Unfortunately Douglas Adams left us too soon, but his brilliance lives on in his books. Of those above, all or most of all of what he's written, which one is your very favorite?

Anything by Douglas Adams is wonderful, but my favorite is still the first one I read: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Hitchhiker's was great, but I find Tea Time to be the pinnacle of this sort of writing.

Hitchhiker's series as a whole, but the first book was the one that invented the style, so I went for that.

    Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I've read the other in the series, but this is really the only one I can remember...and it was GREAT!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is the only one I have heard of out of those...

Hard call, but "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" gets my vote.

Hitchhiker's/Restaurant/LU&E are pretty equal IMO . . . by which judgement Restaurant gets it, solely for having marginally more awesome Zaphod coolness than the other two.

The choice really boils down to Hitchhiker's v. Dirk Gently for me. The Hitchhiker's series goes progressively downhill, each book being worse than the preceding; the two Dirk Gently books are both magnificent, about on the same level. But I haven't made up my mind yet between the first Hitchhiker's and one of the Dirk's. I must contemplate this more.

I've only read the Hitchhiker books, so I can't pass judgement on the others...

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

It was the most fun and entertaining IMHO. But Life, the Universe, and Everything was also a nice gem - it had the best story (and the best cover).

I'm torn; both Gently books were marvelous, the first just slightly better than the second, though the second was more thought provoking.

On the other hand, Hitchiker and Restaurant were both brilliant. Life and Fish were both somewhat letdowns, but Mostly Harmless was an absolutley perfect ending.

    So I really can't decide.
