I had trouble tracking them down in my area on Friday too. Half the places I looked only had boosters, so I assume the starters sold out.
But I did manage to finally get one, so I'm happy :)

Yes, besides New Dimension Comics, these are being sold at Phantom of the Attic. I'm not sure which locations as I only called the one in Oakland. This is not the comic store, but the one down the street that's the gaming store. (Same company, different location)

Same price for Starter and booster sets as everywhere else:

    $19.99 Starter
    $12.99 Booster

They have no plans to sell these individually (that is specific figures) at this time, but you never know.

Here's a first look at one of the minis from the Clone Strike set coming out later this year!

It's a Geonosian Picador on Orray!

    http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=swminis/article/clonestrikepreview1

I'll bet this is a "Very Rare" mini due to it's shear size. Hmm, maybe we'll also get a Nexu, and/or the other two beasts from the arena. That makes sense, if they're going to have the Geonosian Picador on Orray afterall.

And now here's the Second preview figure:
    http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=swminis/article/enlistedelite
Cool! If you read the article, WOTC hints that we will get Captain Typho as a mini in the Clone Strike expansion set.

On a related note, Wizards has made up scenarios using troops and no rares or very rares. You can go to this page, http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=swminis/article/enlistedelite , to check it out.

This would be cool to play as well. I'll talk about some of the scenarios that I've thought up for this since playing a demo round yesterday. This is a fun, but long game. I only played two games and the first took at least 2 hours with only me and one other, while the second game was three people and took 3 1/2 hours to play. I'd guess though that some of the length of play was due to our "newness" at the game and that continual play will result in a quicker paced game.

The Qui-Gon mini has started to show up on ebay. You know how I am with anything Qui, but my question is, what is a fair price for a Very Rare mini??

Any help here would be hot.

It depends on how much YOU are willing to pay and how Rare the figure is and how popular it is.

From experience with the first set of minis Very Rares ranged in price on eBay from $12-35+ (within the first couple of months of release). I put plus sign because some people were willing to pay ridculously high for the like of Boba Fett and the Emperor for instance.

If I were you GC, I'd wait for a month or two after this set has settled down to bid on Qui-Gon. You may get a better deal then after the "saturation" has settled down and the ridiculous high bidders are out of the way. I do however recommend that you keep a watch on this mini. Like Josh said though, it's really a matter of what YOU are willing to pay for the mini. I'm not even going to guess how much a Qui would be worth. He may become popular or could be abundant. But as an estimate of the previous sets Very Rares, I would say that a fair "eBay" price would be no more than $15 shipped (within the first two months of release of this set). That's to say your winning bid plus and including all other fees like shipping/handling and insurance. Yes, it's high for these little buggers, that's why I recommend you watch the auctions first. If they are going for what you are willing to pay, then bid, if not then wait for a few months and see what they are going for. Chances are they will drop in price.

BTW, GC, here's a look at the Qui-gon mini:

So did anyone else get Clone Strike minis?
If so, what do you think of them: In general?, SculptPaint application?, Stats?

Generally it's a good set but with too many extra fringe for my tastes. The sculpts are for the most part great. The paint jobs are standard fare for minis. By that I mean good. As to the stats, I mentioned it above that the Republic seems too strong on the outset. With the battle droids and Geonosians being rather weak.

The map included with the starter set is AWESOME! When you get it, notice that the table in the command area has the exact smae map on it, three times over. Very cool and gives one ideas...

I do believe that they've included more map cards than the previous set.

Lots of new Jedi Powers to unleash.

So far without playing this set yet, I'd give it an 8 out of 10.
Would have been higher, but for some trivialties or sculpts, too many fringe extras, and one side seemingly far more powerful than another.

    Hey eveyone,

It's been a while. On the topic of the CS minis, I've got some input. Mind you though, it's just my opinion:)

I like most of the characters and the way the game must be played with these new charcters is very different from Rebel Storm. More tactics I think need to be involved. However, all-in-all, I was very disappointed in this set. The sculpting stinks! I.E. battle droids, clone troopers, Durge-I-slipped-on-a-banana-peel, bent lightsabers, lame positions on alot of the fringers, Horrible painting on the clones....

I could go on. Compared to RS, this set is horrible. On the WotC message boards, the feelings are pretty much the same. They bombed out on this one.

The good news for me was I bought 11 boosters and 1 starter and got 40/60. And so far the prices are cheap. I'm playing my first official game this weekend with the CS stuff. Hopefully it'll go well.

Yes I agree about the paint jobs also some of the artwork doesn't match up. I like the abilities that the jedi give you. I played a 300 pt game useing all the jedi but due to lack of ability on initiative rolls got beat. I like Saesee Tin's blocking abilitys obiwan's too. Ki adi mundi's reroll iniative can be very helpful too.

Whoo-hoo, I'm down to only needing one mini from the Clone Strike set and it's on the way, so the set should be completed this time next week.

Next set is: Revenge of the Sith.

There's a rumor that this set will include 4 factions instead of 3.

One can only guess which ones. Hmm, let's see:
    Republic
    Seperatist
    Fringe

    hmm who else?
I'm guessing strictly Jedi, though maybe through in the Wookiees with them as well.

Oooh or how about the "Alliance" faction? different from the Rebel Faction of the first set, this set would include alliance leaders, such as Bail, Mon Mothma, garm Bel Iblis....

Oh and after this 3rd set, there are plans for th fourth and FINAL set which has been tentatively named "Universe Huge." Kind of a weird name. Maybe they meant the Universe at Large?

Rumor for that set is that there will be 5 factions:
    Rebellion
    Empire
    Republic
    Seperatist
    Fringe

That set will include many of the minor characters from the movies people clamored for in the first two and some EU favorites as well.

(Terry, that could be your chance to get a Wedge minifig)

actually sal the set is called Universe and is based on the HUGE sets from D&D there will be figures sold seperatly that are HUGE like 8" tall. fo example Heroclix are close to the size of the minis but the Sentinals are sold seperately and are HUGE. I'm so looking forewrd to that set! I'm hoping for some good EU figures like Jedimasters Luke and Mara the solo kids Coran Horn and such. Thrawn just to name a few. In the revenge of the sith starter sets it will include Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Supre comander, i think, Grievios. and 6 other minis. the set is due out in May. I did pretty good on my boosters I only need 15 more! I'm also down to 4 more for my rebel storm set, 2 I've won leaving only Obi-Wan and Boba I won a second emperor to trade for obi-wan leving only Boba. So I'm in decent shape.

Care to psot where you found this Josh?

In the Official Minis forums at Wizards as well as another one I frequent, they only ever been refered to as Universe Large. This could very well be a temporary name. And yes, I'm well aware that the moniker of huge is in reference to the large minis.

The starter set for this wave of minis is rumored to cost $25-30 this time because of the large mini and the boosters will rise in price accordingly. Also, the boosters will have less minis per booster than the first three sets. As of now the rumor is 5 with one of those being the "huge" mini.

Still too early to call yet on price and exact count per booster or who/what the huge minis will be. But there's been plenty of speculation.

The most expected one if the Rancor. THAT would be an Awesome addition to this line.

    I mentioned:
    SW:
Ronto-Maybe, though not much use. Size 2inX2in
Bantha-Again not much use, but he would look cool next to some Tusken. Size 2inX2in

    ESB:
TAUNTAUN!! Why the heck we didn't get these in the first place, I dunno. This is a must! Even if they are character specific with Han and/or Luke. Size 2inX2in

    ROTJ:
Rancor-Oh Yeah, we need every bit of its leathery brown hideousness in the game. This is definitely a "Huge". Size-no smaller than 3inX3in, possibly 4inX4in. Cost $15? He's be worth it at that size, IMHO. Maybe a special Wizards exclusive you can only buy through them?

    TPM:
Falumpaset with Gungan battle wagon-could see some use. Size 3inX3in
Fambaa-HUGE!! and could have a shield ability. Size 4inX4in Cost on this would be $15 as well. Again maybe another exclusive.

As much as I'd like to see an Opee Sea killer, it's just not practical, neither then would be the Sando Aqua monster or Colo Claw.

    AOTC:
    Reek (2x2)
    Acklay (3x3)
    Nexu possibly 1x1 or 2x2.

    ROTS:
Obi-wan on the flying creature (Bogen?) 2x2
Greivous in personal speeder (cross between Destroyer droid and cut-scene snail attack droid from AOTC) 2x2

People have been staying away from vehicles though (as far as guessing goes).

I think that's because it would heavily change the dynamic of the game. Besides, we can make use of exhisting toys for those if wanted. (IE Micro Machines, Action Fleet)

There was also talk of having a space map that if starships were introduced, there would be a place for them to be used.

RebelScum.com just put up this info regarding the "Universe" set:

    [start copy/paste]
    Star Wars Minis Chat Excerpts

Wizards of the Coast held a chat session last night with game developer Rob Watkins about the Star Wars Miniatures game, which included some exciting details.

The AT-ST will be in the Universe set. I believe its stats will be the same as seen in Ultimate Missions, except the point cost has been reduced to 54. The AT-AT would be a separate item that comes with a double sided map sheet. I believe the AT-AT will be 13" tall, 5" wide, and 15" long.

The Universe set has 7 factions... Republic, Separatist, Fringe, Imperial, Rebel, New Republic, and Yuuzhan Vong.

A board game style starter coming out with the Revenge of the Sith movie. It will also have expansion packs available with a typical tableau of 60 different characters available. The Universe set arrives later this year, introducing huge figures, two new factions, and rules for light side vs. dark side in different eras. There will be an Ultimate Missions book out for Clone Strike, and I think Revenge of the Sith... but we are leaning towards transitioning toward putting less scenarios in the Ultimate Missions and more maps/tiles. I am not certain when that effect will take place.

We have the AT-AT coming later in the year, with a double sided battle sheet of Hoth. We have organized play kicking off with plans for constructed play, booster draft, and starter set play. We have new terrain tiles and templates coming from organized play this year, along with alternate paint miniatures. We are currently plotting out set lists for three more sets in 2006. The only plans at this time are to rerelease Rebel Storm in Europe. Other reprint decisions will be made by brand. So I believe there are some exciting times ahead!

The decision to go ahead with the AT-AT came after our opportunity to put snowspeeders into the Universe set. We will put snow speeders into an Ultimate Missions book, and you can be certain that there will be snowspeeders in the next huge set. There are rules for how lightsabers interact with the AT-AT. It will be scenario based rules that explain how to cut a hole into an AT-AT and toss a satchel charge inside.

There are currently no plans for NJO to get its own starter. The Knights of the Old Republic, Clone Wars, Rebellion, and New Jedi Order eras are likely to be presented together in sets.

YEAH!!!! Now we know SW minis are going to be around for ome time! Maybe more folks will start to collect AND play these.

I mentioned to Josh that I had started up a club specifically for SW minis. Anyone interested, PM me. The plan with that is to have a big gaming session every month, run like a tournament. (More details, just PM me)

Anyway, it's great that these will be coming out all through the year and next. I especially liked that they (Wizards) is considering making sets for KOTOR. I was hoping Hasbro would make figs for these, but if not then SW minis are a nice alternative. Man that AT-AT sound IMMENSE when compared to the minis. That does sound to be like the same size as the actual figure sized toy. Hmmmm.

Well, while I go wipe the drool off my mouth, have happy thoughts of SW minis to come...

That is going to be sweet! The main problem with the Jedi has been that they can use the force to prevent damage or inflict it. With the Vong they most likely will not be able to against them. I so can't wait for those! plus more Jedi I so can't wait! I'm hopin for Coran Horn, Luke Jedi master,Mara Jedi Master,The Solo kids Lowie just ot name a few!
