Well, given the tone of when it occurs mainly, I don't expect it to reach quite that level in the future. I have, however, released the tone from many formal "TOS-style" rules of late, given some changes in approach and target audience coming out of the StarWarz proper, especially the GS boards.

My opinion is that all the Star Wars movies are PG, then all associated elements and projects of the franchise should also be PG in nature.

The films are PG, but there are elements in stories like the NJO books that step beyond that, at least in terms of violence at times. Also, fan productions in general have grown past those limits as well (just look at Second Strike), but I see where you're coming from.

I just assume that my audience, given the subject matter, are more mature than the average age level of the fan community as a whole, and while I attempt to refrain from such swearing, there are times when most adult will agree that it is, if not explicitly called for, then certainly justified. The case in point for CR #6 was, from all but the smallest bit of fan feedback, quite justified.

However, don't expect to hear much of that in the future, as this was a somewhat unique case, and you'll note that it was, for the most part, confined to that one rant.

Speaking for myself, I think this was the best episode of CR yet and well worth the hour download time to get it. I laughed, I cried, I learned.

Re: the swearing. Look, we all know it's a bad thing and we shouldn't do it. It DOESN'T happen in Star Wars all that much, aside from the rare use of "hell" and "damn." but the fact of the matter is: we are ALL grown adults, we know the words, and hey, no matter how hard we try, they slip out when we get excited or upset. I accept that and move on. I think the comments on the recent rant and CERTAINLY for the people who sent Bob Salvatore DEATH THREATS for killing Chewie were entirely justfied.

But that's just me. Lord knows it's taking all my self control to keep from going off on Dave Land on how I think he's a rotten editor, has ruined Star Wars Tales and should be turfed but now for his lack of respect for the material and the fans who love it.

    Again, just me.

"Speaking for myself, I think this was the best episode of CR yet and well worth the hour download time to get it. I laughed, I cried, I learned."

Woohoo! Did you cry at Carrie Fisher singing? I sure did when making it.

"Re: the swearing. Look, we all know it's a bad thing and we shouldn't do it. And, hey, Lucas references Kevin Smiths' films in the AOTC DVD commentary. He's effectively pointing fans to R-rated films with prodigious swearing in them.

"But that's just me. Lord knows it's taking all my self control to keep from going off on Dave Land on how I think he's a rotten editor, has ruined Star Wars Tales and should be turfed but now for his lack of respect for the material and the fans who love it. "

    Reeeeaaaaally . . . Interesting.

Tell me, do you have access to a microphone? Perhaps we could have a guest rant on an episode. The January 6.5 is looking to be sort of a catch-all so as to free up time in the Feb. regular episode.

I cried far more having to listen to the wookie porn, thank you very much.

Ah, how I WISH I had a mic. But, working at a computer store, I'll shop around. But any rants would be limited to text for now. If you like, I can email my review of Tales 14 and a post I made in the Tales... May I Take Your Order? thread that I think killed the thread for a few days!

Keep me posted, be happy to help out however I can.

Go for it. I can read the rant "with feeling." :)

It can be the third letter for the episode. You sent the other one, right?

Update on Ep. 6: I've been getting a *lot* of letters on this one, especially on the Holiday Special. Let me answer them here before I put them on the page.

1.) No, I can't fit every single letter into the next CR. However, given the scope of a couple of the longer letters, I think they pretty much cover what most people have been asking.

2.) Yes, I do answer all emails personally, as timely as I possibly can with my schedule.

3.) No, Yoda won't be coming back. 6.5 will introduce a new player that you'll briefly hear at the start and finish of each episode.

4.) No, I can't provide a copy of the HS to everyone who asks for it.

5.) Yes, that was actual audio from the HS. (Where do people *think* I got the sound?)

6.) Yes, you will hear Ian in Second Strike soon. The tenative release date for Act I is still Christmas Day, though it may be more like New Year's Day.

7.) No, I don't want to sell my CEDs of the films, but I *am* still looking for a cheap CED player.

8.) As far as audio questions and such in light of guest co-hosts . . . Keep in mind that the first segment of each show is just me doing pick-up work. I can still take audio-recordings of your questions and use them in that section without it causing any problems for mixing in the guests and such. No worries.

Update: Looks like we're still on-target for the Mike Beidler (SW Lit Compend.) interview going up on Friday. I've also just scheduled several more interview editions . . . but the Crispin and Rubio ones are looking like they may end up falling through. I haven't heard word one from them since the initial contacts.

Another update along with this one: among those new interview editions, it looks like one will be with Walter Jon Williams. :)

Update: By the time a week from tomorrow (Friday the 27th) comes around, there should be THREE more ChronoRadio Interview Editions out. Just after midnight tonight, I'll be releasing the Beidler interview, then Christmas Day will see the release of the turnabout interview that Michael Smith did with me, then Dec. 27 (next Friday) will see the release of the Brooker interview.

The next interviews will be up Wed. and Fri. I was hoping to get any comments on the Beidler one taken care of before then.

Yeah, I did send one letter already. I'll send the Rant probably right after Christmas. Too much Christmas joy and eggnog to loathe right now.

BTW, want to rant on something? Rant on why DH can't get their comics out on time anymore!

    I should. :)

Maybe if things don't work out at having Chris on the show over break, I'll do 6.5 on my own with the same general topics, including a rant on that.

Nathan, listening to the article right now as I type this message. Really entertaining for the Chronology / History Star Wars buff!

I always find it bizarre also when I hear my name mentioned... I must be truly part of the history of Star Wars fandom. Pretty good feeling actually.

Yes, Mike Beidler is the true grand-daddy of online Star Wars timelines.

The new Interview Edition with Will Brooker is up!

And, technically . . . I don't. I either do it by having both me and the co-host record on our ends, then I mix the files together in sync, or I have a cordless speakerphone that I can put right with my PC's mic, which picks up very well. It comes off as clear as it would running it through the phone into the computer, but it doesn't require me to do much editing or splicing, since it's real-time.

Episode 6.5 is now completed. It'll go up in a couple of weeks, followed the week thereafter by the Chris Hanel interview, which will be recorded tonight.

The Conspiracy interview is being recorded tonight as well, to be released on Friday.

Nathan,I really liked your Holiday Edition! Boy you sure were swearin your head off in that one. The really interesting part of the show was when you read the letter from a fan about the viability of the SW & ST franchises
especially the SW books after Episode III. You mentioned you spoke to a Lucasbooks VIP that there are no plans for a post-NJO series
and that it would likely end up stories between trilogies after Episode III. Well I think there should be a massive story arc like NJO set between Episode III & ANH dealing with either Vader hunting down the Jedi or Tarkin or maybe the beginning of the Rebellion.

But I think down the road there should at least be a few post-NJO books dealing with Ben Skywalker because he is the third generation Skywalker and the adult Jacen and Jaina and what the SW galaxy is like after NJO but it should be set 10 or 20 years after NJO. But I can't think of a villian that could top the Yuuzhan Vong.

I anticipate every episode of ChronoRadio and the SWT-G. My favorite was Episode II about the fate of SW after 2005-2006 and Episode V when you got mad at all those people that sent death threats to R.A. Salvatore for killing off Chewbacca in Vector Prime. I can't blame you. People are headcases.

I look forward to your next NJO retrospective this fall on CR.

I have suggestions for future topics on CR:

Comparing the Bantam SW novels to Del Rey

Comparing NJO authors to prequel authors

Talk about Zahn's upcoming SW books:Survivor's Quest and the Outbound Flight Project novel I can't wait for those to come out especially SQ because it will take place ENTIRELY IN THE UNKNOWN REGIONS with my all time favorite SW hero:LUKE SKYWALKER.

    Keep up the good work,Nathan!!!

P.S. What's your favorite SW character

    Michael:

The Conspiracy interview is an interview with Brian Tomaselli and Scott Schlosser of TBX Productions, the creators of Star Wars: Conspiracy, a fan film based on the HBO special Conspiracy staring Kenneth Branaugh and Stanely Tucci. A very psychological fan film that portrays several established characters, including Soontir Fel, Armand Isard, and Bevel Lemelisk.

Also, one of my listeners recently mentioned the idea of having notices about new CR releases mentioned on TFN Books. I think he was talking to one of the guys behind that section (or talking out his arse). Does that seem at all feasible?

    Thrawn:

Well I think there should be a massive story arc like NJO set between Episode III & ANH dealing with either Vader hunting down the Jedi or Tarkin or maybe the beginning of the Rebellion."

You and me both! The pre-planned story arc idea seems perfect for such a time period, as long as they don't lock themselves into *just* that type of story. Then again, I'm a big Babylon 5 fan, so pre-planned arcs are my favorite anyway.

"But I think down the road there should at least be a few post-NJO books dealing with Ben Skywalker because he is the third generation Skywalker and the adult Jacen and Jaina and what the SW galaxy is like after NJO but it should be set 10 or 20 years after NJO. But I can't think of a villian that could top the Yuuzhan Vong."

Well, they haven't ruled it out, but they've said they have no plans for it at the moment. One has to wonder if Lucasfilm has possibly again given them a hush-hush version of the "no, you can't do stories 30 ASW4 and onward" restriction.

"My favorite was Episode II about the fate of SW after 2005-2006 and Episode V when you got mad at all those people that sent death threats to R.A. Salvatore for killing off Chewbacca in Vector Prime. I can't blame you. People are headcases."

I'm reminded of Men in Black. "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicy, dangerous animals, and you know it."

"I look forward to your next NJO retrospective this fall on CR."

That should show up in either a November Supplemental Edition or December's regular edition, so look for it in Episode XI.V or XII. I think that's right...

"Comparing the Bantam SW novels to Del Rey
Comparing NJO authors to prequel authors"

Those could work as one sort of comparison episode. That begs the question of what kind of review would fit that theme and what fan-production topic might also fit that theme, if any.

"Talk about Zahn's upcoming SW books:Survivor's Quest and the Outbound Flight Project novel I can't wait for those to come out especially SQ because it will take place ENTIRELY IN THE UNKNOWN REGIONS with my all time favorite SW hero:LUKE SKYWALKER."

The plan right now is to hit these when they come out, as a sort of focus on the new stories in light of old information and a look back at what hints we ever had about the events therein.

"P.S. What's your favorite SW character"

I'm big on character development, so in the films, it'd be Anakin Skywalker, but overall, it'd be (big gasp here) Ulic Qel-Droma.

"EDIT EDIT EDIT, CUT CUT CUT":

Do either of you happen to have other ideas on how to get the word out about the show? Second Strike has done a fair job of it, but it's still not up to where I'd like it to be in terms of downloads.

Also, for the record, since Thrawn suggested topics, here's a general idea of what's coming in future episodes, which haven't been announced on the site yet:
Obviously, February is the Valentine's theme edition, which has a banner up already. Erica Strafford will return for that one.

April's should be, due to Easter, focusing on the Anakin/Jesus parallels that Lucas worked into the films in some places, parituclarly in TPM, plus a look at the cultural and mythological archetypes found in the saga. I figure those two themes go together well. I'll probably be asking Chris Hanel back for that one.
One in May, if there is one, would definitely include a look at Star Wars as of May 25, 1983 and its aftermath b
