So, what's up with this?

I sent a PM to Dorkman asking him about the prompt... haven't gotten a response.

 

I'm curious as well.

He said he thought that the competition begins on February 1st.

I thought it was whenever he came up with a prompt?

 

February 1st was a suggestion talked about on the other page, but this date was never settled. I don't think anything about when it starts was settled.

I suppose as host, Dorkman should decide, but I think Feb 1st is too far. How many days are needed to think of a prompt? I bet the contest could be started by this weekend or early next week.

I'm ok with a Saturday start if thats what everyone wants.

 

I'd prefer a little more of a wait. For one thing, I have back-to-back archery tournaments Saturday and Sunday . . . I think we should leave it to Dorkman to confirm Feb 1 or set his own date.

I could post a prompt right now if that's what most people wanted. I understood the consensus, as above, to be February 1st, so I was waiting for that. I think having a few weeks to get your mind in the right place will help the writing immensely, give people a chance to make sure they've got time in their schedules for it, and give me time to sort out exactly how the submission process is going to work.

I don't know that I'll be entering or not mostly because I'm always very tired these days, life and all that. But if I've been paying attention right, a theme and start will be given, you have three weeks, then you PM dorkman with your story when you're done?

 

Alrighty, the first then.

VLM: Yeah, that's pretty much all the contestant needs to know. Besides the fact the short is PMed to the manager sock? Are we still using that idea?

Of course, the manager sock is then supposed to distribute the shorts to the chosen judges with no names included, making for anonymous and impartial judging.

Which would mean that if Dorkman is a host and judge as well, then someone else almost completely detached from the competition has to do the distributing. Perhaps a moderator? Droideka, Raven, maybe? (unless of course, if said mod(s) wants to be a judge)

 

Monty, you must enter. I want to read your story, if for no other reason than to see how quickly it descends into hardcore porn. My guess is 'by word 100'.

 

I happen to have a very good imagination Paul(boobs). I have no need to take what could be(naughty parts on me)a good way to express my inner mind by participating(ExCaLiBur needs polishing)and degrade it with pointless perversions(midget, camera, wookie, elf maiden).

As I understood it, much further back in the discussion, it was decided to bin the idea of a separate mod/co-host yadda, yadda, yadda, and just have the host who would not be a judge hence resolving the need for multiple people to host/co-host it.

 

I'm perfectly happy not "judging" to trim away some of the complication. I'll probably still critique but my vote won't count in an official capacity.

Um How exactly is that helpful, especially when no one knows the prompt? And I'd be willing to help is needed, of course, but I don't particularily want to be a judge.

I still wouldn't mind a prompt like... sooner than later. That would be great.

 

I agree.

February 1st seems unnecessarily long from now. But if everybody else wants it to be February 1st, well that is fine by me, but if it can be sooner, neat.

 

Feb 1st would also give us time to revive the thread in FanFic publicising this, get a mention in the Mod Squad update, and maybe even the SFF:BC's first top-of-page announcement?

We could splash this about a little. Regardless of the fact that it was the brainchild of the Guild, this could still be a flagship thread/event for the SFF forums. Lots of people still don't visit/know/care about them.

I actually already did both of these things just for the discussion of the contest. I'll up the Fanfic thread and ask the MS to announce the starting of the contest again when we get closer.

 

I'm writing something now, but it sure ain't for the contest. I'm here hoping it'll work. Thank, Tracy.
