AOTC IMAX LFL/Fan Force Joint Party

Okay, this is exactly what I was talking about in the Next Meeting thread.


LFL is recruiting help from tf.n's Fan Force to make the Grand Opening of IMAX AOTC a hit! They want us to work with them by organizing a Big Las Vegas Party. The details are that the opening weekend, starting with Nov 1st, should be a huge deal, and with LFL's Bantha Tracks #0 as a giveaway, it shouldn't be hard in getting Star Wars fans interested. Here is what they want from us:

1. One or two key contacts from each group who will work with
Lucasfilm (Steve Sansweet and Paul Ens) and the local theater
management directly. The group should be able to demonstrate some
cohesiveness and we'll need some confidence that the leadership is
willing and able to "pull it off".

2. During opening show/day/weekend (this may vary by region),
administer an exclusive Lucasfilm-provided give-away to movie
attendees. The nature of this giveaway will be announced soon on
starwars.com.

3. A unique web page per group that will be linked to from
starwars.com. This page should provide all pertinent local details
like links to the theater listings, directions, schedules, event
details, pictures and the like. This may also be a place for you to
"recruit" new membership and participants.

4. Make the opening weekend "fun" - organize costume
contests, meet at a restaurant/watering hole, charity sponsorship,
line up early, have a tail-gate party, etc. We are hoping that some
of the theaters will do late-night screenings on October 31 to allow
you to tie-in with Halloween.

5. Report in for starwars.com: We want starwars.com to spotlight
your efforts and your fun.

6. Be on-going advocates for Clones on IMAX in your area. Any ideas
you have or things you'd like to do beyond opening weekend would be
great.


We need to set up those things and report it back to LFL (C.O. Paul Ens & Steve Sansweet). I know you guys are probably excited about this, and I'll need to elicit some help.


I wonder if you, DarthRaith, would be interested in becoming the Key Contact for our group. I can do all of the notifying, but I need someone who can contact the theater at the Luxor and maybe take calls from LFL. Also, it says we need a webpage for interested parties to log on to to get all the information. It doesn't need to be fancy or big, but nice looking and informative.

We will also need to come up with ideas on how to make the Las Vegas party special. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Now here's the important thing. Once all the requirements are met, we bid for the privilege of being the group that handles this. I'm pretty sure the Henderson Fan Force will be trying too, as will the 501st Neon City Garrison. They will either take one, all, or any number of applicants and have us all work together at it. The sooner we can put things together, the better.


So, how does it sound?

Then I send off an e-mail to Paul Ens giving the website URL, your name, e-mail and phone #, and our ideas about how we can make it special.



Also, we will be in charge of handing out Bantha tracks #0 at every showtime until they are gone... this may be 2 or 3 days! But if we take turns, I don't think it would be a problem. Also, they'd like if we were consumed when we hand them out. Not nessisary, but would be apprieciated.

This is so neat, but they are getting impatient, so lets hurry! (leave it to LFL to wait til the last minute to inform us ... just like the showtimes for AOTC)

Cool! I don't have a costume but I'll wear my Star Wars shirts for sure! The IMAX poster is nice. Anybody think newsmedia coverage would be okay? Its gotta be newsworthy since LFL is involved and the local media did some good ones for the AOTC premiere..maybe the same reporters again?

 

News coverage would be perfect! It would get more SW fans who don't use the internet much more informed!

Okay, I sent off an e-mail to Paul Ens and Steve Sansweet giving them our 'pitch'. I gave them Raith's contact information, the website URL, some suggestions of things we can do, request for suggestions of their's, and above all, thanks for concidering us for this opportunity.

Hopefully we'll hear back from them soon!


Now, down to business!

If they pick us, we will be in charge of making the opening weekend (Nov 1-3) more than just a Star Wars film on a bigger screen. We need to come up with activities and things to keep it interesting.


A Costume Contest sounds easily do-able. I suspect there will be alot of costumed viewers that day.

Any other suggestions?

i know JangoBear is with the Neon City Garrison, but we haven't contacted them about this, no. I don't even know if they're setting anything up.



And BTW, we do need to start discussing just exactly what you think we can handle as far as events for Opening Weekend.

 

I can help hand outthe Bantha tracks newsletters. As for the temp website do you guys have any Vegas-related graphics? The Welcome to Vegas sign would be perfect. This place is known for the Strip so why not entice the public? San Diego and Indiana have cool banners so it'd be great to have one for us! I'm not real knowledgable of websites and don't have Photoshop... When I think of Vegas , Bothans don't really come to mind but hey, you guys voted on that so its cool. Just curious....

 

Is the Neon Garrison involved? I heard from an acquaintance of thiers that Luxor is blowing them off even with Lucasfilm approval? That sucks happy horse poodoo...

 

We have had no contact from anyone at the Neon City Garrision, and we figured that Lucasfilm would have told us if we were supposed to be collaborating, however, we wouldn't mind working with them at all, they seem to have more experiance than we do.

 

Okay, Talon_Wolfe is supposed to contact a rep from the 501st. He's going to see what they have planned for Friday. Here are the showtimes for Friday, November 1st:

1pm, 4:15pm, 7:30pm and 10pm


Since it occurs to me, and the Henderson guys as well, that people will have to work on that day, we should make either 7:30 or 10pm the OFFICIAL FAN FORCE SHOWING.

We need to find out if the 501st are going to be at every showing, or they too want to choose a later showing for all the festivities.

All those comming in costume remember that Luxor will not allow masks on the casino floor. If you park in the garage at the back and come in through the bridge, then take the escalator to the attractions level, the IMAX will end up being on the immediate left. Talon figures that you can wear a mask if you take this route, as you will avoid the casino area.

Since the LAFF guys are comming for the 10:00 show, do you think we should hold off until that show to do anything major?



Darth Raith or kampilan, or both, will you contact the various local news stations and see if we can get media coverage for this? Also the next Las Vegas Weekly comes out Thursday... maybe they'll want to run a little something. Can you contact them?

 

I'll go call Fox 5 and News 3 tomorrow but e-mail them tonight.

Is there anything from the Lucasfilm reps(Sansweet, etc) that I should mention other than what we can read here in the forum?

Friday is a good night to fit people's scheds...the LAFF are goin to the 10pm show? Henderson and Neon Garrison still undecided? Any plans for Saturday as well?

I don't have a costume but people that do should indeed go in them!

 

As far as I know, Henderson is shooting for 7:30, but I know that Protoss (if he has to work) can't make it to the Luxor until 8:30-9:00, so I'm trying to coordinate it so either Henderson waits til 10 or they go at 7:30 and again at 10. So far there's no word.

I get off around 5 so I can make the 7 or 10 showing. I can help pass out the Bantha Tracks if we got 'em.

Still no word from the media guys. Guess the Nordstrom opening is more powerful than we can possibly imagine!

 

Yeah, no problem. I think we'll get some media coverage on this thing. So 10:00pm is the official Las Vegas Fan Force showing, though the Henderson guys may go earlier.

 

I'll be there for the 10pm show! I'll be wearing a brown Aayla Secura fan shirt.

So I take it you received the Bantha Tracks already? Cool.

Were you able to contact some of the media? That's great because I wasn't able to ...

 

I and another guy will be there at 1 PM, then most of Henderson (who goes) will go at the 7, and some of us will stay till the 10 so we can meet people, but we may not stay until the end of the flick.
