Speaking of men with long hair and Finns, Eurovision semifinal is on tonight. Finland's gone metal again (obviously they want to recreate Lordi's success), so Terasbetoni are in it tonight. Probably about the only chance of decent music winning it, even if Terasbetoni do suck compared to Apocalyptica (dunno why they don't compete in Eurovision, they > most Finnish bands).

EV is just bellow them. Although it would be fun if they tried it on.

Unfortunately, I don't have a TV and nothing Eurovision-related will be happening in the students Union, so I won't be able to see it.
I'm not complaining, because Eurosong is a foul thing, but I just wanted to see Finnish metalheads owning everyone again.

 

If you remember though, Apocalyptica performed at last years EV in Finland, but didn't compete. Ze Proof!

Is this EV the same event I heard all this hoopla about because France submitted a song in English language?

 

Yea. It's a silly Euro-wide event in which most European countries submit a song to represent them and then everyone votes. Of course, the 4 "big" countries that fund it (UK, Spain, France and Germany) always moan because none of them ever win it, and the Eastern European countries always seem to vote for each other (Russia/Ukraine/Baltics, ex-Yugoslavia, Greece/Cyprus, etc) giving them a better chance of winning.

Of course, there are exceptions (Lordi, most notably), but that's how it usually goes

And of course, now the French are annoyed because their song is in English, despite most people's songs usually being in English (or Italian, as the Latvians tried).

Most of the music is rubbish Euro/technopop, so that's why I enjoy it when something slightly different enters (I remember supporting tAtU back when they were popular, just because they had guitars in their music)

 

Well I heard Spain's song and I don't think the other countries can do worse than that even if they try.

 

I was watching American Idol which I normally don't do, but what is crazy is that my grandparents live like 5 houses down the street from David Archuleta, and month ago they insisted on showing us where he lives.

 

Eurovision is more a political thing than a song contest.

Russia, with a useless popsong. Ukraine was second, with a useless pop-song. Greece was third, with a useless pop-song. Armenia was fourth, with a useless pop-song.

There were several decent entries. Finland (came 22nd), Turkey (decent Indie rock, slightly like Muse, came 7th), Azerbaijan's (crazy weird symphonic rock with an opera singer, came 8th), Albania's (female fronted rock, came 17th), and Croatia's (which was just hilarious. Balkan Folk with a 75 year old rapper, who wasn't that bad. Came 21st).

Overall, a bad showing for the rock bands.

 

I've heard (and seen, to my misfortune) Croatia's entry the last time I was home. It's disgusting!

Pop is cr@p, but it still beats hip-hop and a paedophilic pseudo-rapper, so yeah, glad they didn't get a good ranking.

If anyone still cares about Metallica, they released the name of their new album: Death Magnetic. Any thoughts?

 

Interesting title I guess. I like what I've heard so far.

 

I'm not to fond of them, but it will be interesting listening to their new stuff. I'll probably laugh at it, because Metallica is not what it once was, but hey you never kow. They might still surprise us. *shrug*
