In the simple opinion of a fan of the work of LucasFilm, George Lucas creates some of the coolest, most diverse, strange, and sometimes disturbing characters in the art of cinema.
Ever since his debut with THX 1138 Lucas has had a knack for creating the hero of old mythological lore idolized in the form of the everyday normal person.
The person we all wanted to be, taking charge of our lives and assessing our situation for what it is, a blank pallet to make whatever we desired.
He pushed the limit of special effects and make-up technology with Star Wars and the large cast of alien creatures ranging from the bleakly mundane to the flamboyant.
And above all of that is his consistently typical cast of major characters, the stars of his films carrying basic backgrounds with stereotypical personalities lifted straight from Arthurian Legend and Kurosawa film.
The rogue with a dark streak, the enigmatic hero, the soft-spoken wizard, the bumbling sidekick, all basic story pallets that had been lifted from the ages and used to tell his story.
Yet instead of simply becoming forgotten, tried and true examples that classic cinema was dead and gone they grew in the hearts and imaginations of audiences worldwide.
People grew to idolize them and their often-ironic attributes highlighted by Lucas? unusually sparse dialogue.
And of course there way always the villain to stand at the opposing side of the hero, the never-do-well who delighted in the torment and chaos inflicted upon others.
Weather he be a crippled old man hiding behind dark robes or a gangly nazi searching for a long lost artifact to ensure world domination, they are always wearing black hats and helping the course of evil to becoming the total dominator over life.
Unusual handicaps and issues often arise in these charismatic characters of vile qualities though, sometimes in the form of a deep wish to do what is truly good for all or simply a health issue as breathing.
Either way Lucas brought back the villain as the black character and redefined people?s love for their visage, their lack of caring for what others thought or believed in and ability to work towards their final goal.

All of these elements and more is what makes this a particularly interesting topic, the discussion and presentation of what we feel to be the best Lucas characters.
We all have our favorites, our personal picks that we become enlightened to see on the big screen (or even the television screen).
A few come to mind off the top of my head, namely Indiana Jones for his utter personification of the tempted hero, the man with personal wishes and goals but the greater good of all as his ideal.
He doesn?t quite have respect for all people and tends to speak his mind, but Indy above all respects the archaeological findings and treasures he uncovers, sometimes even having deep knowledge and belief in age-old laws and practices long forgotten.
Always on the side of those who seek the treasure for the good of their country (our themselves) he faces moral issues that tempt his true scientific nature.
Yet, even though he makes mistakes and takes more then a few beatings along the way he has a heart of gold through and through, choosing nothing but what is right at the very last moment.
Yet, there is a wide assortment of characters that are worthy of mention?

He created the ultimate hero, Indiana Jones and the ultimate villain, Darth Vader. He gets major props for that.

Yes George is quite the man...

    But we all make mistakes..

    (cough)Howard the Duck!(cough)
No seriously, my fave would have to be the duo of C3PO and R2D2 tied with Luke because hes was an orphan, or so he thought, son of a sith, and is a Jedi with a sis he didnt know he had....Although, the chacter and life story of Anakin is quite intriging....and JarJar....uhh...nothing comes to mind
