Yup. About 10 months or so, assuming the March 2012 date holds.

    Bump.

I think Sanderson said he's about 94% of the way through first draft and that may not include Jordan's work.

Still don't really understand how he can wrap everything up in 1 book - in fact, I'm getting the (awful) feeling that some stuff that has been bubbling for several books now (e.g. the Black Tower) will be dealt with in a few chapters. I mean, this is Tarmon Gai'don, the Last Battle. I understand that Rand doesn't totally control fate and he won't have the luxury of having everything wrapped up nicely before battling the Dark One, but there's lots that has to happen.

I mean, the fact that we didn't get to the Tower of Ghenjei until Book 12 says it all, really.

At any rate, we're looking at November 2012 for a release for now.

Oh, that late? :( I mean, I definitely want him to take the time he needs to make the most excellent book possible, but I thought it would be out in April. (Guess I don't have to rush through my Modesitt read to get to my WoT reread, then :p )

After AMOL was split into three books, I can't imagine that it could be split again. I wonder what Harriet (and Tom and Brandon) would think of that. I'd like to see everything tied together nicely and not just wrapped up and moved past quickly. Readers deserve solid endings to plot points.

Sanderson has been saying for a while now that AMoL will not be split up. As you can imagine he's been asked quite a bit. And yeah it sucks that it'll most likely be fall 2012.

Shame that it had to be pushed back, but better that than rushing it.

Guess this means I'll go ahead and move up my WoT re-read, and quite possibly read it again in the fall :p

You're going to re-read it twice this year? Quite an undertaking :p

Im sure alot of people would just to hell with this series even after this long investment if they yet split and added another book to wrap it up lol.

I'm currently in my second reread of the Recluce series of 2011 :p [face_whistling]

In other words, it's me. What do you expect?

    [face_laugh] Very true :p

I think people would definitely be pissed off, but this late in the game, I figure they'll still read AMOL, whether it's two books or one.

I don't know if you guys know this, but long-time WOT cover artist Darrel K Sweet passed away two weeks ago. Hopefully whoever does the cover for AMOL will try to emulate Sweet's style.

Yeah :( It's quite sad; he's done a LOT of TOR covers. JS said Michael Whelan (who did Sanderson's Way of Kings) got the gig.

That's sad news. Although the covers in the UK have, for the last few years been pretty bland and forgettable, I mean look at this:

No offence to Sweet, may he rest in peace, but his covers started as awkward and became ludicrous by the end.

I liked the e-pub books much, much better.

Yeah I like those e covers also.

There is talk on Malazan of an entire series re release to capture new fans with all Whelan covers. I ll be really jealous but there is no WAY I ll rebuy the entire thing even though they ll be fantastic to look at.

Re-issue 'em in hardback and I'll consider re-buying 4 of them!

Those e-covers are pretty nice, though I still like Sweet's work a lot too.

Looks like next fall will indeed be the release date for AMoL now, though it's not official yet.

Well, if he's just finished the first draft, there is going to be serious editing and then they have to publish and market it.

I would be shocked if it was before November because I'm sure Tor will be wanting to hit up the Christmas market.

At a certain point, Sanderson doesn't have any control of when the book is released.

Sanderson's said to expect about 6 months of editing, and then after that it's up to the publisher (though obviously it still needs printing time after that at the very least).

Editing? What kind of operation are they running? Books don't need editing! Get 'em out quick!

Sarcasm aside, that's good to see!
