Your oil process photos look hazy like mist from the Force vortex!

I like how your pencil lines work these days, sweet bird. By the way, I had not finished updating when you caught me in my garden. Due to generous Sinterklaas presents I was able to to some acrylic paintings.

I like the lighting on this image, it gives it a dramatic feel. Though, he looks worried, like he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

Curious... have you considered experimenting with different drawing styles? If not, I recommend doing so some day, as it will help with developing a unique style. Try all sorts of styles, from Disney to classic Marvel (Jack Kirby's work), to even anime. Play around with other sketch card art styles and use aspects from Jan Duursema's work and Doug Wheatley's style. It's pretty fun to experiment and sometimes, what comes out of it can surprise you. And, yes, even cartoon styles can help with nailing down a realistic style.

Your linework is nice; it's got good, steady control. However, I have found that your artistic style tends to be a little lean on mass and light in tone (i.e., it could benefit from darker lines). Volumetric shading would give your work some depth.

Also, it seems as though you're using the standard No. 2 pencil. When I took a basic drawing class in college, the teacher told us about the different kinds of pencils and what they can do; I suggest getting a variety of artistic pencils; the harder graphite produces fine, crisp lines while the softer ones can be used for shading.

Very nice! You did a good job with the detail in their coats, particularly the fur on their hoods.

What sort of pencils do you actually use? I never asked before?

Thank you for the recommendations. I have used the comic style and pencil sketches are mostly used for larger works in oil.

Thank you. I have just the 0.5HB pencil leads and will see if I can get some different ones.

Heh, I use the same type of pencil. Cheap Pentech mechanical pencil with 0.5 HB leads. It's a nice density for drawing, and as it is always nice and sharp, it's perfect for linework and detailing.

I haven't used other pencils, except for larger drawings. Then I actually break out the other pencils for shading after the initial drawing is done with my mechanical pencil, and then finished off with the same pencil. But, 0.5 HB mechanical pencil is just fine for drawing.
