Canada Hello from Blighty!

Does exactly what it says on the tin.

So yeah, a big 'Hello!' to all you people on this side of the Atlantic! I'm just having a look round the rest of the FanForce Forums and thought I'd stick my head in here. How are things anyway?

The...Sun, eh? Well, there are rumors about that, but I'm sure it's just a myth used by Spanish property salesmen to lure unsuspecting Brits into their offices! Everyone knows that the light is just streetlights reflecting off of the clouds!

You all seem like a friendly enough bunch anyways!

 

we have your spelling, which is to say we spell it 'colour' and 'favour', etc, etc... makes it a pain when you're doing mark-up codes on boards.

I'm tempted to stuff it and start spelling it the american way.

I can't help it... I don't know how many times I have to go back and edit!

 

Canadian spelling is a bit of a unique beast. In some ways we are very British, colour, honour, armour, centre, authorise, etc etc.

But in other ways we follow the US: tire and curb instead of tyre and kerb; also tend to us names like truck instead of lorry, elevator instead of lift.

And of course, Canadian English is unique enough to warrant its own proper dictionary by Oxford!

 

I guess centre and metre make sense with the French influence. I always liked that about Canada, with the British/American/French mix, best of both worlds it seemed to me. Along with the fact it seems to be law for everybody to be as sound and as friendly as possible!

 

Yes, it would need its own dictionary as I doubt that any other dictionary has the phrase 'double-double' in it.

 

Double-double? I'm sure I heard an Ewok say that in ROTJ. Seriously, what does it mean?!

 

2 sugars, 2 cream/milk in coffee. We have a very popular coffee franchise here called Tim Hortons. It's not nearly as fancy as Starbucks and nearly as expensive.

 

i didn't realize double double was a canadian thing, then again i don't drink coffee

 

it's a trip-trip in my circle.

 

Trust me, when you see the prices for Starbucks from the UK any coffee in Canada is cheap. I think a medium coffee works out at about £3.20, that is about $6.40.
