I can't believe it's already been a year since we went apple picking! Because October is looking to be a bit busy, it's been decided that we'll do some apple picking in September instead.

    Riley's Farm - Oak Glen
    September 20th - 10:00 a.m.
    BYOP (Bring your own picnic)

    Check out their site here.

As it's nearly impossible to find a place to eat without an hour's wait at this time of year, we thought it would be fun if we all just brought our own lunches and had a picnic when we got hungry. Maybe that way, we can hit up a few of the shops before leaving.

Let's all try to meet at the same side of the farm this time! [face_laugh]

Here are the directions from the site:

From Los Angeles & Points West: Take the I-10 or the I-60 towards Palm Springs. Exit on Beaumont Avenue. Turn Left and proceed approximately nine miles, until you see the sign that reads "Welcome to Oak Glen." (Beaumont Ave./Road will become Oak Glen Road.) Look for the large, red-lettered "Riley's Farm" sign on the right hand side of the road.

Riley's Farm - Oak Glen Road Entrance. (Do not use the Mile High Entrance)

But do they offer that stuff in September? From the site it looks like they are doing that for the summer.

Would anyone be willing to give me a ride if I'm able to go?

We're leaving for a three week three state trip on the 31st here and will be back on the 18th of Sept, just in time for our IEFF annual apple picking get together / meeting.

Was curious to know about when were we doing the meeting part and where? I didn't see that it was posted as of yet or maybe it was and I didn't see it. :)

9:00 a.m. on the other side of the farm than we were last year. BYOP (Bring Your Own Picnic) I think I'm going to Google Earth it before heading out this time!

    9am meeting?

Are we eating together as a group at a picnic location or whenever anyone gets hungry, they can just eat as they want?

    :)

Thr main farm has picnic tables & benches between the main buildings, where you pay for everything and the orchard. There is also a big raspberry field and pumpkin patch... 8-} but anyway, I was hoping we'd pick apples/berries first then sit at the tables and picnic. But I'm sure you could eat at your leisure. I'm looking up the pictures we took last year with Bill, Sandy & the girls to show everyone. It is a REALLY big place, but we had no trouble finding eachother out front of the main barn area, which is sort of the "front" of the main farm area. I know that sounded totally confusing. I'll look for a map to post with my pictures...

9am, your kidding right? Says 10am in the first post. If it's 9am i'll just skip the meeting bit and meet y'all at 10.

Why not just meet in the parking lot?

There is a map on the site here just click on "directions" on the left then click on the map to make it bigger. There is a parking lot by the colonial area and another by the homestead, homestead is closer to the apples.

Why don't we meet, pick apples, and have the meeting while we are picnicing? It would make sense with the flow of the activity instead of going back and forth on the "homestead". And we can munch on our apples while we meet!:D
The colonial villiage is down the hill from the main area and the apples. We parked there last year and that was a mistake. Bill & Sandy parked at the top of the hill, luckies! It's not big deal to park at the colonial village, but it is a trek to get to the "activities". I ended up leaving my girls with Sandy & Bill and walked down to get the car, drove it back up the hill to pick them up.
But I guess we should consider ourselves lucky if we don't have to park on the street as many people have to then walk to the gate then up the hill.

    HEY!!!
I just looked at the link to the map Stuart posted, brilliant BTW! Last year we met at "J" in front of the packing house. It is a logical place to meet. You'll see when you get there. Also the picnic tables are on the Heritage Homestead lawn between "Q & L". Do your best to park up the hill.

    Here's the bottom line:

    We meet at 10:00,
    pick apples,
have some fun until we're hungry,
eat and do a quick meeting,
    go have some more fun.

    Sound like a plan?
