I didn't want JFK to win. Simply put, I think he has too much of a reputation from being a martyr for being shot than for necessarily what he did (I'd say LBJ did more), and that the whole... "being shot" thing gives him a pass, and that his reputation isn't substance, really, but style. So I didn't want him getting momentum.

John Quincy Adams got some points from me due to his Amistad activity.

 

You're right re JFK.

J. Q. Adams was a man (like Carter) who was a poor President but had a substantial career in other ways. Like his father, John Adams, he was a little too eager to display his smarts and insufficiently emollient for a successful politician.

 

...You guys sure you're not thinking of Anthony Hopkins?

 

If we're gonna do history's great commanders next, then one of you should probably compile the list and post the thread because that's a subject I'm much less knowledgeable about, though I would probably use such a game as an opportunity to start learning about all these ancient guys.

The internet will tell you all you need to know. In the interests of keeping the list down, no Admirals or Air Marshalls.

 

If we can get Schwarzkopf on there for basically executing the biggest flanking manuever in history, how about Petraeus for salvaging Iraq?

 

Well we have to narrow down the lists to either 50 or below as I don't want to be playing this into the new year.

 

My list had 50 people in it.

 

I naturally meant the two lists (plus Petraeus) combined.

 

If you're concerned about the number of people involved, you could also just simply drop down the starting points they begin with (like maybe down to 15 points, or even 10).

 

Is that what you'd do? I'd be fine with one or the other or both.

Also Champion, just to quickly address something you said a few pages ago. I didn't just hold back and pounce when it came to eliminating presidents. I did more than my fair share of breaking them down before taking them out. In fact I'd dare say that if it hadn't been for 2 or 3 of us that game would have still been going on with 20 to 30 Presidents left because everyone was focusing on keeping and eliminating Carter and Teddy in gridlock battle. I agree that giving points for eliminations aren't necessary though. It was just a fun side project for the game as far as I was concerned.

 

I thought you were being clever actually, and playing the game quite intelligently. It wasn't intended to be a knock against you.

However I think if we play this again we should leave off naming eliminators; unfortunately some didn't see it as much 'fun' as the rest of us.

 

I just figured I'd get that out there.
