Well, hold on. Stevie Ray Vaughan > Eric Clapton.

 

That's actually a tough question.

Just speaking in terms of what he could do with his fingers, and the passion with which he played, I don't think anyone can really match SRV. He was just unbelievable.

However, when the questions comes down to influence and style, I have to go with Clapton. Cream is probably my favorite band right now though so I'm a bit biased. I think the fact remains though that while Stevie Ray Vaughan has been more influential strictly within the blues scene, Clapton has influenced strict blues guitarists, as well as countless rockers.

Although it's worth noting that colleagues have said that when Clapton and Vaughan played together, Slowhand would actually get really low self-esteem about his playing. So that alone is to SRV's credit. I mean, when you can make Eric Clapton feel inferior, you know you're good

 

I've only heard a few songs from each. I'm very much a rock 'n roll n00b.
