The UNL Discussion Thread.

I am creating this thread for all the people at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, since that seems to make up a majority of the people here on this board.

If anything happened around campus that you found unique/wierd/interesting like a speaker, or a display on fire, or an old lady being pushed into the fountain, and you want to talk about it, post it here!

If you need help with homework or are working on a paper and need topic suggestions, post here!

If you want to arrange an informal meeting, such as a lunch in one of the dining halls, post your ideas here!

 

I will do the first post for this thread to get it started.

What is up with the fountain in the plaza? Why is it shut off when everything looks perfectly fine? I like fountains when they are fountaining, not when they just sit there.

I think maybe they have to clean it. I also miss it when it's turned off

I agree about the wind. I was walking over to Hamilton at about 9:20 today and I had to walk sideways because the wind was so hard.

It was kind of funny seeing everybody leaning at 80 degree angles instead of walking upright.

Is anyone else planning on going to the Last Lecture thing next week (I think it's next week...)?

 

If I don't have a scheduling conflict I will go to it.

So... who else registered for classes yesterday?

I signed up for Chem 110, Intro to Statistics, Spanish 202, and some history class that I forgot about. I don't know, I really didn't know what I was doing.

 

I figured out my schedule Thursday night and registered at 7 Friday morning.

 

I was screwed over. I wasn't able to register until 3:00 on Friday, and I was out doing stuff all afternoon and that night. As of now, I only have 3 classes and I am not sure what else I am going to take.

It is a mess.

library class is that where everyone is silent and the librarian sings the praises of our friend Dewey Decimel!

Actually you don't have to know/learn anything about the Dewey Decimal system! Just don't put off the units until the last week, like I did

 

How long is the class?

 

I took the class this semester. I was done with it about a month and a half ago. Basically, it consists of a series of online quizes that you can take an infinite number of times and a final project that has you do some searches that meet certain requirements. You just need to clear off an afternoon or weekend to do it in.

 

Oh. That doesn't sound too bad! I might just have to sign up for it.

 

It's super easy. I think you get half of the semester in which to do it - our deadline was in October. I did it all in a week. It's the easiest credit hour ever.

 

Did anyone else go see Amos Oz last Tuesday? He was a wonderful speaker and had a lot of good things to say. I really enjoyed it

I agree. I thought he was really good (of course, his accent doesn't hurt). I think he was a little too optomistic, but I guess you have to be if you want the situation in that area to change.

Not to change the subject or anything, but it looks like we will have a turn in the weather tonight.
