    You misunderstand.

ND is bigger than any silly ranking system.

'cept for, of course, when BSU is in the top 15, then the ranking system is awesome.

I still say, set up a playoff with the winners of the big six conferences (Big East, ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 10) plus two at-large teams (ND, Boise St, 2nd place SEC, whoever earns it). To people who say the regular season would be meaningless by comparison - the regular season would mean everything, at least the conference schedule would. Work it out - Div II and III have.

Maybe some good will come out of our impending national economic collapse. We won't have banks or cars anymore, but we will have a Div I/FBS playoff since no one will be able to afford to sponsor bowl games.

It would only benefit the fans. Not the schools or the conferences or the bowls. That's why they won't do it.

Yeah, but it seems like every year more and more coaches (and more and more influential coaches) are calling for some kind of playoff. But the fans are as passionate as ever, even with this current mess. They are as loyal to their franchise (college football) as Star Wars fans are to theirs.

Coaches are just employees. They really have no influence over the conference. (imo)

As a fan, I would like to see a playoff system. There is something appealing to me about the finality of having one clear national champion. It's true that the current system gives every week a "sudden death" feel, since just one loss can knock a team out of contention. But I think that if the playoff system is done right, the regular season can be just as exciting and we can still have a single national champ every year.

You know, cause big-time college football isn't quite "commercial" enough.

Big game for the Spartans this weekend against Penn State. A win there and a miracle Michigan upset of Ohio State gives MSU the Big Ten title!
