    This is where we'll discuss the Big Daddy (or Momma) of digital 2D.

    Let's get crackin'.

    For the record I use Photoshop 7. So I'll be able to answer questions, but there may be big differences if you're using, say, PS 5.5.

    I use 6. Quick question;

    How do I merge a Shape and a layer, if they were 2 different things on the layer pallet?

    Simply link them, then click on LAYER and "Merge Linked".

    I'm using Photoshop 6 here, and 7 at school. I'm still not as good as I'd like to be with photoshop, but I'm working on it.

    I have six and the beta of 7 but I really haven't used it much. I'm content with using 6 until I can upgrade fully to 7.

    I heard that 7 is Mac OSX friendly (yes, I'm one of those wackos that has a mac), but OSX bugs me, so I haven't really bothered looking into 7. Is it such a huge difference from 6? What are the advantages?

    from what I've seen out fo the beta I have it looks like they incorporated more Illutrator like functions into it and added more options to the brsuhes.

    Well, I'm trying to create a SW wallpaper in photoshop, and I was wondering how to get that effect where two images sort of blend into each other.

    If you don't know what I mean, look at this picture for example (especially look at Vader's hand, the one reaching out).

    E_Greyshadow's ESB wallpaper

    Any help is appreciated.

    Put the two images in separate layers and then you adjust the top layer opacity to something less than 100% of course. Simple as that.

    I SUCK at photoshop. T_T
    I have the 6.0 one, and I found a tutorial to make a lightsaber on a pic, but it's only for photoshop 5...-_-;:; Does someone knows how to make it on the 6 ?? I can't find a way to get the blade the right color (if o,nly I knew how to change the color of the line tool on the 6... @_@;; )
    I get a sort of okay glow (not that perfect), but the blade is.....black ^^;
    Helllp, someone?? ^_______^;;;;

    Thanks Krede.

    Darth_Kureru, This link should help. It's the tutorial I used to learn how to make sabers in PS 6. If you're still having trouble, PM me and I'll try to help. Also check The Official Lightsaber Tutorial Thread for more resources & tutorials. Hope this helps.

    Can anyone possibly tell me why whenever I try to feather something, absolutely nothing happens no matter what the pixel value?

    what is in the selection?

    if the selection is empty and you feather it, and then do a fill - then you will see the feathering.

    if you have a photo, and you select part of it and feather it, nothing is going to happen.

    If that's what you are trying to do - make your selection and feather it, then inverse your selection, and hit delete. Now you'll see the feathered edge.

    Hopefully this will help ya....

    I made a selection with the polygonal lasso, and then I filled it with white. It stayed selected, so then I tried to feather it, and nothing happened. I tried the inverse thing, and then it made a box around the selection and the whole picture, and then it still didn't feather.

    don't fill the selection until after you feather it. does that work?

    Well..sort of..see now when i tried to make the saber, it's just the glow, and no actual core...is there a remedy to this, or should I just add the core in after?

    So are you trying to add the glow to a photograph?

    Maybe... um.. add a new layer. Make your selection, feather, fill, etc, then make another smaller section of the core, feather that and delete so now you have a hole and the photo underneath shows through. You can adjust the transparency in the layers pallette as well.

    Sorry if I'm not being very helpful, since I don't really know what you're doing. Have you checked out the Lightsaber Tutorial thread? You might have better luck with that. Though I'm happy to keep helping you trouble shoot. :D

    Actually, I'm trying to create a saber from scratch using only a hilt, so there is no photo from underneath to show through.
