Ahhh, translation errors; I should have realised. I'll remember that for future reference. Where's a good Babel Fish when you need one... :D [:D] :D

The problem is, I do not use translator but the unreliable machine that is my head. Because in my arrogance I think I can do better than any software. And then turn what I wanna say simply from German to English. Word by word. I stumble about that in player posts all the time and correct it. My mistake is probably not to give RPR posts the same treatment of anglofying (and now I begin creating words, I am such an idiot, really :p) my language :p. Enough apologies for German rudeness. Back to the game. I await a look from a German with a better English than I have any second now. :)

The only rason why anybody could think my english is better than your is because you can´t use your hilarious superior collection of english curses and dirty words around here Fin :p Let´s face it, it cripples you.

Matrix.

Matrix.

I won´t repeat the praise, except mention the points I especially strongly agree with. Solid OP, solid story, interesting set up and good choice of franchise.

d6 System might actually be the best choice for that game. I cannot imagine any other. The strength of that system is the ability to have players "do the impossible" within´ rules. I remember how your small time Jedi suddenly with active Lightsaber Combat and Combat Sense jumped from 3D Lightsaber to 7D Lightsaber and cut down a horde of stormies, despite his lack of real training. I loved that cinematic outbursts of power and it is EXACTLY what Matrix is about, too.

Does it pose a problem for player-recruitment? I do not think so. First there is a lot of talk about using dices in games. I think there is a hunger. While Vulture´s Talon seemed to suffer, you must consider you tried to adopt the system in it´s whole (all elsewould have been pointless in the games forum. Here it is another story) while Anvil is adopting it only in parts. This simple version might be just what is needed. Those looking for the dicebased system might jump aboard. Those looking for a Matrix game won´t find it too much of an obstacle. I think it might work and share Saints enthusiasm here.

The Morpheus-Issue. Well, I will say it outright. Saint makes a valid point. I also think having him played instead of a plot-vehicle by being a NPC is also attractive. ABY games by Sinre showed the presence of canonchars can be balanced. So I suggest the middle way. Have him as a player char. Yes, take care it is a good player. Why not recruit him yourself by writing an ppropriate candidate. We GMs do not talk about it a lot, ut YEAH we do that aaaaall the time *expects GMG Manhunt*. Then make sure he is not the central protagonist of the story. But one in a team. Have the player play him as totally green behind his ears. Why that effort? Because players joing will be Matrix fans. And despite it all, it is very entertaining and very rewarding to see the story before the movies reveal itself. I would love to see Morpheus with the Oracle. Who brings him there and when? What are her exact words? I would love to see his first contact with Agents. Or who his mentor was. What shaped him. As a sideplot, that makes the game richer.

So, this is it from Radio Free Heidelberg. See you tonight at a good game of d6 Star Wars :D Coincidentially we´re playing our yearly game TONIGHT.

The Sith Crusade

[image=http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/d/d1/Ziost.jpg]

They came when she died.

When he faltered.

When she became the Sword at last

When he was truly born.

Mara. Luke. Jaina.

Darth Caedus.

The ancient capital of the Sith Empire was stirring. It was disturbed by Jacen Solo during his wanderings, and again, when Ben Skywalker discovered another ancient secret in its depths. But some secrets remain, and one sees its chance.

The Sith return.

[image=http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/c/cb/SithWarriors-TORtrailer.jpg]

Dozens of Sith emerge, securing an Empire from Telos, Serenno and Lianna, calling in resources amassed since the final death of Emperor Palpatine. Even as the Confederation and Mandalorians drive the Alliance into the heart of the Core, the Jedi Order is forced to focus their efforts on a new enemy with a single fleet, the Alliance Eighth Fleet, culled from the Hapes Consortium. With shocking speed, the Sith secure the fleet of the Corporate Sector, and advance towards Botajef and Columex. Wielding new and terrifying weapons, the Sith negate the strength of the Jedi and rout them at Celanon by use of the Darkcloak, drawing on their target worlds in the days following the death of Mara Jade Skywalker.

It is at the shipyards of Botajef the Alliance advance, seeking to engage their new enemy before they trap the Confederation at Kuat. As the most powerful Masters of the Order focus on Balmorra, the Jedi are divided between controlling the excesses of co-Chief of State Solo, and defending their academy on Ossus. The Alliance must succeed at Botajef to hold the enemy firm, even as the Jedi must do the same at Columex.

Battle is joined.

Battle

Crusade is a turn-based strategy game based upon the system created by the EUC and RPF Tournaments. Instead of duellists crossing blades, warships will engage each other, and instead of judges, the system defines what opponent will succeed in the battle. The fleet will be ?provisioned? of assets and capabilities, much as a duelist specialises in various powers from a list.

Assets and Capabilities

The Sith fleet is newly created, thrown together from vessels pillaged from the Corporate Sector and from specialist technology resourced from the shipyards of Lianna, loyal to the Acolytes of Darkness for the past two decades, but their resources are rushed together and not perfectly provisioned. The Eighth fleet is drawn from taxed revenue streams and strained supply routes, many severed by the Second Galactic Civil War. But, by and large, they are matched asset for asset ? Hapan Battle Dragons are matched by Victory-class Star Destroyers, Nova-class battle cruisers by Invincible-class heavy cruisers, Beta-class cruisers by Marauder-class corvettes, Hetrinar bombers by TIE Bombers, Miy?til fighters by Authority IRDs, and StealthX?s by TIE Reconnaissance fighters.

[image=http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/0/01/Hapan_Battledragon.jpg]

[image=http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/6/6e/VicStarI-EaW.jpg]

[image=http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/c/cf/Miytil_SotG.jpg]

[image=http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/e/eb/Ird.JPG]

The fleets provisions are as followed, and they are split by physical weapons, energy weapons, and fighter-based. Each fleet may choose ten options to resource their fleets, but the fleets can only be provisioned so much ? an option may only be chose twice.

Note: the more powerful attacks run the risk of being negated by more countermeasures ? if any aspect of the attack is negated then the entire attack fails.

Offensive

Missile barrage ? physical ? lower your opponents morale by one point, and negate a fighter based attack

Torpedo run ? physical ? lower your opponents morale by two points

Bombing run ? fighter ? lower your opponents morale by one point, and negate an energy based attack

Stealth Slash ? fighter ? negate a fighter

Sinre, I donßt get it. The Sith are fighting against each other? Or why is there only one fleet? And I seriously do not understand what the story is. Who I am to play and what the overall goal is. I think the whole thing needs streamlining there.

And maybe a much more conventional setting would do it a lot good. The whole Legacy-DelRey-Era is not very popular, well thought through or very well balanced. Actually the ships of that time, like the Corellian Dreadnaughts they used over Hapes and the Turbulence-SDs have no pictures, yet.

While I disagree with criticisms of the LotF era, though I can see your argument, it is quite bulky in its beginning, I suppose.

Maybe I should replace the opening with a few scenes to 'show' rather than 'tell' the plotline.

More or less, a Sith group hiding on Ziost has been stirred by the events of LotF, and launches an assault on the Alliance in the days following the death of Mara Jade Skywalker. The Hapans and Jedi are the only forces in position to stop them, and the Alliance is too stretched to field more than a single fleet. The Sith assets are thrown together haphazardly, thus only have a single fleet themselves.

The mass of backstory is because a second game would run concurrently, using purely the Dueling Tournament system (with balancing tweaks) between the Jedi and Sith fighting on Columex - the events of both games would influence each other. I've been angling for a new war game but creating a system is particularly difficult. The subtext I'm trying to suggest (which would be more relevant to the second game) is that both the Jedi and Sith are fractured, their unity weakening as the series continued.

Sinre´s new in the new year. Well, let´s have a look.

So, I think these prose introductions would do it some good. Actually I kept on wondering if you meant an early start of Krayt´s Sith or not thorugh the whole OP.

Anyway. The good, the bad the ugly.

The Good

The fleet system is solid. Buy advancments seems like a good idea and one can see where you´re going. It generally looks a lot different to the usual way to deal with it. Although fleet sizes seem to be of less importance. But drawn together with any kind of galaxy map where one can see what is conquered and what not, this could make a thrilling tactical game.

As tactical playing is the absolute core of it, that seems to be the major point.

The Bad

I agree with LordT on the Legacy era. Critic accepted or not, it is simply not as far spread or well known as the NJO era. Many people don´t follow it, actually. So, that limits player numbers. It also has it´s enemies. So, some people might not join for that reason. That is an unecessary burden, is it?

The ships are a little very, very old fashioned. Victory Star Destroyers? These things are becoming 90 by then and are on the bottom line ship construction. there are some nice fanmade pics of the Legacy Era ships out there, I suggest taking these. that way you also have blank identity of ships, avoiding fleet discussions.

The Ugly

Get these terrible Hornet-Interceptors out of the introduction. They look so . . . 60ties!

Once Upon a Time in the West?

?When the chimes stop,? the bandit said, ?pick up your gun.?

?Look, pal? er? Indio, was it? You don?t want to do this,? said the Confederate soldier, as he nervously eyed his revolver, which was on the ground three feet in front of him.

?Ah ?ah ?ah, the chimes,? Indio replied, staring at the locket the sound was coming from.

?$200,000 in gold, all yours - just let me live!? the soldier nervously blurted out, as perspiration rolled down his forehead and across his eye patch.

?$200,000? I somehow don?t think you?re carrying that much, Lieutenant.?

?It?s not on me ? but it is in a cemetery. I can tell you where.?

?Oh really, where is this cemetery??

The Lieutenant hastily informed Indio.

?Interesting. But, a thought occurs to me,? Indio replied, as the chimes began to soften.

?And that is??

?If I kill you, I don?t run the risk of splitting the money.? The chimes stopped. ?Time?s up, Lieutenant.?

The bandit drew his gun and fired, laughing madly as he did it.

[link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0-DlkLfEiM]Welcome to The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly[/link], a game inspired by Sergio Leone?s classic ?Man With No Name Trilogy? and westerns in general. It?s 1865, the Civil War has begun to draw to a close, and your character will be one of the many individuals who have set out west to make their fortune, and that?s precisely your objective ? to get rich, or die trying. How you choose to do so is entirely up to you.

Your character?s primary objective in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is to make money, and lots of it. Specifically, your goal is to become the first player to earn $100,000 ? or to tie with someone else. Yes, unlike in many other RPs, someone will walk away from this game a winner ? the rest? well, undertakers need to earn a living too, eh?

That being said, there are many ways to make your fortune:
[ul][li]Bill Carson?s Gold ? Somewhere in a cemetery out west sits $200,000 in gold, more than enough to instantly skyrocket you to victory. Details and clues to its location will emerge as the game progresses. But be forewarned - $200,000 is a lot of money, enough to kill for. Which brings us to?[/li]
[li]Bounty Hunting ? Approximately once a week, the sheriffs? offices will post a list of bounties worth various amounts of money. The more dangerous the criminal, the more you?ll earn for their head. Take note ? NPCs won?t be the only characters with prices on their head.[/li]
[li]Crime ? The second-oldest profession in the world remains one of the most profitable. Robbing banks, holding up stagecoaches, train robberies, even outright killing and looting are all valid ways of making your living. Killing NPCs and PCs to take their money is allowed. Of course, wanted criminals have a tendency to show up on bounty listings?[/li]
[li]Gambling, and Assorted Odds And Ends ? Feel free to come up with other methods by which to make a living, so long as they make sense within the game ? mining on asteroids, for example, is right out.[/li][/ul]

Well, there is one simple and important question. How are the duels decided? How are they played? Do you judge posting quality, or do dices fly, or is there a system at work of sorts? It might be good to lay it open to explain how the three classes work in general.

Otherwise, a very, very nice layout. Love the old movie posters. The idea of the game is very good. Very unique.

About all else I´ll be silent until I "get" it.

Ah, Duels are handled using a three stat system (Determined based on starting class) and a behind-the-scenes d20 roll. The results are then determined using a heavily modified, far more deadly variant of True20. Hence my explanation of combat involving "Predetermined stats and a bit of luck."

I wasn't sure which way to take it with regards to how much to reveal (I erred on the side of keeping the bulk behind the curtain, with class descriptions giving a general indication of how the classes handle: The Good - survival, The Bad - more damage, The Ugly - speed), so yeah, that might be a good change to make.

Micro-RPG Training Game ? Duration: two weeks

When Youngling School Trips Go Bad
(based on a concept by Skiara.

Baktoid Armour Weapons Factory ? 3:40pm

?Open up our factory to the public! Show the community that we really care!?

?Kitty!?

The Neimoudian supervisor stopped complaining to lay his grey, long-fingered hand over the angled, downward-facing ceraglased window over-looking the Test Area.

The small, dark-haired youngling with the wide-eyes, had the innocent, cheery face of one who has no idea how much danger she is in.
She sat on the floor, one pudgy hand closed round the leg of the newly-minted destroyer droid.

?No, not ?Kitty?,? he implored worriedly through the armoured window. ?That?s a Mark One Droideka.?

?Kitty!? She repeated loudly, while the droid calmly observed her with it?s photoreceptors.

?Alright, ?Kitty? then.? He conceded. The supervisor looked round at his staff, searching face after face until he managed to meet the gaze of one. ?We need to get her out of there!?

The other stepped back in shock at having the directive aimed at him. ?Are you mad? I am not going in there with a droideka!?

?Fine.? The supervisor growled, reaching for a Company comlink. ?Get me Emergency.? He said into the voice-activated device.

?Police, Fire or Ambulance?? Enquired a pleasant female voice from the handheld communicator.

?Jedi.?

Okay, this is a mini training game for a student and their teacher, to play the padawan/teacher pair being assigned to rescue the girl.
It has room for another player to be an npc, and for a GM.to run things.

There are four days for signups.

Alright, first, let me quote the relevant posts by Imp and Fins regarding this from the other thread:

In particular, I think the "not too small or underpowered" thing applies here - I'm not trying to rain on your parade here, but I worry that this 4-user GM/Adopter/Newbie/RandomOldbie thing might be too far removed from how the RPF works to serve as a proper introduction, and also that a 3-4 player game could tank rather easily. It's also impossible to work multiple adopter/adoptee pairs into a game like this, unless you want to run several of these games at once...?

Also if I think back to my newbie days, I jumped in straight into a game full of oldbies and learnt from their examples. They let me play just like they did, participate in their plots, and expected me to know what I was doing and to ask questions if I didn't - and so I did. I would not have wanted to go save a toddler from a droideka in a game people are playing just for my benefit. However ... I was also not the kind of newbie to sign up for an Adoptions program, so my experience might be inapplicable for the kind of newcomer we're trying to attract here.

But perhaps we could combine the basic idea with something more general? Set it up against a familiar backdrop - it could be the 4000BBY Mandalorian Wars, the Clone Wars, just after the second Death Star blew - and have the GM run little skirmish

I'm not sure, if this belongs to this thread or to the other thread where we speak about the adoption thing in general. But since you posted it here, Xany, I answer here as well. Feel free to move the discussion back to the other thread. :)

I'm also not sure, if I have said it somewhere already, but I like to clearify a few points and of course this is my view based on experience in WNU.

Some of you know that we have a training program inside adoption as well. It's a training everyone is free to choose to do or not, to end it whenever they want and to adjust it like it's needed. In some parts I compare this training program with the training game. So the basics of the training program and therefor of the training game (from my point of view of course, yours can be different :)) are the following:

- every master/student pair is free to join the game or not
- every team can do it until the end of the game or stop during that game
- learning game, no mistakes possible, preparation for the bigger games
- multiple teams can play at the same time, in the same thread, but not in the same training game

The problem with having more players in a training game would give a similar situation to the current game: A lot of people vanish, it's really slow and a new player can't learn much, since s/he has to wait for ages until a new posts comes in and even longer until it's a post that interacts with him/her.

That's one reason why I came up with this padawan-master game. No one is forced to do this training game. If they start with it and like to move on before it ended, it's fine as well, since its only purpose is to give a good start and help to a new RPGer.

The biggest advantage in my view is, the GM and the Master will be as aktiv as the Padawan needs/wants it and it doesn't hurt any other interested person. If the padawan wants to post every day, the GM and Master can keep up with that speed (and if that's not possible, they can explain that the usual speed is once/twice per week -> learning effect).

If a padawan wants to post once every two weeks, it's no problem for GM and Master as well nor for the other interested players who have a higher posting speed. This way everyone can learn the basics in the speed they want and in the way they want.

Even canceling that game and going to the bigger ones in RPG isn't a problem, since GM and Master know that the test gaming's purpose is to prepare for the bigger games and give courage to join them.

So in my view it's important that the introduction of the training game is well written, so the new players can imagine the situation easily, and that everyone knows that it's a training game and all options are open.

Just my two cents (again). :)

(And now I hope that my computer doesn't crash again like it before I could send out the last post I wrote. [face_praying] )

That's how I learned. I just jumped right into War of the Galaxies back in 2002. GrandAdmiralJello, CmdrMitthrawnuruodo, Protege-of-Thrawn to name a few of the users back then. I'm sure Jello and I can have a few laughs over some of my posts---I ran into one of my first posts in the RPF way back in the day and Jello and I were bashing each other. Man, the joys of youth. :p I made my fair share of mistakes in War of the Galaxies, but I started somewhere.

My next big game was The New Dark Times games (3 solid games, with 1 or 2 mis-starts of games). I would play with greyjedi125, Charlemagne19, GreyJediAntarFodoh, and exodus411 to name a few. The first game was great, as was the second game, and the third game.

My home port for say for many years was the Jedi Outcasts. I would end up making three socks for this game (Jim_Palso, Pennsylvania_Yankee, Jedi_Knight_Jason) and would transfer my Jedi Outcasts RPing to my Jim_Palso sock. From 2003 or 2004 to the beginning of this summer of 2009 I played with the Jedi Outcasts. In fact, I would only check that game for so many years, I never really checked any of the RPF. I would just go to my view latest posts and go directly to the Jedi Outcasts. I played with:

Earwen_Lightrider
jediknight88
Jon_Goodfellow
Kartanym
Laine_Snowtrekker
Lank_Pavail
Mitth_Fisto
PulsarSkate
SECRETSISTER
ShadowScout
SkyeLightrider
Zandoran_Celix

...to name just some. I would learn a lot and feel welcomed at the Jedi Outcasts for many years. A lot of us are close friends and have seen in each other in real life. So its like one big family. Now, we're just waiting for the new game to start---it's in the planning stages.

I say all of that to show that as a newbie I just jumped into things with War of the Galaxies, found great fun and enjoyment with The New Dark Times series of games, and found a strong home and family for many years with the Jedi Outcasts. I've played other games here at the RPF over the years, but those are the big ones. Now I'm GMing Intervention with greyjedi125 and I couldn't have done it if it wasn't for just jumping in with Jello and POT back when I first started, had the great experience in The New Dark Times, and found a home port for many years of experience with the Jedi Outcasts games.

Here is my idea for a new SWRPF

12 standard weeks after the Battle of Yavin.

A mysterious man sits in the shadows of the local cantina sipping on slightly smoking concoction. He seems to be intently studying the data pad that lay before him on the stone table he is sitting behind. Even though for all appearances it looks like he is ignoring his surroundings, you have the distinct feeling that he knows exactly what everyone around him is doing.

Cautiously you approach the table and take up the seat across from the mystery man. Without hesitation or even looking up from his data screen he speaks, ?So? you want to join the Alliance, eh?? His tone is loud enough for you to make out every distinct and precise word, but soft enough to be lost in the constant din that filled the establishment.

Before you can reply he continues, ?A Rebel?s life is not an easy one. Ill-equipped, outnumbered, hunted, and with no refuge, Rebels must constantly battle and elude the forces of the Empire.? He pauses long enough to take another sip from his drink. ?Although they struck a huge blow at Yavin, the Rebels hold little chance for victory. The Empire?s reach is nearly boundless, its power overwhelming.?

Suddenly you start wondering if this is truly your ?recruiter? or perhaps he is a member of the Imperial Security Bureau. You would not put it past the ISB to set up false meetings with potential Alliance recruits in order to make arrests. But as a team of Stormtroopers make a round through the joint you notice that your ?friend? seems to shrink even further into the shadows until they passed.

After ensuring the coast was clear, your contact continued with his sales pitch. ?Even with the odds stacked against us, all across the galaxy, courageous people like you, continue to flock to our cause. We must remain determined to halt the spread of Imperial tyranny and once again restore order to the galaxy.? Question guys: I am planning on designing an RPG detailing about Order 66. I just need to know whether to gave everyone pick where they want to be or should I make everyone be at the Temple?

So, actually CPL, I know the book :p No surprise, probably. I think it might be a fine game, all in all. In the sense of "playeer-attraction" you might consider getting a few pics into the OP, change the title into something more eye-catching and making the choices less broad. Players of such games usually like to have a straight idea of what they will do . . .

All in all, I might add later. It is a solid OP, I just miss a little spice in that soup . . .

Spycoder. That depends on the story. I cannot really imagine an Order 66 game. Everybody dies? Well, that is actually kinda interesting. but shall they interact or every player find his own way to end his life or what is the plan? Without such details it is impossible to say anything about the setting . . .

Well I planned on describing Order 66 in the eyes of not just Jedi but others. And I admit, several characters will die at the start of the RPG, I hoped for some survivors as to maybe lead onto another RPG. It could provide a backstory to many characters. Also it shall kind of go in slow mode, that way as to drag it out. It is still in early stages, and if I get several CS's I might need a CoGM.

Well, I think you should then get a clear vision of the topic first. and you plan to do it for so many players you actually need a Co-GM? That sounds like a pretty epic thing, for something like Order 66. If you want to have soooo many players, I think the Temple would be a bit small. And doesn´t allow too much room for survivors.

Phew, much effort put into prettying this up...something I don't normally do. Anyways, first effort from myself in a while. Looking for feedback, suggestions, ideas, the like. The basic concept of the game is fairly set in stone at this point, though.

LINDEMAN: We've seen the pictures and video. Not the prettiest stuff.

On November 13th, 2018, something happened in Earth's orbit.

Information was scarce. Deaths - eight crew members were either killed or met with a tragic and accidental end - and theft of powerful warheads and important data about the latest in military hardware - the Orbital Defense Platform.

In the public media it was referred to as the ODP Incident - a tragic accident. No mention was ever made of the strategic elements lost in the ordeal. It was a horrific and tragic accident, end of story - except to the community of military intelligence.

It was absolutely vital that the story behind this horrific accident become known.

But what had happened?

Welcome to No Safe Haven, an RPG set in the confines of a modern military space station.

The UN-supported Orbital Defense Platform has just begun a series of tests on the abilities of the weapons it carries. After six months of perfect operation, something went wrong.

You will play as one of six crew members on board the ODP.

If you're lucky, you'll make it out

I have always wanted an RPG like this to come out! Love the storyline and that you said we may die. Much more fun. I wonder how they died? Mysteries yet to be revealed.

Well, so first off I don´t see why people think it is anything harmful to make a game pretty . . . are you looking after the cars that look stupid? :p

Anyway, looks like a nice Sci-Fi game with some creepy set up. A little too familiar, probably, but I´ll address that later on . . .

I am not sure if the splitting of the interviews is necessary for Part I, as I feel they don´t gain anything by splitting them. Maybe doing it in one might be a better choice. The creepiness of it might become more concentrated. As creepy it is . . .

I also feel their is a need for information. Something I need to get from the back-story which is so far missing. Everything explains itself so fine, until I reach the CS and stumble upon the point where I shall name my nation. What nation am I, well what nations are part of the UN Defense Station? Against whom does the UN defend itself? Aliens? Earthly wars? If so, who has left the UN, actually? Here seems to be a story, that I need to know.

Also the number of six players is established a little late. I wondered how many players would there be, until the last paragraph. Some earlier mentioning might be good to give players a clear picture. The selection process for the case of more submissions should be addressed, too.

Now to the can of worms. (Pandorra´s box sounds so Avatar, these days)

I am never someone leaving things out here in the GDG, so I won´t do it this time.

I think we had a pretty similar game set in the SW universe not too long ago . . .

Obviously the question arises if it is already time to play such a similar game again. I was in Embrace and the experience is still pretty fresh to me. So, as much as I dig your idea, it would feel a little repetitive to me. But I guess Embrace worked out well enough for a few people. Most people around here have not played it. And if I recall it right the interest was far greater than the available player-slots.

Anyway, like with all games so close to each other, that should be given thought.
