Discussion John Williams Wants to Score Sequel Trilogy

“We’re about to play Star Wars [audience interrupts with cheers] and each time we play it, I’m reminded of the first time we played it decades ago. Neither I, nor George, nor anyone else involved thought this would go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I’d have to revisit the themes…and years later another trilogy. Now we’re hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016…so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George…[more cheers].”

I can see him doing 7, but I'm afraid he'll probably be dead by the time the others see the light of day.

 

This is so awesome!!!!!!!!!!! If John Williams wants to do it then he IS going to do it! I can't see J.J. Abrams denying John Williams the right to compose music for the new Star Wars trilogy. I also can't imagine John Williams will have any scheduling conflicts because he's only really done the soundtrack to a just few movies recently.

 

He better make the scre as long as he wants to, man is a musical genius !

 

It's great that he wants to come back... but honestly with the whole theme of the ST being handing off the torch, I expect him to be working with someone that will takeover for other STAR WARS films... sort of taking an apprentice as lets face it Williams is 'semi-retired'.

 

The guy is a genius. I put together a playlist a few weeks back of symphonic movie themes. Half of them were scored by him.

 

Wonderful news. I'm not going to worry about John dying until he starts to. Working, creating, and staying engaged in your career increases your longevity, and I'm sure Mr. Williams will be prepared for what is to come.

 

Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.

 

"Age is never a measure of ability." He's up for an Oscar this year, IIRC. If he wants in, he'll be in.

Great news that John wants to return I hope he is able to score all three of the sequels- that would be some achievement.

 

I do want to see Williams score at least one more Star Wars film if not the whole trilogy. Have Giacchino as a backup?!

 

I say instead we'll be seeing JJ denying he's involved even though we'll all know he is. JJ's just secretive like that.

 

This is a no brainer. John Williams was always going to do 7. There is none other.

Williams is SW just as much as GL.I'm sure there will be SW movies without Williams but while he's around and wants to score it,he better get first dibs.

If he gets on board with the project than that is just as good to me as any of the original cast rejoining.

 

As much as I'm super excited, apparently Abrams has always used the same guy for scoring his films. We all know how much Abrams has to do things his way so there is a possibility that Abrams may not want Williams.

Also did anyone pick up that Williams still thinks Lucas is directing these movies.
