While roaming around Gen Con on Friday night...trying desperately to "look cool" in my Jedi costume...I ran into George Starkey (Commander Jorg Sacul)...and he said that "Saving Star Wars" was playing in the room with the fan films. I had just missed one showing...and vowed that I would try to get in to see it before the weekend was done.

Fan Film...sometimes that word makes my teeth ache. There are many out there who start a fan film with just an idea that they want to make a kick-ass lightsaber battle...then form a VERY thin story to lead to said "kick ass" lightsaber battle. Sorry guys...if you think you can make a better lightsaber battle than Industrial Light and Magic...well..you are sadly mistaken...you may make it longer...but not better...

    But I digress....
On Sunday morning I hauled my sorry butt back to the Indianapolis Convention Center...and found my way to the room where "Saving Staw Wars" was playing...I was all set to write it off as another fan film..but ....boy...was I mistaken...

    This film is GOOD...
and if you are a Star Wars fan...
    this film is VERY good....
...yes...there is a lightsaber battle...but it is one that will fill your heart.....that is...asuming you have one.....
I laughed soooooo hard in some places....and found myself with tears in my eyes in others...(yeah...yeah...feel free to give me some crap about that)...
This is a film for all Star Wars fans...and it should be on the shelf in your home with your OT....I now know why Darth Vader himself (Mr. Prowse) was involved with this movie...and I call it a movie...not just a fan film....it is a step above all other "fan films" that I have seen.

    No...
no one paid me to say the above...
or gave me a free copy...or any of that...
I pre-ordered my copy and paid for it...
...and I can't wait till I get my DVD of "Saving Star Wars".....
    This film is WELL written...
    well acted....
    funny....
    yet sad.....

I urge you all to get a copy for yourself....or...when I get mine (due out next month)...I will be more than happy to bring it to the "Backyard Theater" ....or maybe we can put together a screening of some sort...

anyway...It was a long weekend....I have a seriously heavy duty week ahead of me....and I have a headache that is sooooooooo bad that it feels like there is a Bantha parked on each of my temples....

    Gochi out...

    lol....don't go there Bosh.......

seriously....I have seen a good number of fan films...
    and....well...as stated....
will this win an Academy Award?

    no....

but as Star Wars fans....this film gives a really good look at us....
there is even some footage taken at CII.....in some of the scenes I could even envision you (Bosh)and Matt Springer playing the roles...

    Will you like it Bosh?
    ....hard to say...
but out of all the fan films I have seen....this one tops them all....it is a movie that has a REAL story to it....and you find yourself interested in the characters....and rooting for them....
The room at Gen Con had quite a number of people in there watching....everyone was laughing when they should have laughed...and applauded in many places....so I am not the only one who got caught up in the story....
    ;)

    *bows deeply to Schph*

I (we all) thank you for your glowing review of our film!

I don't know if you heard Gary (the Director) or not, but there is still a +/- 15% technical refinement to go before the DVD release. So, what that means is the copy you'll get will have tighter editing and much better sound.

    Thanks again!

    George

.....and I hope someone ties the real George Lucas to a chair using dental floss....and makes sure he sees "Saving Star Wars"....
    ;)

....and Bosh and I have agreed to disagree on the Prequels....it is a matter of perspective...I have a tendency to reflect on what was positive about the PT instead of zeroing in on the faults....it is how I TRY to approach most things in life...

    ..great movies....
    no....
    but...
    it is still pizza
    :D

    and....
does anyone know of any small theaters for Independent films in the Chicago area?

I would like to make some contacts to see if I could get "Saving Star Wars" screened at an Independent type theater....

As a child of the 1960's.....
Funk & Wagnalls was a running gag on Rowan and Martin's "Laugh-In"

    oooooppppps....my generation gap is showing...

as to the prequels, think of them as views of a period in history... Episode I being comparable to the presidential term of Millard Fillmore, Episode II like FDR's first term. Not the most thrilling parts of history, but still important things happened.

    That's how I justify them, anyway. :)

No doubt, I'm still waiting for the Millard Fillmore Unleashed figure.

Henry Clay: You'll sign the Compromise or we go to war!
President Fillmore: THIS PARTY'S OVER! (ignites lightsaber)

Edit: changed unleased to unleashed....I have the unleased figure, I mean why rent?

i wish the maggot-ridden corpse of President Fillmore had directed the prequels instead of Lucas.

    " Funk & Wagnalls was a running gag on Rowan and Martin's "Laugh-In" "

That was a good show! That was back before Goldie Hawn had all that botox and plastic surgery.
