The Dreamcast has a pretty good selection of RPGs, but it's going to get better. I know the one I'm looking forward to the most is Eternal Arcadia. Here's a link to previews of all the games coming out for the DC. I've already posted it before, but I thought aguywithabiggun would like to see them. Here's the link: http://dreamcast.ign.com/news/10692.html http://dreamcast.ign.com/news/10692.html

This time Daily Radar has gone too far. They wrote an editorial titled "How To Beat the PS2". They should have called it "We Love the PS2 and Hate the Dolphin!" Here's just a little bit of what they wrote about the Dolphin:

What Nintendo Must do to beat Sony: Pray. It would take a miracle for the Dolphin to gain the top slot in market share. However, Nintendo could thrive as a number two or number three console, if the company can get the Dolphin into stores (along with a Mario title and a Rare game) before it's too late.

Is it just me or is this comment VERY biased? Nintendo could thrive as a number 2 or number 3? I think they need to get their act together. I think it's stupid that they've already counted Nintendo out of the race. Nintendo makes original and creative games. They also have great fans.

Weaknesses: Nintendo has made life so difficult for third party developers that many aren't even planning Dolphin games.

Well, considering the fact that Nintendo hasn't even said what games for sure they are making, and tons of other big name companies haven't revealed a thing, I'm guessing that even if the third party developers were making games, they would keep their mouths shut.

Plus, some publishers have leaked rumors that Nintendo is still planning to charge the same ridiculous fees that made cartridge-based games such a risk, even though the Dolphin uses a DVD drive.

Notice the word they used was RUMORS. One thing I've learned is to never believe rumors.

However, here's what they said about the PS2:

Strengths: Power, backward compatibility, the strongest developer support and 70 million PlayStation owners.

I'm surprised they listed power as a strength, considering the fact that both the Dolphin and the X-box are more powerful. 70 million Playstation owners? That's terrific, except that they're Playstation owners and not PS2 owners. How is this a strength? Just because their previous system did well doesn't mean their next one will. Look at Sega. The Genisis sold like crazy, but the Saturn did horribly. I know many people are happy with their Playstations and will get a PS2, but if word get's out that the games suck and the other systems are better, I don't think most people will get it. I think it's sad that they predict PS2's success on the success of the Playstation. Another thing is that 70 million people couldn't care less about the backward compatibility. Sure they could sell their Playstations to help pay for the PS2, but how much is $30 going to help? Nobody is going to want to buy it.

What Sony must do to stay on top: Sony must continue to maintain third-party developer relations and must help developers tap the power of the PS2. Sony must also quickly implement an online strategy, so the competition won't corner that market.

I think it will be difficult to keep the third party developers since the DC and the Dolphin are easier to developer for and the X-box is more powerful. The PS2 is just in the middle, not the easiest to develop for and not the most powerful, which means they're going to have to depend on loyalty and their name.

I think this just shows why I can't stand Daily Radar. If you want to read the whole editorial, here's a link: http://www.dailyradar.com/features/game_feature_page_523_1.html http://www.dailyradar.com/features/game_feature_page_523_1.html

I'm what you might call a "hardcore gamer" and I've been around and It really doesn't matter how great the PSX2 is, DVD or not.. what will decide the fate of the Playstation 2 will be it's games. I only hope the fun factor of those games are as good as the graphics! If they are.. then PSX2 will be one of the best consoles ever made (providing LucasArts gets some cool SW games out for it.)

Oh.. and don't feel sorry for Nintendo, they aren't going anywhere. They never have in the past have they?

epik von liechtenstein> You're right, but can you prove it?

    aguywithabiggun> You're right too, at least I think so, I love RPG's.

Spartacus151> Good points. Daily Radar suck. They're supposed to be impartial, methinks. There's loads of great RPG's on their way for PS2 too, you know.

BobaNet> The thing is that the games can be much bigger and on fewer CD's since it's DVD. Kessen is the first game to use this advantage. That's one of the reasons DC will loose. Of course there's still Dolphin and X-Box but we've still got another 1.5 years before that fight begins.

EDIT: I think Dead or Alive is on DVD too. Look at the back of http://headline.gamespot.com/news/00_03/22_vg_pscovers/screens.html?2this cover .

Someone mentioned X-Box, but I read that it's about 22 months away from release. Can anyone confirm this? Anyway, I'll stick with the PS-1 and DC for now (along with the PC for the good strategy stuff) but I think I'm pretty much sold on the PS2 when it launches. If software support is anything to go by, just look at the PS-1 and extrapolate...

I've been thinking and have come up with a few things that would have to happen for me to buy a PS2. Here's the list:
    <OL TYPE=1>
<LI> The World Is Not Enough will have to use the multitap. I can't imagen playing it against just 1 of my friends.
<LI> Star Wars Online will have to be a PS2 game. That would be awesome. However, even if one of the Star Wars games in development isn't Star Wars Online, they will have to be top notch. It seems like most of the games made by LucasArts lately haven't been that good from what I've heard.
<LI> They will have to make better games. Sure, TTT may look better then the PSX games, but that's not good enough. I want the games to blow me away and leave me stunned with my mouth hanging open. I know they'll make better games eventually but I would like them to do it quickly.
<LI> They're going to have to stop relying on sequels and be a little more creative. I understand that it's smart to launch a new system with familiar games to get people to buy it, but I hope they expand from there and not just release more sequels.
<LI> The games will have to be cheap. I don't want to have to spend $60 on a game like I did with the N64.
<LI> I've heard this but I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that the PS3 will play PSX and PS2 games. If so, this will be cool. Then again, the Nintendo might do the same with Dolphin and their next system.
    </OL>

These are just a few things that would make me run out and buy the PS2.

I'm still pissed off at Sony 'cause they didn't make 4 controller ports too.

LA has dissapointed me a lot after they started making TPM games but I hope they won't do it again. I'm gonna buy FC tomorrow so...

Apparently TTT was a big dissapointment - it's great graphics and all but it was a total lack of gameplay they say.

There are lots of great games that are not sequels coming for PS2. Here's a few links:

    Onimusha: http://videogames.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/onimusha/index.html http://videogames.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/onimusha/index.html
    Kessen: http://videogames.gamespot.com/ps2/strsim/kessen/index.html http://videogames.gamespot.com/ps2/strsim/kessen/index.html

Ya, I'm concerned about the price too but the PSX games didn't cost $60 when they were new so why should the PS2 one's?

    I can't imagine they're planning PS3 already.

I wanna give a lot of credit to Sega for the VMU card. It's genious! You don't need no Game Boy or Game Gear or whatever if you've got the memory card (it is a memory card, is it?) for DC. Congrats Sega, you've made something good.

    From http://dreamcast.ign.com: http://dreamcast.ign.com:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Geneva,Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Here's the story. Sega of America is changing its business strategy in a massive way. As alluded to in the invitation, Sega will be forming a new company called Sega.com, Inc., with a fella' by the name of Brad Huang named president and Chief and Chief Executive Officer. Forget Chu Chu Rocket - real console internet gaming will take off later this fall, and will arrive through this new company.

Sega.com is meant to be referred to as an Internet Service Provider (ISP) rather than a standard gaming company. This fall, the company will be starting up an internet service called "SegaNet," a service that's similar in style to America Online. The website sega.com will be re-launched as a portal site for the service, and will feature all the functionality of AOL, including chat, instant messenging, and message boards. Sega is going after the same user base that AOL targets.

Here's where Sega's video game heritage comes into play. The company will be using a strategy similar to what major ISPs use in the PC industry in order to coax people to sign on with their service. If you sign up for two years of SegeNet service, you'll receive a free Dreamcast system and keyboard. Are you one of the nearly two million people who already own the system? No problem . . . Sega.com's offer is retroactive. Current DC owners who subscribe for the service will receive a brand spankin' new Dreamcast keyboard. Oh, and you'll also get a little check from Sega worth $200 - the price of your Dreamcast purchase.

The service isn't just meant for Dreamcast owners, though. PC owners can also sign up and use the service on their computers, in place of their current ISP, or alongside it. The same rules apply: subscribe to the service, and receive a free Dreamcast, or if you already have a Dreamcast, receive a check from Sega for $200. How can you possibly pass up on the offer? At least, that's what Sega wants you to feel.

In fact, it's possible that all online access through SegaNet will be faster than what your current ISP offers, due to the service's own private virtual network, for which Sega is working with a company called US Web in order to build. Yes, if Sega is to be believed, by signing up for SegaNet, you may be able to access the 'net faster than ever, even without broadband. Broadband connections are on the drawing boards, though, with an ethernet adapter set for release simultaneously with the network's launch. Sega is making preparations for broadband, and is investigating all avenues, including DSL modems, to make sure all high-speed connection users are taken care of as part of the service.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Geneva,Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Currently expected this year are twelve online-ready games, including Quake III, NBA2K1, NFL2K1, and Phantasy Star Online. The IGNDC rumor mill also has on file Half Life, Ready 2 Rumble 2, and Dreamcast Bomberman, and we've also heard that Chu Chu will somehow become a lag-free experience when going through the network. When the SegaNet network launches, you can expect four games, with the rest set to trickle out throughout the remainder of the year.

It sure looks like the Dreamcast is ready for the PS2. I know now that I'll definately get a Dreamcast. Just look at those online games, Quake III, Half Life, NFL2K1, NBA2K1, and Ready 2 Rumble 2. Plus there's some awesome games that won't be online. I'm not gonna say Sega ain't making a good offer with the DC stuff but there's got to be something to it, there always is. You can impossibly get a DC worth $200 and a keyboard worth what, $20?, for free just for signing up. They've got to have something up their sleeve they ain't telling us. Maybe they want the stock to increase? Well, I shouldn't blame Sega for lying 'cos if they ain't it's a damn good offer which I can't refuse (if they ship to Sweden that is).

And that Kirby 64 stuff is just crap. It's not like PS2 hasn't sold well - there was a new shipment last weekend or something which did just as well as the original release, they sold all the new units within hours.
Besides, it's not strange that RRV, GP and Kessen only sold 180 000 units last week - they've been out for almost a month! Most people bought them when the PS2 was 'new'. Therefore won't Kirby pass RRV's sales figure in 20 minutes, everyone who wants already has it which means it won't sell as well further on.

I think with the Sega Net deal Sega looked at what it was up against and realized they needed to do something big. I don't fully understand how it works, but I know that if 6 million people have Dreamcasts then they'll be making tons off of software.

I hope that you all know that so far the PS2 showings have been PANTS!!!!

1st of all, when they showed Tekken Tag it had extremly jagged edges, and Soul Caliber and Dead or Alive 2 on the dreamcast looked a lot better.

2nd of all it can't handle some things. For instance, the latest Street Fighter game suffered from extreme slow-down and lag. This was on the Full Version for sale. As anyone that has played SF will know that slow down is not acceptable as the game is so fast.

    I rest my case.
