Went to the local Sainsburys this morning for the weekly shop. The BBQ/Summer section is now Christmas wine/candy/stocking stuffers etc. It's not even Halloween yet!
Anyone else seeing early signs of Christmas?

I saw some of the Annuals at WH Smith last week - they were on 'buy one, get another for £1'. I did look at the SW and Doctor Who ones but I passed.

And today I got a Lakeland Christmas catalog in the post.

I assume that's an artificial tree..

OK - your pub wins the earliest Christmas tree contest..

My mum saw some Christmas stuff a few weeks ago. It was only those 'Christmas saver' catalogues and such where people browse through and then spread the cost out. I don't mind that so much as there are people who can't afford to have all the cost at once but want to get nice gifts or have a lot of gifts to get. A tree though? The only Christmas tree I'll allow at any other time is a bright pink and sparkley one, because that's about as un-Christmasy as you can get.

I gave up on trees when I had cats. The process of picking up ornaments and lights from the floor after they knocked the tree down didn't appeal to me. The cats are gone now :( but I still haven't done a tree. Don't really have room (and I don't have kids so I can't really see the point).

I've always had trees despite owning cats, a good base makes it pretty hard to knock over and we place all the unbreakable at the bottom in case they are knocked off.
That being said, none of my cats has ever climbed up a Christmas Tree.

So funny, but I was just thinking this as I watched a commercial for PetSmart's Holiday sale and realized that the last time I entered a store, they already had Christmas trees displayed (about a week ago). I remember saying to myself, "Jeez! Halloween hasn't even happened yet and they have Christmas stuff out already!"

Yep - local Argos had an artificial tree up when I passed by earlier this week. It might have just been a sale display as it hadn't been decorated yet.

Actually I know there are people that stock up on Christmas cards, decorations, wrapping paper etc when the post-Christmas sales start. So I guess for them it could start in January..

I'm an excessively excitable person about the Christmas period (my tree is already up) but the adverts in particular make me want to beat anyone who works in advertising to death with a candy cane

I particularly loathe any where there are stage managed family shenanigans e.g. an actor poorly made up in goth make-up being disapproved of by a ridiculously stern grandfather but bonding over rubbish cracker jokes, or somehow a 'mother' (always referred to as such even because once women have children this is the only role they occupy) doing absolutely everything for her layabout family but that being fine because turkey-based satisfaction compensates for patriarchy.

They wind me up so much I want to un-invite the in-laws and just have a cheese sandwich and watch Doctor Who with massive noise cancelling headphones with my middle finger constantly raised at anyone who may approach with a mince pie or glass of port

All I want from a Christmas advert is to be informed where the best value stuffing is on sale and then leave the emotional resonance of the holiday to me rather than having the joy sucked out of it by filtering it through an inherently joyless money-making machine designed to manipulate

I have no issue with commercialisation, spend your little hearts out if that's what makes people happy, just the commercials

Bought my (frozen) turkey today at Sainsburys. Figured I'd get it before the feeding frenzy starts. I took a wander into town after that (early morning) and it was already busy in the shops. I haven't seen any Christmas adverts so far that I've liked.

Now it feels like Christmas - I've had my annual viewing of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
