Padme Amidala Padme's Naboo Nightgown

Wow!! Incredible job there! Alot of hard work, and it payed off! You look so beautiful in it! This is definitely one of my favourite PAdme costumes, it's simple but beautiful!

 

starfire, I honestly don't know how long the smocking took me. I finished about 1/3 of it driving from NYC to Illinois, so that was about 12 hours. With the time it took to mark the dots (that was a royal pain) and fix spacing mistakes...maybe 50 hours?

I do know that once I figured out how best to do the embroidery, it took just under an hour for each snowflake - my best time was about eight minutes for each stem/petal color.

Also, I have to thank Kris for the last-minute assistance. Curse my procrastination, I wasn't fast enough!

 

What are friends for I stayed up late at night with you in the Hotel and then got up before you to finish pad stitching Friday morning lol .

Lovely job! You look great! And the smocking, too...wow!

Sure did. It took me what felt like forever, too. Now I'm working on the beaded balls for the back. That'll take me awhile to finish, but it's getting there. One of these days I'll have it fully finished.

For the beaded balls, I took the easy route - beaded wire wrapped around styrofoam balls. But I'd like to find a better way to keep them stuck on. Duct tape goes only so far. If I redo the tassel, I think I'll try superglue - apply it to one little section of wire at a time, wrap it, let it set, apply to next section.

 

JadeSolo, I LOVED this gown and robe. You have to come visit us at AOI and share your wonderful work I also loved the bathrobe Jedi on Monday.

I am seeing if there is any interest in having this trim custom made just like with the Dressing Gown. You would only need about 1.5 - 2 yards and for a custom order, we would need to order a minimum of 4-5 yards. The only downside is it would be $50/yard Anyone interested?

So I have my 30 yards of blue/gold shot silk velvet and just ordered some custom trim from Suomynona(I will have some left over, send me a message for details). I took a 16"x18" piece of gray silk velvet(gonna use for Packing Gown vest) and marked out a 1.75 inch grid and then smocking it using the lattice, Canadian or North American smocking technique described here: http://sewnews.com/resources/qa/qa0706a/

It just looks so nice but it did shrink the size to 9"x10" so it does eat the fabric. I have been conversing with Kasey who has made this costume(although not the smocking part)

Also, got some nice satin on sale at Hancock's and a sheer white reminant for the nightgown as well as this pattern: http://www.folkwear.com/219.html They are both 60" wide so that is nice. Gonna cut it on the bias for max flow and then start the embroidery which I already have the floss for. My plan is to construct the nightgown with the satin and then attached the sheer on the bust and leave it hang so it is like the real one(2 layers, bottom hems not attached). as you can see the lining a bit since the one corner is turned back.

I did finish this costume for NYCC this past weekend. I still need to line the robe and do the embroidery on the gown but here are a few pics. The Anakin is my hubby(the ultimate prop!!) but he was a good sport.

Thanks. I actually finally got an embroidery machine(thanks Cressie, yup it is the Janome 350e) and put the symbols on each bust and the 5 down the center. Here are some pics:

Special thanks to Kasey b/c I used her designs scheme with the 3 different versions of the symbols except for 2 things. Kasey did not decipher the symbols on the bust so I examined and used version 3 reversed and rotated on the right bust and version 1 rotated on the left bust. Also, the center symbol between the bust is slightly different than the 3 versions and actually has some colors mixed and so I did compose that one to resemble the actual one(I called it version 0). Now I need to finish the beaded balls(thanks Kasey for the instructions) and put 5 symbols on the right and left of the center row and put some on the back. I also used Robinson Anton Rayon Twister Tweed thread to recreate the rope effect of the original embroidery. I love my embroidery machine
