So my mom and dad's computer got a huge virus. It wiped away all their information on the computer. All the files, and etc.

So a little bit ago, I went on and checked on my profile on the computer. All the videos I've taken, all the pictures, all the writings, everything I had on there is gone. All of it. :( Fortunately some of my earlier videos are still on my camera, and some of the videos are on dvd already, but everything else, including stuff from my original camera, may be completely gone.

Mind you, it is a virus, so hopefully we maybe can get all of it back. But geesh...:(

Maybe you should have your own computer to search for porn with so this does not happen to your mom and dad.

    1) If you have your own computer, why is your stuff stored on your parents' computer?
    2) You should always back up your files.

Let this be a lesson that you should put all of your videos in youtube. And share them.

I used the original computer in order to make videos, and etc. It had an extra hard drive installed just to hold all the camera stuff. This computer I'm on, I wasn't sure if I could be able to do my camera stuff as it took a lot of space, but after tinkering with it today, I tested to see how it would be able to hold videos. That's why I made this more than anything. Mostly a quick thing to do, and I can say this computer will do fine just for it.

But on the main computer, I had all the old videos, skits, and stuff that I did, that were never put on youtube like from high school and etc, and still had some of the old youtube stuff as well. But not even the icons are on the desktop.

My mom saved her story onto a flashdrive, so at least she has that, but all the rest of it...

edit: not sure how to backup myself..not sure if my parents ever did but I don't know.

If it was anything bigger than a medium pizza you're in big trouble. There's not much you can do about viruses bigger than that.

And it had never occurred to you to have an antivirus installed and do regular scans?

Sometimes that happens. Even the best anti - virus software isn't foolproof.

Yes, it brought back fond memories of when only nerds could use computers, before they became 'user-friendly.'

Yes, it seem that your protection can fail you. The best method for not catching a virus is simply to abstain. Its the only foolproof method. Abstinence only.

Meh, it's the small microscopic viruses that are a problem. The big ones can be taken care of with a baseball bat.
