colonel Chen Xu monitored the latest updates in the weather changes that had risen within the past half hour. There would be a head wind of 40 kilometers per hour with gusts of 55 to 65 kilometers per hour. By moving under cover of the approaching storm front they could reach their goal and consolidate it for China thus giving their homeland a big advantage in Covenant technology or at least it was hoped so. Intelligence had warned of indications that the Americans with Possible help from the Australians would be moving in with combined elements from both the 7th and 3rd fleets. Colonel Chen wasn't about to let that happen without China getting in on that action as well. The race was on to the victor went the spoils. He was going to get everything out of that Covenant Ship he could get for his nation. The Americans no longer held the threat they once had over his nation. Not any more. He had a battalion to hold it down until the People's Liberation Army, Navy arrived in all its strength. In the mean time his Marines would be more than capable of meeting out death to any who would dare oppose them. He checked his time. ETA 45 minutes. Soon very soon, he thought and smiled.

IC: As Covenant Engineer Megwa Noknuk, Para-Rescue Specialist, Lieutenant Terry Anakowski and Contract Scientist/Engineer for the US Department of Defense/War, Hisashi Mori.

Lieutenant Anakowski listened intently to Sargent Gibbons and made a decision. "Alright. If you're for this we'll have to make it a unanimous decision if we go for this we go all the way and we go for keeps. I can speak for myself in that I'm in. But I won't go unless we're all committed. Hisashi Mori. Sir what is your decision on this?" asked the Lieutenant.

Mori lowered his head and considered his situation. "We've all been changed to some degree or another. It is not right what was done to us. Honor demands that this be set right," he said with conviction.

They all turned towards the Alien engineer. Hisashi spoke to Megwa Noknuk.

"What do you decide at this time builder? Will you help us to attack this infestation that has driven off your brethren?" he asked.

Megwa looked at them in return after the translation was complete, his head see-sawing while his tendrils worked the keys of his translator.

"This one cannot fight but this one will assist with help, with direction to resources, weapons, power sources and ammunition. Will this be sufficient?" he asked.

Terry smiled then answered. "It will be sufficient as long as you cooperate and do as you offered," he said.

Hisashi spoke next. "The trail is fresh and we must be near where they came from. Perhaps along the way we can find these needed supplies our ally spoke of. Let's roll."

Anakowski grimmest and almost groaned at the unintended pun. They gathered up their supplies and weapons, then moved out down the hallway towards the corner from which they'd last seen the flying abomination exit from sight.

IC: As LPC Colonel Chen Xu with accompanying Chinese, Peoples Liberation Army, Marines Battalian.

Four Tupolov 400s approached the huge alien installation. Dark windswept ocean waves rolled by the outer hull as they lined themselves into a loose formation and followed Chen's transport along the hull in search of an opening to capitalize on. Within moments they came upon a very large entrance to the interior of the facility more than large enough for them to enter two abreast had they chosen to. Lightning flashed giving an eerie glimpse of the interior that lay ahead. The four of them line up and filed in one at a time. Ahead lay a gradual ramp that would serve as a point of entrance into the alien facility. Troops disembarked, setting up a fast defensive perimeter. More troops with equipment exited all four of the Tupolov 400s. The Chinese had landed. A groaning sound was heard from behind, from where they had first entered the facility moments before. To Chen's surprise a gate was rising out of the water and merging with the outer wall closing off their only exit from this place. Intelligence had assured him that there was no activity from this facility since it was vacated by the aliens earlier. Could they have been wrong about a total evacuation? Chen ordered his Marines to hold position. Minutes passed without incident. Welcome to my parlor, said the spider to the fly. he thought to himself in derision. An American saying, but true perhaps none the less. Maybe this was an automatic response programmed into the facility. If so they might be able to find the control center and set about reopening the gate later when they had need of it. In the mean time the waters had subsided of their wave motion. Chen gave the order to continue the unloading of their remaining equipment and troops. They couldn't go back. So why did they come here in the first place? An edge over everyone else. Only the bold got to win in this war. He'd learned that long ago from the very start of it. The Chinese Marines ascended the ramp throwing lit magnesium flares ahead of them as they switched on their lamps for a better view within the interior. Further in they observed many different slots for Covenant

    Vtas 'Hatumee
    Covenant Sea Facility

The facility was quiet, the sort of eerie silence one might expect from a family grave site at night, not a location like this. This facility was a Class C excavation platform, a mobile refinery originally intended to be used in conjunction with Scarabs, before their war refit, to strip sections of worlds of resources and to refine them into materials for use by the Covenant. It was supposed to be noisy, loud, full of lower beings doing menial labor and jobs, but there was only silence, and darkness. The silence was of little concern it was the darkness that was a hinderence, forcing him to rely on his armors onboard light amplification systems to compensate.

Not that there was much to view anyway. The bodies that had initially littered the halls had grown less and less common till there were no more, but signs of their being still remained. Unsettling signs. Pools of blood, various mingling colours of a number of species still adorned the halls where bodies fell, and then there were marks that they were moved, dragged away. It was this macabre trail that Vtas was now following, that he had been for quite some time, and he came upon nothing, until now.

The door at one point had led to a service locker, a room that held tools, equipment, even spare methane tanks for the Unggoy. Now however it was an armory, converted to hold various arms and equipment should the facility come under attack. Given his lack of armament one might have expected Vtas to be relived by the discovery of an armory. He wasn't. The door was the end point of one of the trails of blood, an the portal itself was coated in a thick layer of ichor. Vtas however was a Sangheili and such trivial things would not deter him.

Waving his hand over the doors access panel it slowly hissed open, the room on the other side was dark, nearly devoid of light, but not life it seemed. From its size and shape it was obvious that the creature was a Jiralhanae, but as the rooms lights flickered on it became clear something was very wrong about it. First there was the smell, a scent of death so strong that it forced his suits air filter systems to activate assuming it was an offensive material. Beyond that there was its physical appearance. Its dark fur was matted and soaked with blood, its own it seemed. It had grievous wounds, a large gaping one in its chest exposed its ribs, and something else.

There was the clear sign of something mechanical moving behind its ribs as it took notice of Vtas and rose up from the Kig-yar corpse it appeared to be pulling appart. Rising to its full height it easily towered over Vtas as it made a noise that sounded like a an attempt at a roar. In response Vtas raised the plasma rifle he'd scavenged and opened fire with a short burst. The plasma struck the Brute's skin and burned through like it was not there but the beast did not falter. With its massive arms it swung and knocked the rifle from the Sangheili's hands, and though his shields took the brunt of the blow the force still sent him into the opposite wall of the corridor.

Pulling himself off the ground Vtas unleashed a roar of anger as the Jiralhanae charged a fist raised. Ducking beneath the blow Vtas delivered a hard jab to the creatures chest followed by a second from his other hand, this one aided by an active energy dagger. The beast did not flinch however as it raised both its fists up for a devistating downward blow. It was however still as slow as a normal Jiralhanae and Vtas managed to side step the attack and with a quick burst from his suits flight pod spun around behind the creature and stabbed it straight through the spine.

Its spinal cord seperated the creature's legs faltered and it fell down to its knees. Vtas raised his right arm he bellowed in anger as he slashed through the brain pan of the behemoth the top of its head sliding off and its body finally slumping and collapsing to the floor. Standing over the body of his foe at a loss for breath he resisted the urge to roar in victory, such shows were not necessa

"Well, you didn't dress us up for nothing. Let's stop standing around and do something." Gibbons said, and headed off after the Cybersects at a walking pace.

He considered that he didn't have rank, and realized he didn't care. These thoughts and motivations weren't at all consistent with his nature. Though he was a soldier, he was not a brash, aggressive, and dour type. He carried around a copy of the Iliad in his BDU's. He was not at home with the kind of over-masculine nonsense he was doing now.

Something else to get used to. If he survived.

He didn't even turn, but could hear the others following him, happy to let him take point. The corridor proceeded for some yards, but then terminated in a hole of absolute black. After a moment, he realized it wasn't the end of the corridor, but that the lighting fixtures up ahead were non-functional. He hung back a moment, gazing into the black. Odd smells swirled in his sinuses. He couldn't quite put his finger on it.

"Something up ahead. Don't know what, but being a card-carrying pessimist, I'd say it's bad."

A faint clicking --metal on metal-- could be heard in the black beyond, and it was approaching.

From out of the gloom crawled a what appeared to be creature of flesh and metal-like material. It had been wounded from what could only judged as horrendous trauma to just about every part of its body. It was one of the aliens like those that had taken them here to this installation. It didn't look like it should be able to live let alone move about, even though it was dragging one leg on a mangled foot. The creature scanned from side to side with its glazed eyes as though trying to discern its environment by heat or perhaps motion sensitivity. It had other assorted sensors mounted on it but these appeared to have been compromised from weapons fire in order to affect its ability to observe any opponents. It carried what appeared to be common to its species a red colored Plasma Rifle. As it dragged the weapon upon the metal floor with its right hand, the creature's left hand drummed a rhythm upon its left leg with metal enhanced nails that looked like they could rip a human's lungs out with very little effort. Even the creature's left leg was coated somehow with the same metal like material. It had been augmented too but in a more crude fashion. Megwa was frantically doing something with his translator as though trying to alter its use or purpose. Lights began to flicker on along the ceiling towards and past the approaching ugly Brute. A plasma conduit between both parties began spewing plasma jets. The creature took notice and approached it, perhaps more out of its noise and light emissions than anything else. The right arm came up with the red Plasma Rifle. For the first time Anakowski noticed a fiber optic cable exiting from the side of the plasma rifle's upper body where its sensors were housed. The cable wound upwards into the back of the creature's head where lay the vision center of its brain. It was surgically united with the weapon's sensors in order to better acquire its target. It was also busy with preoccupation centered on the plasma conduit thanks to Megwa Noknuk. Terry brought up his plasma pistol.

"Sargent would you be so kind as to step to your left so I can brain pan him, please?" he requested in a whisper.

The First Company (Company Tiger) of the committed Chinese Liberation Army, Marines wound their way gradually upwards as they explored further along the rising path to the next level. Ahead they spotted a sudden drop off in the numbers of bodies on the floor. This was in addition to trails of blood and/or other bodily fluids streaking along the floor off into the gloom beyond the reach of their flash lights. Those with tactical night vision goggles had little improvement. Ahead there was the sound of numerous heavy as well as light foot falls, as though a large number of individuals were in the process of charging towards their position. The Chinese Marines dropped prone to a firing position for the first skirmish line while simultaneously a second line formed a few feet behind them with grenades at the ready. The company commander, Major Xai Wu gave the signal and the second line grenadiers hurled their grenades towards the direction of the approaching stampede. At the very edge of the gloom they appeared. What seemed like hundreds of Grunts with accompanying Jackals, Hunters and a recently contacted species that looked like a cross between a North American Grizzly Bear and an over sized Ape, came charging down and around the bend. The leading rows of Grunts were consumed by the exploding grenades. Next a volley from the Chinese Marine's grenade launchers was loosed into the approaching morass of violence, hell bend on their destruction. More Grunt's body parts went flying backwards into their fellows joined by Jackals now. The alien Eels with their heavily armored plating brought their huge pla
