Which Star Wars score is your favorite?

ESB. 39% is simply not enough for this brilliant score.

AHN had introduced the main SW theme and many other pieces(So well-known that they've become a bit generic), of course.

ESB has Han & Leia, the Asteroid Field, Cloud City, Battle of Hoth and the Imperial March.

ROTJ has the Sail Barge, the haunting final few seconds of Vader vs. Luke and the new Victory Celebration theme.

TPM has Duel of the Fates and Anakin's Theme.

AOTC, despite some blatant reusing of previous themes, also introduced the stirring Love Theme.

Attack of the Clones

espacailly the Across the Stars theme is incredible

 

Have to go with ROTJ. Although all the scores have certain parts/pieces that I really love.. the scene in which Vader is trying to get Luke out of hiding in ROTJ and says "So you have a twin sister.... if you will not turn, perhaps she will" that music behind their fighting, completly in love! And of course Parade of the Ewoks

Don't get me wrong, they're all great soundtracks. The thing about Star Wars, which is the reason they are truly great films, is that the music is stand alone. That in itself is a great accomplishment for any composer. Star Wars is arguably one of the most elaborate and thematic soundtracks ever produced.

 

1. Star Wars

Listening to this soundtrack is truely surreal. John Williams' matching of music to movie is flawless. Every cue fits perfectly within the context of the film. Every cue ALSO serves as an incredible standalone listening experience. The leitmotif is very strong, themes show up whenever they are needed in all manner of articulations. The rich orchestration and powerful performance of the London Symphony Orchestra, coupled with the excellent restoration for the Special Edition release make for an amazing aural experience.

2. The Empire Strikes Back

This is sequel music at its best. Williams expertly expands on his themes from the first film while introducing several powerful new ones. Strong battle motifs emerge. The music occasionally strays from the film, going off on its own tangent, which further enhances the musical experience but puts distance between the music and the film.

3. The Phantom Menace

After fifteen years, John Williams was a changed man, musically. He could not reclaim the spirit of the Original Trilogy, but he devised something new and wonderful, and ultimately The Phantom Menace is still Star Wars at its heart, reinforced by powerful phrasings of the old themes. Musical variety is at one of its all-time highs. The Battle of Naboo sequence is one of the greatest battle suites ever written.

4. Return of the Jedi

While Return of the Jedi is still an excellent soundtrack, it loses the edge of the first two films. The music to the final Star Wars film is heroic, soulful, dramatic, resolute...yet it is not without faults: the embarrassing source music, the dreary underscore for the Endor scenes, and the reuse of Star Wars music.

5. Attack of the Clones

I just can't place this soundtrack in the same category as the others. Though it has its moments, Attack of the Clones ultimately fails to deliver. For the first time, John Williams wrote subtle, ambiguous music to reflect the mood of the film, but he also tried to retain the old bravado of Star Wars, and the result is an ineffective combination of styles. This isn't helped by the fact that twenty minutes of the film, including key battle sequences, were not scored, and the sound mix is the dullest I've heard in years.
