    "a Finnish Track?"
Our dvd's won't be dubbed, if that's what you mean. All we get is subtitles, which is good :)
    Waiting, waiting, waiting...

No, it came from one of the main channels of Finland called Yle on year '96. In the same translation Greedo was Skriidu etc.

Maybe YLE had bought a cheap bootleg from Estonia?

Does the Finnish Subtitles Account For Jar Jar's "Funny" Way Of Speaking? With Misspellings and the Like?

Yes, the 'funny' crap is translated to the subtitles as well. It sounds like an idiot, as it's supposed to. [face_plain]

    If I remember correctly, Ackbar's name wasn't .. modified.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a version where Ackbar was called Äkbar. Argh!
    :p

It was spelt 'Akbar' in a ROTJ VHS I saw once, but not anywhere else. Yes, it's mostly Ackbar.

Jar-Jar's dialogue in the finnish subtitles is a mess.. it's basically a mix of many finnish dialects and some completely made up stuff. At least you can be sure no-one really speaks like that.

Somehow one Donald Duck comic by Don Rosa came to my mind. Space aliens spoke Savo (a dialect spoken in Eastern Finland) in that one. It was really hilarious...

    What About Toys and Merchandising? Is a B-Wing a B-Wing? A Skiff a Skiff?

How Do You Say "Star Destroyer" in Finnish?

The new toys don't come to Finland these days, like the OT Collection. Last wave was the E2 wave in Saga line. E3 toys should come though. B-Wing? Yeah right, like I could buy one of those from Finland. :D B-Wing is B-Wing but if it's in a book or movie, wing is translated to "siipi", yes, it sounds stupid.

Star Destroyer sounds also much more cooler in English, but again in a book or movie it's "tähtituhooja" (star = tähti, destroyer = tuhooja).

This thread seems pretty quiet but I´ll just write anyhow...

Any of our finnish members remember the funny typo there used to be in the subtitles for ESB`s opening crawl..? It said "Kuuma jääplanetta" (hot iceplanet) I was almost expecting it to show up in the translated ESB DVD crawl...

Though its not that uncommon to have typos in the subtitles, but Jabba as Tsäbä was one of those moments where the translators REALL exceeded themselves.

Jar Jar´s subs were somewhat idiotic, but who remembers the subs for Watto? They were in some Finnish dialect (Luuletsie olevas joku Jedi vai?) which I think really worked.
