CT Cloaking devices in Star Wars . Exactly how do they work anyway?

    So how do cloak devices work for ships anyway in Star Wars? People in other ships can still see the other darn ship so what the hell?

    I always believed it was (and in my personal canon, it still is) a device that made the ship with it invisible to radars or other detection devices. But as seen in the EU, it turns out it's a device that creates an invisibility cloak. You actually can't see the ship with it.

    I think TCW (second season) illustrates one in action fairly well.

    For a purely technical explanation you can look up how the Star Trek cloaks work. I'm sure they're not all that different in operation, and since they're used used much more often in that universe there will probably more information on them.

    Ehh...doubt it. The first EU to really explain cloaks pretty deliberately limited their abilities to keep them from being a plot monkey.
