Joe wasn't exactly well-versed in geography, so he wasn't sure how long the flight would be. He figured that it wouldn't take too long, as they weren't going far. Ah well, Joe had been on worse flights. This was relativly empty, and thankfully quiet. It seemed that every time he was flying, there was a crying baby or screaming kid near him. Joe reached into his bag and pulled out a magazine he had brought with. It was a scientific journal discussing Atlantis. Couldn't hurt to read up on the target. Setting the magazine down on his seat, Joe reached for another book, this one about deep-sea seismic activity. Not exactly entertaining stuff, but it was amazingly informative. Joe cracked open the book and leaned back.

    IC: Deuce Williams
    Fort Bragg

Deuce stretched his arms and yawned as he climbed down the small ramp leading the concrete ground beneath the small white airplane that had carried the crew for only an hour or so. He glanced at his golden Rolex, the time reading nine fifteen. They were right on schedule. He greeted all of the exiting passengers with a routine "Welcome to Fort Bragg," and a flashy smile. The soft wind caused his black suit to billow mildly, and the shining sun beckoned him to cover his eyes with his sunglasses. That he did. Once everyone was off the plane and standing around idly, awaiting further instruction from Deuce, he stepped in front of them all. They were now on a wooden dock, around a hundred yards from the runway, onlooking a prodigious body of water - the Pacific Ocean.

"Attention everyone!" Deuce said as the small amount of conversation came to a prompt halt. Cassey Walker stepped over beside him. "Welcome to Fort Bragg, California. I certainly hope all of you are as anxious as I am to ignite a new epoch. Now it is time to get down to business." Looking over his shoulder, he nodded to a short man in a security guard's uniform. The guard nodded, and spoke into a radio, his voice inaudible. Deuce turned back to the assembled crew. "It is time for me to fulfill my promise, ladies and gentlemen. I told you that you would be traveling in luxury. And now, I give you... Ariel IV!"

Immediately after Deuce's words had ended, a prodigious ship burst out of the water, sending a small tide towards the dock, and spraying a few drops of water on the closer spectators. Deuce smiled as eyes shot wide open, astonished at the beauty of the ship. "My fellow comrades, welcome to your new home." He looked over at Cassey and nodded, a sly grin on his face.

The huge windows that covered the front of the submersible were like nothing Matt had seen before. The Marine life one could see!

Cassey stepped to Deuce's side silently, her hands clasped behind her back. Her curls were let loose from the ponytail she had them in and watched the group look at the two silently. Then Deuce began his speech to introduce the ship, Ariel IV.

The ship suddenly breached the water and rose high until it came to a stop, showing off its beauty and gracefulness, as well as its advantages to going as great speeds and maneuvering. She was beautiful. Cassey stared at her in awe, seeing the ship in real life, in front of her own eyes, was so much better than just looking at pictures given to her by Deuce. The pictures didn't show off her grandeur.

"My fellow comrades, welcome to your new home."

He looked at Cassey and shot her a sly grin. She only watched him quietly, and then glanced back at the ship. Her new home as Deuce had called it. A pensive look cross her eyes as she studied it.

    Ariel IV

Deuce stepped onto the large bridge, the bottoms of his black polished shoes touching down on the smooth red carpet that lied beneath them. He ungainly adjusted the frustrating collar on his somewhat dull black suit with a white napkin hanging out of the left chest pocket, barely visible to an onlooking spectator. Once he was comfortable, he slowly turned to look out of the prodigious viewport, golden-tinted and at the front of the ship. The pilots stood beneath the bridge, working the controls of the submarine and readying the engines.

"Pilot, are we ready?" he called below.

The pilot, a young girl with short brown hair, turned around and looked up at her Captain. "The ship is, sir, but I'm not sure I am."

Deuce chuckled. "I understand. Submerge ship now."

The pilot nodded with a nervous look on her face. She was obviously having second guesses about her decision to embark on this mission. "Yes sir."

And with that, a sight of an endless abyss of blue water replaced the view of the sunny morning. Fish could be seen scurrying away from the ship in schools, and plants could vaguely be seen below. Deuce smiled, his hands clasped behind his back and his eyes gazing outside of the ship. Truly amazing was the aquatic. And truly mysterious. But one thing was for sure, in his mind. Her enigmas were on the verge of being not unlocked, but unleashed.

He turned around to the assembled crew who were currently without jobs. "Welcome to the aquatic, ladies and gentlemen," he said, his deep voice reverberating throughout the capacious area. Verious black leather sofas were scattered throughout the room, alongside an immense walkway of white tile that was surrounded by the same red carpet that was on the bridge. "You are now on the mission that will soon reveal to the world that Atlantis is veritable, and prove the skeptical ones wrong!" The crowd cheered in applause with an occasional whispered. Deuce, in pride, lifted his hands up in a silencing motion as a smile crept up on his tan face. The crowd obeyed. "Now, through the door on your left is the entertainment lounge. There you will find arcade games, televisions, video games, and any other things that you could possibly want to lay back and enjoy." He saw a few men begin whispering and their anxiousness growing. Duece doubted not that they were eager for his speech to end. "Beside that door is the cafeteria, where some of the world's finest chefs are cooking up a myriad amount of food for your enjoyment. And through the door on your right leads to the rooms where you will be living for however long this assignment takes. As you entered the ship, you were given a card with a three digit number. That is your room number, and the door with the matching number on the front is your room. The card also serves as a key. To enter your room, you must slide the card in the slot beside your door. Now, you are dismissed. Are there any questions?"

As Deuce patiently waited for arriving questions, many crew members left the scene to travel to their desired area. Most of the men went to the entertainment lounge and cafeteria, while the women strolled to the corridors to choose their own room. He heard some men yipping and hollering in the entertainment lounge, most likely at the sight of a playable Halo 3 demo, unavailable anywhere else except Ariel.

As he continued to wait for questions, he turned on his heel, walking off of the bridge, surmising that there were no further questions from his comrades. He was mistaken, however, as Marcus Anthony strolled up to him.

"Excuse me sir," he said in a low voice. "We don't have weapons. Not that it is pertinent, but I am extremely curious; will we be supplied with some? We don't know what could be down here and..."

Deuce held up his hand. "I assure you my friend, this ship is equipped with a definitive weapons system, the most powerful in the history of submarines. Also, we do have weapons on board as well, if such an occasion rises that they need to be used. But as of now, they are in a concealed location for safety purposes." He straightened his back slightly. "Do you have any more questions, Mister Anthony?"

"Actually, just one: what happened to Ariels one through three?" he continued.

If this was the fourth of the ships to be made, why had their been three that could not be used? What did that say about the engineering?

"Two things, Mr. Williams, if you don't mind," he said after raising his hand.

    Deuce nodded. "Continue."

"Actually, just one: what happened to Ariels one through three?"

Deuce raised an eyebrow. This was a good question, and he smiled. "Ah, excellent question my friend. Ariel Four is the fourth edition to a series of tests. The estimated depth of Atlantis can not be withstood by any ordinary submarine, so we conducted tests on three ships, Ariels one, two, and three. The quality of the three improved as each test was conducted, but none prevailed. The fourth ship was to be our last test. If it failed, then the mission would not be ensued. But this ship, Ariel Four, succeeded." Deuce smiled and waited for a possible response.

Cassey took the key card handed to her by a man in a uniform and then followed the path way to their quarters, slowly and silently walking down the hallway, her green eyes scanning each number for her own room.

    Anytime now...

Finally the three numbers on her key card matched with the numbers above the door. She slid the card into it and then opened up the door. The room looked like it had been decorated just for her with rich, silk blue blankets on the bed, blue furniture here and there, and some silky drapes near the corner. She wondered if Duece had asked for this for a reason while stepping inside and closing the door behind her.

Well, one thing's for sure... I'll definitely be sleeping well with those blankets.

Cassey laughed at the thought and then set her bags down. There was a small closet in the corner with a rack made for hanging up clothes, she decided on putting them up later, now was for exploring.

She pulled her hair back into a pony tail and then left her room once more, sliding her keycard into the back pocket of her jeans and wondered around slowly, her green eyes taking in anything and everything.

Deuce looked on as all of the crew left and either went to find their designated living area, watch television in the entertainment lounge, or grab a bite at the cafeteria, where the chefs were finishing off their amazing dishes, garnishing them to make them look even more spectacular. Deuce felt his stomach give a slight growl as well, but things such as food could wait for a man like him, when the time wasn't so significant. He climbed down to the lower deck where the pilots sat, controlling the ship and submerging it deeper into the ocean, to where sunlight could not be seen and only the endless abyss of water engulfed the exterior of Ariel IV.

"How're we doing?" he asked the main pilot, an aging man with a grey beard.

The man kept his eyes looking through the viewport as he spoke to his Captain. "We're making excellent progress, sir. Not a single interference."

Deuce flashed a smile. "That's good news. As you were."

He began to walk towards the cafeteria to regale his famished stomach, but was interrupted from an abrupt quirk in the ship. "What the-? Pilot, what's going on!?"

The pilot, sweat already dripping from his wrinkled forehead, looked back at the Captain, fear in his eyes. "Sir, an unidentified object just appeared on our scopes seconds ago, and came into contact with Ariel."

"What came into contact with the ship?" Deuce asked impatiently. He noticed crew members panicing in the large area of the ship. That was all they needed - disturbances.

"Sir, we do not know. The only thing that is certain is that it is... big."

"How big!?" Deuce cried. "Like a couple of whales?"

"Uh... well," the pilot hesitated. "I'd say a more accurate comparison would be a cruiseship."

Deuce's jaw dropped, and he stood speechless as the ship tilted side to side. Something brown had just swam across the viewport. And something unbelievably large. "Ready the pods," he said. "Fire up torpedoes. I have a bad feeling about this."

Cassey decided to check out the lounge area, after having a small meal prepared by fine cooks. They made it look and taste like something you'd get at a extremely fancy place. She would enjoy being able to eat like that for a while.

Her green eyes scanned the hallway as she pulled her glasses off and tucked them into her curly hair. Now this was a fine ship... that was an understatement. It was amazing! She really couldn't believe they were going to discover Atlantis. Her dreams and hopes when she was younger were finally coming true and she all owed it to her parents.

Cassey soon entered the lounge area. A few people were already there, who she nodded her acknowledgment to as she passed by. She found an empty couch and laid down on it, pulling out her iPod from the pocket of her thick jacket. She slid the large headphones on and turned it on, her foot finding the beat and tapping to it.

The woman, lying on the couch, closed her eyes and allowed herself to sink into a peaceful state, breathing slowly, and relaxing, thinking about absolutely nothing. She did this to clear her mind for studying symbols.

Within several minutes a jolt rocked the ship suddenly. Cassey's eyes flashed open and she jerked up from a laying to a sitting. She looked around, pausing her music as the adrenaline kicked in, rushing through her entire body.

    What's happening?!

"Stay clam and stay where you are." Cassey ordered the people who were in the lounge as she yanked her headphones off and got up, heading toward the exit. When she peered around the doorway several people were either walking or rushing to find out what was going on

"Return back to wherever you came from. We can't crowd the control room." She said in a firm voice, watching them until they slowly turned around, going back to what they were doing. The captain and the pilots didn't need more distractions.

Cassey instantly rushed to the control room and ran to Deuce.

    "What's happening?"

Total and absolute silence filled the area as Cassey Walker had helped calm the crew. Since the brief revealing of the... thing through the viewport, there were no signs of its existence. Everyone stood, silent and inert as a stone, there eyes darting every which way waiting for another jolt from the ship as it finally halted its swaying.

"Where is it?" Deuce asked the Pilot.

The Pilot looked at the green radar. "It is still there," the Pilot's voice was shaky as he spoke. "Notice the marker of it is twice as large as Ariel's. But it is inert, as we know of. It hasn't moved in approximately twenty-two seconds. Our torpedoes only shoot directly ahead, and it is on the side of our ship. We are reluctant to rotate the ship in fear of alarming the... creature."

Deuce stood for a moment, thinking. "Are the pods ready?" he asked.

The Pilot nodded. "Yes sir, awaiting deployment now."

Deuce nodded. "Good." He turned around to find Joe and Cassey stroding up to him.

    "What's happening?" Cassey asked.

"We're not sure," Deuce said as he took out a napkin from his shirt pocket and dabbed it on his sweaty forehead. "Some kind of creature twice as large as this ship just hit us. We're not sure if it was intentional or not, but as of now it is floating right next to us. I suggest you stay alert. In the meantime, get Anthony, Klu, Thomas, Zurovich, Williams, Winston, and Smith to the pods. Explain the controls to them, as I think they may be able to fend off the creature, giving us enough time to escape." He nodded, and turned back to the pilots.

In the meantime, get Anthony, Klu, Thomas, Zurovich, Williams, Winston, and Smith to the pods. Explain the controls to them, as I think they may be able to fend off the creature, giving us enough time to escape."

Cassey nodded quickly and instantly ran out of the control room. She searched the hallways and the lounge room, and knocking on the doors for Anthony, Klu, Thomas, Zurovich, Williams, Winston, and Smith. Each person she'd find, she tell them to follow her and she'd explain everything when she gathered everyone.

Within minutes, she had the group gathered in the launch bay, several pods surrounded the area, which were on special pads that would open to eject them into the ocean, and soon return back through it. The group of people circled her so she could see each one and make sure they all understand what they were needed to do.

"Alright, people." She started quickly, making sure they were all silent. "You may have noticed a jolt in the ship. That's because there is some... creature out there that's about twice as big as the ship you're currently on. It's right next to us, and we have stopped moving to make sure it doesn't know we're still here." She went on quickly, not giving the listeners a chance to talk about it. "We have a task for you all, which you may think is foolish and risky, but we need to have it done in order for us all to get out of here... alive."

Cassey pointed to the pods and continued on. "Each of you will have your own pods, as you can see it only fits one person per pod." She went to one and opened the hatch, letting the viewers look inside while she sat down on the pilot's seat, trying to show them how to work the controls.

"You see this control panel here? It will direct your pod. Move the stick to the left, and it'll go left. Move it right, it'll go right. Pull it back and it will go up, push it forward, and you'll go down. When you close this hatch the wall inside will fade to transparent to allow you full view of where you're going and what you're doing. Now... this red trigger right here," she said pointing to the trigger, "yes it is real, will shot out a laser that can tear through a lot. It's not a toy."

Cassey exited out of the pod, keeping one foot on the small ladder climbing up to the pod's hatch.

"Your task is to go out there and destroy the creature blocking our path... Any questions?"
