I love Belle and I agree she's an excellent role model for kids, but I had to vote for Ariel. The Little Mermaid has always been one of my favorite Disney movies.

Repunzel! She's amazing with her long blond hair and frying pan!

 

It's a tough call between Mulan and Jasmine for me. I would have loved to see Nala in there, too, Drac39.

 

Soo hard to choose. I like all of them!

 

Ditto. Since Aurora was lagging in votes I went with her, but it really is a toss up for me between the two.

 

Belle.

 

Ariel is the hottest one so I will go with her.

 

In terms of the characters listed I went with Belle, easily. Beauty the Beast is my favorite Disney film and in my top 10 films of all time, and a big part of that is because of her. She's got substance. She's a bibliophile like me and with a great brain and strong morals, and in the body of a beautiful woman with an amazing singing voice.

Other favorites are Mulan and Ariel, even though I still think Mulan and Pocohantas should even be included.

Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorite Disney movies but it's because of the great animation and Maleficent, not so much Aurora. Cinderella is a childhood favorite but I don't love it as much now as I did then. The Lion King is probably my second favorite Disney film.

Entirely off-topic, but I'd say my top five classic Disney (not Pixar and not CG) films are:
1. Beauty and the Beast
2. The Lion King
3. Fantasia (original)
4. Aladdin
5. Sleeping Beauty

Honorable mentions go to Bambi (for the stunning animation and one of the most emotionally moving scenes in film), The Little Mermaid (for Ariel and Ursula), Mulan (for a great heroine and the songs) and The Emperor's New Groove (for the fun story and villain).

I've seen 38 out of the 51 released feature in the Disney Animated Canon (plus a couple of the shorts in the 40's anthologies I haven't seen), so my tastes on the subject are pretty well-informed. The only ones I actually disliked were The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Jungle Book and Robin Hood. I wasn't very impressed by Treasure Planet, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Aristocats and Dinosaur either, but I don't really dislike them. Atlantis was great until the end when it suddenly took a sharp downturn in quality.

 

I like Belle best because she has beauty and brains.

 

Mulan, for her awesome fighting skills.

 

There is that, I suppose.
