I'm going to make a Mara Jade "light side" costume for Celebration V, but I have a question about the shoulder pads/or armor. Here's some pictures:

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/dangling_angel/mara-chronicles.jpg

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/dangling_angel/mara-visions.jpg

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/dangling_angel/mara2f.jpg

In the first picture, the two shoulder pads are definitely shaped different, but it is unclear (atleast to me) if this is the case in the other two pictures. Also, in the first and third picture, it looks like the satchel strap is connected to the right shoulder pad. I kinda doubt it is, but I want to make sure. So I need some opinions on this. Are there two shoulder armor that are shaped different, or is there only one and the other is part of the satchel? Sorry if this sounds confusing, but I just want my costume as accurate as possible!

I'd definitely say the shoulder pads are different. The one on the left shoulder has a bill attached to it (can't think of a better word) while the right side is just the ribbed one.

As for the belt, I'm sure theoretically the pouch isn't supposed to connect for easy removal, but in the case of costume, you probably could get away with it to make sure it doesn't slide around on your shoulder. :)

Thanks so much! I wanted to make sure before I started anything =)

My take on those images is that the left (Mara's left) shoulder is a pad, like a leather pauldron, while the right (Mara's right) should pad looks like it is actually part of the satchel's strap - kind of like extra padding on a real world rifle's sling, if that makes any sense.

For the satchet, if you are wanting to hook it to the belt to keep it from slipping, you could always employ the money clip method on the back. No one would be the wiser.

I think this would be a great costume. I am planning on going to CV, myself, so I will look forward to seeing this Mara Jade running around. Just be on the look out for the Mandalorian Mercs, I will be among them, in desert themed armor with a dual holster rig! [face_peace]

    Good luck!

Thank you both for your input. I found two more reference images for this costume that are WAY better. Silly me forgot about the Japanese covers for the Thrawn Duology [face_blush] So for anyone who might need them:

I'll be sure to keep a lookout for the Mandalorians at CV =)

Those definitely look like shoulder pads, of some sort. I think they would look really good as leather based. It doesn't look like it would be too hard to make, either. Just a matter of drawing out the pattern, is all.

Good luck on this costume. I look forward to seeing you at CV!

Yes I think I have the shoulder pads figured out now. If you take a close look at the second picture (VOTF cover), you'll notice that the strap to her satchel is over the armor, not under it. Mystery solved, lol =)

My next task is to figure out what the heck she is wearing around her feet. At first glance they look like boots, but if you take a close look, it actually seems like she's wearing shoes and shin guards, and she has them wrapped up together. I've showed a few people and they think they're boots, but I swear they're not! I can see where the shoe ends and the fabric from her leggings are bunched up around the ankle. Does anyone else see this or is it just me?

I think I can see what you're seeing, but that highlight that looks like leggings bunching at her ankle is probably actually just a part of the light outline that is around her entire figure. I would say they're boots, with strips of fabric wrapped around them.

I agree that they're boots with fabric strips. It's really similar to Tuskens and Farmboy Luke.
