FF:NZ David Bowie to come to New Zealand!

Never said I wouldn't, in fact I did say she has talent. It's gonna be great seeing Bowie live for two hours!

Your comment reminds me of a Pearl Jam (when they were good) concert I went to, the opening act were horrible sure but we waited for them to get offstage patiently, however one young man wasn't happy, he crowd surfed and pulled the fingers at the singer of the opening band then jump off the crowd-wave and almost hit the singer in the face with his finger raised hand! They guy fell into the pit by the safety barrier and was escorted out of there. Crazy how people can react to opening gigs.

Almost forgot, Ms. Fraser was to open for Goldenhorse back on Jan 10th, I only heard about the concert at the last minute and managed to arrive after Fraser had played, but everyone there was saying how good she was (everyone being the two or three people at an eavesdrop distance away).

So in closing I wasn't bashing Fraser, just saying that it's gonna make it a long wait until Bowie plays (btw, it's a prestigious honour to open for Bowie, will look great on her CV).

 

New Zealand crowds can be pretty mean to support acts. The Brunettes, who are in my opinion the best pop band in NZ right now, got heckled and booed at Gene Pitney. Damien Binder was treated in a similar manner at Marianne Faithful.

That being said, I'm surprised that someone so earnest and folky is the spoort band ... I would have thought a full band in a more pop/rock genre (like, say, Augustino) would have been more appropriate.

Still ... am looking forward to seeing Brooke anyway. I don;t have the album but the songs I've heard are pretty good.

Well, I've read great things about the Tokey Tones albums...

 

I went into Borders today, and while I was innocently browsing the geek magazines, I looked up to find Bowie staring fixedly at me. Scary huh? Some magazine (Mojo, I think) seem to have done an issue devoted to him in tribute, so naturally, he covered the cover.

 

Borders is the main reason why I want to go back up to Auckland, that place is godly! Will have to go hunt down that Mojo! Thanks for the Heads-up!

 

I can now die a happy man, that was incredible.

the gig was amazing ... one of those situations where, as soon as it starts, the awful weather ceases to matter. He played an amazing set, and his band sounded great. I'm writing a review in my LiveJournal, and I'll post it here when it's done.

On the Brooke Fraser board on of her fans commented how cool it was that Bowie played a Nirvana cover, which I thought was pretty funny.

Yes, I corrected him.

It's funny ... there was a guy behind me who said, of "The Man Who Sold The World" that half the audience would be thinking Bowie, and the other half Nirvana.

He _did_ play a Pixies cover, ("Cactus") and all of the best Nirvana songs blatantly ripped off Pixies anyway.

 

Cactus is on Heathen, right?

yeah, "Cactus" is on "Heathen".

In the lead up to the Bowie gig I went through my Bowie collection pretty thoroughly, and am convinced that "Heathen" is as good as alost anything he made in the 1970s. "Reality" is not _quite_ as good, but still excellent and far better than anything any of his contemporaries is currently making.

Quite like "Waterloo Sunset", although not as much as The Kinks' version. But then, I'm quite an obsessive Kinks fan too ... I do like to cover of The Modern Lovers' "Pablo Picasso" on that LP though, mainly 'cause it's so different to the original.
