    BBC Studios, Salis D'aar, Bakura

“Has anybody seen Lun?” Aerax Skytrayn asked as her makeup got touched up for a last time.

“No, he was supposed to be here an hour ago.”

“Aerax, you’re just gonna have to do the segment yourself,” the station manager said.

Aerax took several deep breaths. “Okay, okay, I can do this.”

“And we’re live in five, four…”

The introduction music played and Aerax steeled herself for her first solo live broadcast.

“From the BBC Studios in the capital, this is News from the Pitch,” the voiceover came on.

“Good day. I’m Aerax Skytrayn,” Aerax said, “Today’s top story is the ongoing search for the next Miners head coach after GM Quinn Cundertol declined to resign John Talley to an extension. Cundertol has been extremely tightlipped during the process and is reportedly even interviewing candidates in secret to avoid media attention. However, a highly credible source in the Miners organization has provided what is claimed to be Cundertol’s short list for head coach candidates, which we will reveal for the first time today.

“First of all, there are several candidates that Cundertol was reportedly interested but have already been dropped. To the surprise of this reporter, Aileen Wynn was foremost among the eliminated candidates and was on Cundertol’s radar when he first took the job and apparently attempted to unseat Talley with a year left on his contract. However, Wynn’s recent trainwreck of a performance at Coruscant has reportedly soured Cundertol on the former Miners’ bench boss.

“Hexton Cordell, long time Chandrila A&M coach, was also approached, but flatly declined to be interviewed for the position given how content he is at A&M.

“But most surprisingly is the fact that Templeton Peck of The Ord Saboak University impressed Cundertol during a scouting trip. Peck’s name was dropped after he was found collapsed in his home after being named the new, permanent StarBucks coach.

“That brings us to the candidates still on the short list for one of the most prestigious head coach positions in the galaxy,” Aerax said. She paused for dramatic effect.

“To the surprise of no one, Robbard Mc’Alpine, who has overseen the Bakura Fleet Academy’s dominance of Bak10 Limmie, is heading the list. Mc’Alpine has repeatedly said that he has no intention of leaving the Academy, but sources familiar with the situation have indicated that a personal plea from Chancellor Trieste could change Mc’Alpine’s mind if he was, and I quote, ‘asked to serve Bakura’, end quote.

“Next on the list comes a name that has been bandied about in the last two Miner coaching changes. Margene Hedford of UBSD is currently in the running again for the head coach vacancy. While Hedford has yet to win a Bak10 title for the Bears, she is one of the weaker candidates. However, insiders are saying that given that Kerry Trieste is a former player for the Bears, Hedford could mount a surprise victory and get the call. Hedford runs a fast-paced offense that could play to the personnel strengths of the Miners. However, it has been well documented that Quinn Cundertol keeps his own counsel. It seems very unlikely, in this reporter’s opinion at least, that Cundertol would take Hedford solely for her UBSD link.

“Perhaps unsurprisingly, Bryan Cluff of UBTV is also on the list. Cluff’s dark dewback run to the Carnation Bowl is the talk of the planet and made Cluff one of the biggest personalities in Bakuran sports. Undeniably talented, one wonders whether Cluff would make a good Elite League head coach given that his success has come in conjunction with Petr Taylurr, who has largely handled player recruitment, a function that Cundertol would handle as GM. Given Cluff’s brash personality, this reporter wonders whether Cundertol would hire Cluff after the acrimonious breakup with Talley. It seems that unity would be the preferred order of the day in the Miners organization.

“On those notes, OC Keyan Staven is getting a thorough look from Cundertol as a possible successor. Staven performed admirably as offensive coordinator under Talley and is viewed as a rising mind in the League. Staven is said to have a demanding leadership style that accepts no excuses and demands only results.

“The biggest surprise of all on the short list is another internal candidate, Midfield Coach Gaeriel Valerii. Valerii, according to one source, went to Cundertol and asked to be considered. Widespread reports have confirmed that Valerii pushed Talley to move Rodders back to the Full Forward position, a position that he excelled at when playing for UBSD. His play at Full Forward was instrumental in the Miners finishing the season with two wins, including over the Mando’ade Mercs. Additionally, Valerii has been influential in the development of the Miners’ captain, Alana Glencross. As a former player, Valerii won both the Salbukk and Numifolis Awards and served as captain of the Miners during their last championship in 259. All of this makes her sound like another great Miner head coach: Dana Roslyn. However, Valerii has the least experience by far of anyone on the shortlist and is the longest shot given her short coaching tenure and total lack of anything approaching the responsibilities of a head coach.

“The next Miners’ head coach will depend on how much risk Cundertol is willing to take. This reporter sees a very definite spectrum of risk. The safest choice is, without question, Mc’Alpine due to his extensive Bak10 experience. Margene Hedford comes next thanks to her experience, even if she does not have a championship for her efforts. Staven has familiarity with the players and would be moderately risky, but he also possesses huge upside. Bryan Cluff, who would have to be joined by Taylurr, has solid credentials with a Bak10 championship under his belt, but his grating personality makes this a high-risk, but high-reward choice. Valerii is the most untested and therefore biggest bet of them all. Cundertol, who by all accounts is a calculating being, will make his choice based on his own metrics, though Mc’Alpine seems his likely selection if the Chancellor can win him over. Indeed, it is only because of his incredible dedication to service that he has not been snapped up by another team by now.

“We’ll be right back with an interview with T.K. of the Miners after this message."

Head Coach’s office, Grande Villa, Rydonni Prime

It had been a long week for the entire Monarchs organization. The players were recovering from the mixed feelings of losing their final game to Nar Shaddaa, but still winning the Chancellor’s Cup. Some were wrapped up in the excitement of the Collegiate Limmie season, watching as the University of Kuat took down the University of Bakura, Telaan Valley in the Carnation Bowl. Meanwhile some others spent the entire week watching game holos of the last week.

Setarcos could not help but laugh at the irony that with the way the end of the season shook out, they would be playing at home this week, but they would also be playing the Smugglers once again. The other irony to the situation was the fact that when they beat the Smugglers they would be travelling to Nar Shaddaa for the Galactic Cup.

Normally the Head Coach would have his concentration completely on preparing for the match, but not this week. Everyday there were more and more reports of terrorism happening on the border planets around the Republic, the majority happening out near the Unknown Region. Even as he finalized his gameplan, HoloNetNew broke in and reported that there had been a coordinated attack on four Ordnance/Regional Depots and two shipyards.

Tensions around the league were on the rise, not only because of the playoffs but because of these obvious attacks on the Republic. Setarcos wondered what the Chancellor was going to do and what her decision could mean for his squad.

Dubya_Scott, yes, it's painful for me to use this without either of us being in the playoffs. Bonus rolls to Coruscant, Nar Shaddaa, Onderon, Rydonni Prime.

The Smugglers will become the first team of the Kayl'hen Era to play a Galactic Cup Final in front of their own fans. Ironically, they will have to use the visitor's facilities and experience how terrible it is for the rest of us to have to use them every two years. [face_laugh]

The scoreboard said it all. 22-14 Rough Riders. It was like the weight of the galaxy was off Zeke's shoulders.

The Rough Riders had played the best game ever as a team. Everything was working for them going full speed with no signs of stopping. They were a team on a mission.

The Ball was shot down the field the seconds ticking closer and closer to the moment Zeke had dreamed of for his entire life. 10.... 9.... 8............ Freknok kicked the ball to one of the forwards, who pulled a double move on the Vornskr defender, then doing a blind pass to the other forward to who shot it in as the clock hi 00:00. Final score 22-14. Rough Riders had pulled the upset.

Zeke fell to his knees with tears in his eyes as he saw his team rushing out onto the field. He ran up and and embraced his head coach as the team crowded around them at midfield. "We did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Yes we did Barbosa", said Mothker, "I'm so proud of you. You can finally build your legacy just like your father."

Little did Barbosa know the hard Times were about to begin with their championship opponent being the Onderon Crazy Dragons with his secret crush and feelings for the Dragons Star player Jenna right around the corner.

    GM Friendly Reminder

The Elite League awards will be announced on Wednesday in advance of the Galactic Cup Final. As a result, please have all of your votes to me by the end of day on Tuesday. The majority of the League has voted, but not everybody. To entice current non-voters, there are some awards that are currently tied. Your vote could break a tiebreak...or create new ones in other awards. You never know. ;)

    Jenna Leed
    Great Iziz Field GCLA Semi-Finals

No matter what she did Jenna couldn’t shake the Kuat defender. Sure she was able to make a couple of goals, but she was covered like a baby in a blanket. Jenna would weave in and out hoping that the opponent would be a step behind. She got lucky a few times and got past her opponents only to have them catching up at top speed.

“Run faster Jenna you can do it” she said to herself as she huffed and puffed all the way to the goal post. She scored! This pulled the Crazy Dragons within four behind Kuat. Jenna called for a time out.

“Come on you guys were catching up. We need to score a few more times but time is running out on clock. So let’s go full force and don’t stop. Are you with me” Jenna shouted out.

    "YEAH LET’S GO!"

Jenna was happy that she got the team fired up. It was crucial that they remained focused during the last minutes of the game if they were going to win.

The crazy Dragons were on fire scoring to tie the game and getting turnovers from their opponents. Everything was going their way. The Crazy Dragons now had the lead. They were up 25-20 with only fifty seconds left on the regulation clock.

Kuat had the ball and they were charging down the field. The Kuat half back made some nifty moves that faked Jenna out, which made her slide. The Kuat player ran past Jenna and ran toward the goal. With a hard kick the Kuat player shot the ball toward the goal post. The Crazy Dragons goalkeeper Brad Pamjer had an adrenaline rush and was ready for the ball as he narrowly tipped off course. Just then the game was over the clock had expired.

Jenna couldn’t believe it they won, the Crazy Dragons were going to the finals. Jenna ran around the field with excitement until she was tackled hugged by her teammate Kit Barnes, making Jenna fall to the ground. She didn’t care cause she was the happiest she could be. Others came and jumped on them creating a pile of bodies laughing and whooping.

When they finally got up they headed straight to the locker room and started to pour the champagne over each other in celebration. Jenna’s uniform was all wet, but she didn’t care. They had won and now they set their eyes on the finals. Jenna learned that Zeke’s team the Ryloth Rough Riders had won their game. That meant she would be seeing him again as opponents.

She was rough on him the last time they played each other. She was in denial when she told him that she didn’t like him. In fact she had a major crush on him and didn’t know how to express it. Maybe she should comm him and apologize. After she finished taking a shower and getting dressed, she commed Zeke.

“Hello Zeke congratulations on your win.”

Jenna commed Zeke to congratulate him and apologize for her behavior the day they met. It wasn’t easy but Jenna knew she had to swallow her pride. She didn’t know how to tell Zeke that she had a crush on him. He probably hates her, especially since she was quite rude to him.

“Um I just wanted to say congratulations and apologize to the way I acted last time we talked.”

There s said and now butterflies were in her stomach. She was so nervous she wanted hide under a rock, but she continued on talking.

“So we are gonna play each other again at the Finals. Good luck to you …..” She said awkwardly.

    GM...ish Post

    The GM Part
    Elite League offices, Coruscant

The boardroom that had not so long ago been used for a meeting of the Board of Governors was once again seeing use. Hard to believe though it might be, this time it was almost for a much more clandestine purpose. Indeed, the decisions that would be made by this group of beings would have reverberations that, to those with foreknowledge, could prove highly profitable. As a result, the Elite League took every step it could to keep the deliberations private.

For today was a meeting of the Membership Committee, the group that made recommendations to the Commissioner on what teams would stay in the League, what teams would join it, and what teams would leave it. Though the Commissioner had final say, the Committee had great influence in culling through all of the professional Limmie teams in the galaxy to find ones that were worthy of playing for the Galactic Cup of Limmie.

The chair of the Committee was none other than General Counsel Esther Gondorf.

"Good morning," Gondorf said as she took her seat at the conference table. It was, perhaps curiously, the exact same seat that Beskaryc Taab had occupied some weeks prior, "As a result of the Senators scandal that has put a current member team into bankruptcy, the Commissioner believes that the Membership Committee needs to perform in-depth work in this session to ascertain, specifically, the financial health of all teams recommended to participate in the 271 season. The League has chosen to exercise its ability to review the books of each team pursuant to the bylaws and I now make that information available to you.

"Additionally, as you are aware, the Commissioner has made it clear that she is open to the possibility of expansion in the event that there are enough suitable teams for the 271 season," Gondorf continued, "With that being said, let us begin with the current Elite League teams. I am always in favor of alphabetical order so that would bring us to Bakura first..."

    The ...ish Part
Republican High Command Briefing Room, Coruscant

"Admiral, I am tired of hearing excuses," Chancellor Trieste said from her spot at the head of the table, "I'm failing to grasp why the Fourth Fleet is having such trouble with this problem."

The Republican border with the Unknown Regions had seen a significant uptick in pirate activity--some where labeling it terrorism, a term that Trieste had directed official bodies to steer away from for the moment--in the last month. What had been a statistical anomaly was becoming a trend. A disturbing trend.

"Chancellor, if you think I'm pleased with the fact that we have continuing attacks along our border--"

"Oh good, so we're all in agreement that nobody's happy about this," Kerry quipped sarcastically, "Well I'm glad we can agree on something here. Now let's do something about it, shall we? Or are the commanders of the largest unified military force in this galaxy not all here today?"

"Chancellor," another admiral respectfully tendered, "We understand that these attacks come at a politically sensitive time for you--"

"Admiral, for the love of the Force, shut up," Kerry said harshly, "Do you really believe I am concerned with next year's election when we have Republican citizens dying in these attacks?" The admiral decided not to keep digging. "That's what I thought. Now, what do we know, other than thus far the Fourth Fleet hasn't been able to prevent one of these attacks."

"With all due respect, Chancellor," came a voice from the end of the table, "if I may." The voice came from a Quarren. He was the head of Republican Intelligence, an outfit that Kerry's father, Fionn, had once headed up. The position came with a General's rank, which gave the Director standing on the High Command. The easiest way to tease Fionn was to call him a General, a title he had never liked.

"Please do, Teruno," Kerry said. Given her background, she tended to be receptive to whatever Republican Intelligence had to contribute to a conversation.

"It is the opinion of our analysts for the region that these attacks clearly show coordination. They are not random," Teruno said calmly, "We believe there is a central authority that is coordinating the raids, to specific purpose."

"Then who is behind them?" Kerry asked.

"That is...not something that Republican Intelligence can comment on with complete confidence at this point."

"With what confidence will you comment on it?"

The Quarren thought for a moment. "I would say...85% would be reasonable."

"Then please, Director Teruno, I am all ears," Kerry said.

    IC: Gark S’rily
    Senators Team HQ

Half of the Senators team sat in the team lounge, their silence echoing around the room. A few days earlier, they had lost a tough playoff game at home 26-6 to the Vandelhelm Jets. Yes, the same Jets team that had cost them both the Commissioner’s Trophy and Galactic Cup title the season before. And, once again, Phil Brooks and the Jets had run roughshod over what was supposed to be a solid Coruscant defense. What positives were there to draw from such a beatdown?

Dirxx Horstse, the Besalisk captain, picked up a datapad and began to read. A few seconds later, he let out a sigh. Several heads turned to see who had made the noise.

“What’s the bad news this time?” Alysha Romax, the midfielder who really had missed Izzi Polakaya out there to help her in the playoff game, said.

“Coach most likely won’t be able to save the team,” Dirxx replied.

“Figures,” Polis Vayne said. He was sitting near the HoloNet terminal.

“Well, that’s it, then,” Dirxx said, sighing. “We might as well get our Free Agency papers signed so that we can get into the pool.”

“Ugh, I hate the idea of signing somewhere else,” Polis said, downcast. “It won’t be the same, you know? I’ve always been here, and going to play for a team half the galaxy away because this team goes under? Man, that’s going to suck.”

    “You’re telling me,” Alysha replied.

Then, Gark stepped into the room, and all eyes became fixed on him. “Any word?” Dirxx asked hopefully. Most likely the team was still going under, but they could hope, couldn’t they?”

“Nothing’s changed, guys,” Gark said sullenly. ‘You’re all going to have to move on for this season, because this team’s history. And I hate saying that, because I’m going to miss it as much as the rest of you.”

“Might as well get that paperwork done,” Moen Heatly muttered to himself as he stood up.

“But . . .” Gark said, stopping everyone once again as he raised a finger. “I’m not done. See these packets I have in my hand?” He pulled out about twenty small envelopes from his jacket pocket, holding them aloft so that everyone could see them. “You might want to check these before signing those papers just yet.”

“What do you mean?” Polis asked.

“Just take a look,” Gark said. He put the envelopes on the table in the middle of the room and then walked out.

All of the players looked at each other; what was this all about? Finally, Dirxx went over and grabbed an envelope with his name on it. A long piece of flimsy came out, and he began to read.

    “Dear Mr. Horstse,
I am Alonis Wyrtz, a businessman here on the Inner Rim world of Wroona. It has come to my attention that the Coruscant Senators franchise of the Elite League has filed for bankruptcy, and will not participate in the League next season. For this, I am sorry to hear, as many people on my planet have been rooting for you and your teammates over the last decade with much fervor.

However, I am offering you an opportunity that I hope will cheer you up. I know that you are most likely unwilling to join the Free Agent pool in the Elite League. I have bankrolled a franchise Limmie team here on Wroona, the Wroona Islanders. They will play in the Inner Rim Limmie League, which is several levels below the Elite League. I know you may be skeptical about this, but your coach and GM Gark S’rily has agreed to coach the Islanders this next season, and he requested me to extend the offer I gave him to all of you.

I know the pay at this level will be nothing near what you make at the current level, but Coach S’rily has promised me that the Senators will come back soon enough, so he wants you to join him on Wroona for this upcoming season so that when the Senators come back into existence you can come back to the Elite League immediately. We are in the process of building a grand new stadium near one of the resort towns here on Wroona, and we would love it if you could sign with us. Limmie is not as popular on Wroona as it is on other Inner Rim planets, but it’s on the rise. High schools around the planet are taking up the sport in droves, and the colleges are finally producing quality teams. Thus, if you sign here, there is no doubt in my mind that together we will not only inundate the planet fully with the great sport that is Limmie, but you will also find legions of adoring new fans waiting to watch you play.

If you decline this offer, I understand. It may be difficult for your pride to sign with a new franchise in a small league. The competition may not be up to your standards. However, it would be easy to win a league title here, and you can prepare yourself for when the Senators are back in business. I have sent you a message on your datapad with the contract details; if you want, you can sign it right now. Or, if you feel like you would like to talk terms, I am willing to negotiate.

Hope to hear back from you soon, and all of us here with the Wroona Islanders would love to see you playing for us next season. Have a good day.

    Sincerely,
    Alonis Wyrtz
    CEO of Wroonian Resorts, Inc.

“Well, what is it?” Polis asked curiously.

“Take a look for yourself,” Dirxx said, handing Polis the envelope with his name on it.

Five players walked into Gark’s office. The Bothan was sitting in his old chair, bored out of his skull and staring at the ceiling. What exactly was he going to do now? The team was gone; what could he do? When he heard the players coming in, he rotated his head so that he could look at them. “Well?” he asked.

    “Why?” Polis asked.

“Why what?” Gark asked, taken aback. Surely the terms weren’t that bad. Or were his players just greedy? “Why I would sign on as coach of a franchise that plays in a small league and has no history or anything of the sort to hang its hat on? Why would I, newly-minted CEO of a large manufacturing firm, don the headset one more time?”

    “Uh . . . sure . . .” Polis said.

“Because with the Senators gone, I need my fix of Limmie,” Gark said, looking back at the ceiling. “Look, guys. When you lose everything, even the trivial things like Limmie, and I say that seriously, begin to look extremely important. There was just this hunger I couldn’t satisfy, a thorn in my side, if you will. So I want to keep coaching, but I know that it won’t be here in the Elite League. Besides, why ask me what I’m doing? It doesn’t really affect what you all do; you’re all big names. Lots of teams would gouge each other’s eyes out just to have a shot at signing you. Hell, as long as I’ve been your coach, I’ve known that this is a group of special players. But you know what makes you even more special than just Limmie players? You guys supported me when I came back. I could never have done the same for you if I was in your position. And that’s why I need to go coach the Islanders; I failed all of you by royally screwing up that playoff game and in the last year, and I need to find myself again on the pitch by whatever means necessary. As for you signing, what are the odds any of you would follow ol’ Coach down to what you consider a minor league for battles against a bunch of players playing for their hometown teams instead of going offworld for better pay? I can’t offer you any more than just a chance, a chance to play one more season together. After that, if I can’t get the Senators back in order, we’ll all end up going our separate ways anyways. So that’s the whole reason I’m going to coach there. Now, the real question is this: how badly do you want to play here again?”

There was stunned silence for several seconds after the Bothan finished speaking. Finally, Gark stood up and grabbed his backpack. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some things that need to be addressed, like having it rubbed in my face by the courts once again that I can’t do anything to save the team. Woo, sounds like fun.”

The five players looked at each other, all of them stony silent. This was going to be a huge decision for them; what would they do?

    “Hey thanks. You too.”

Zeke was so nervous and jumpy he almost shot ten feet in the air when Freknok walked up behind him.

“Hey Barbosa you coming? We’re ready to lift off”

“Yeah I’m coming tell coach a few more minutes”, Zeke replied. The landing platform was really loud and he had a hard time hearing Jenna on the phone, and he thought he heard her say she liked him.

Zeke’s heart jumped just at the thought of her saying that. He wanted to blurt out that he liked her too but it seemed way too awkward. Everything about Jenna made him smile. Her smile, her laugh, her feistiness with him with the banter they had before games and stuff, and definitely how skilled she was with Limmie. She was probably the only person he had ever faced that made him, I guess you could call it tongue tied, on the field. He made mistakes facing her that he never made against anyone else. Maybe that beautiful face distracted him from doing his job, but he’d never admit it.

“I like you too”, he said back to her though by the silence on the other end he figured he had made a huge mistake.

    IC: Setarcos Rhemes
Head Coach’s office, Grande Villa, Rydonni Prime

Setarcos just sat there, in his office, with his head in his hands. They had lost, again, for the second week in a row, to the same team. Just like last season the Monarchs had made it all the way to the Galactic Cup playoffs only to fall short in the Semifinals. Last time it had been the Jets who had been there undoing. But last time they had barely scrapped into the Playoffs.

This year was supposed to be different. This year they were the top seed. This year they were the favorites. This year they were going to win it all. But the Smugglers stood in their way and have firmly placed themselves right up there with the Jets as the teams the Monarchs loved to hate.

Against both of them they stood at a combined record of 2-6. The Monarchs score an average of 16.63 PPG while allowing 20.25 PPG. The only other combination that was the thorn in the Monarchs side were the Senators and the Mercs. The four of them accounted for ten of the Monarchs 17 total losses.

Setarcos just continued to sit there scratching his head as news came in that the Blasters had also lost. Ironically enough it was against the Smugglers PLL affiliate Druckenwell Marksmen. The Blasters not only lost, they were dismantled, 40-6. So in the coach’s mind the future did not look any better than the present.

Suddenly Dawn Solo came bursting through his door, “Quick turn on the net, they just announced something about Balmorra!”

“I know already, the Blasters lost, or should I say dropped a bomb, in the Premiership Semis.”

“No Coach,” Dawn insisted as she turned on the HoloNetNews, “there was a massive explosion at Balmorran Arms taking out half of the weapons factories.” Setarcos’s jaw hit the floor. Dawn continued, “The insurgents blew it up, they blew up the Armory. The Sundari Flatlands are gone.”

Setarcos knew at that point everything was about to change.

    Commissioner’s Office, PLL Headquarters

Commissioner Agado sat at his desk reading over the financial reports when his office doors were thrown open. In walked two silver-plated droids, which were humanoid in structure, with long limbs and heads partially encased in armor. Their hands had four long, multi-jointed claws that can be retracted into smooth-tipped fingers of human proportions to handle more delicate objects. Their sensor “eye” was a red dot that followed the V-shaped track in their heads.

The two droids split, taking up a position on either side of the doorway, and revealed the dwarfed appearance of Wilran K’ntarr. Agado noticed that two other droids took up similar positions on the other side of his door. Wilran walked in and was quickly followed by the Commissioner’s Administrative Assistant, “Sir, I’m sorry they just walked right by me without making an appointment.”

Agado held up his hand to quell his assistant, “That’s alright. I am more than happy to talk to Mr. K’ntarr.” The assistant left, closing the door behind her, and Wilran took up one of the chairs in front of the Commissioner’s desk. “What makes you think you can stroll in here with your toys Mr. K’ntarr?”

“Well Mr. Commissioner, these are SP-580s, the latest models of fully armored, metallic automatons that were developed jointly by Ryanthi Products and Balmorran Arms. They were going to revolutionize the future of ground combat, but since the latest ‘pirate’ attack took out the factory that was manufacturing them. Now the only models are being used as the personal bodyguards of the Royal House of Rydonni. Now, you can start explaining to me how you plan on stopping anymore teams from leaving the Premier League?”

The Commissioner settled into his own chair, still eying the droids at the back of his office, “Well Mr. K’ntarr, I don’t see how that is any concern of the Chairman of the Ownership group of an Elite League team.”

“You are correct Agado, I am not directly affiliated with the Premier League, my children are the owners of the Blasters. However, I am no longer the Chairman of the Monarchs either. I have sold all of my shares in the franchise to Kalin and Variise. So you see, I have no direct connection to any Limmie organization, I am just a concerned businessman with an investment in Premier League Limmie. So like I asked, what is your plan?”

“Well, Wilran, I did not think that we were at risk of losing any teams this next season. I think we have successfully stemmed the reduction crisis.”

“You are so blind. Even the Elite League teams have heard the rumblings of at least two teams looking to leave for the Galactic Championship Limmie Association.”

“I think you misunderstood those owners. I’m willing to bet that not one team leaves this next season.”

Wilran stood up and leaned across the desk. “I’ll make you a better wager. If two or more teams leave the PLL you step down as Commissioner and name me as your replacement.”

“And what do I get if I win this wager?” Agado asked curiously.

“I’ll never own or chair a senior level Limmie organization again. I will quietly retire to Dathomir and run the Rancor Riders in the junior league.” Wilran extended his hand towards the Commissioner. “So do we have a deal?”

Agado thought about it for a moment, then reached out, and took Wilran’s hand. “You have a deal.”

As Wilran turned to leave the office a slight smile spread across his lips.

    “I like you too”

Did she hear right. Did Zeke just confessed his feelings toward her. Jenna didn’t indulge any information on her feelings but was surprised that Zeke had. She jumped with happiness when heard those four little words. Now it was time for her to confess her feelings for him.

“I do like you as well.”

There she said and she couldn’t believe it. It was so hard to say but somehow some way she blurted the words out. Still nervous to talk about her feelings Jenna quietly asked Zeke if he wanted to go out after the game.

“Win or lose let’s go out and I’ll show you around Onderon.

    Coruscant

It was that time of year again--except it wasn't. The Elite League season awards were usually handed out after the Galactic Cup Final, not before. This season had definitely been unusual, to say the least, what with the Great Quiet interrupting it and the institution of a first-ever draft for new talent coming up this offseason, so apparently someone had decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to change up yet another thing. For the Smugglers and Jets in attendance, one had to wonder whether the event would distract them from preparations from the quickly approaching Galactic Cup Final on Nar Shaddaa.

Of course, it was hard to think that far ahead with all the glitz and glamor on display tonight. It was definitely a swanky affair and tickets were a hot commodity. After all, there were a lot of Limmie fans in the galaxy and a large number of them were famous. It was good for the League to draw attention to the sport, especially after the damaging Great Quiet (but hey, a work stoppage was better than bringing in replacement refs, or so everyone thought), and the attendees from outside the sporting world stood a good chance of bringing in more casual fans to a night dedicated to recognizing excellence in the Elite League.

As always, Commissioner Kayl'hen presided over the festivities.

"We begin, appropriately, with the award for the best rookie player in the League, the Ingbrand Award. It's a category that we expect to see much more crowded in the next few seasons as draftees begin to filter into the League," the Bothan said, "but this season we are privileged to have three outstanding young players to honor. They are: Chalporrin, Euceron Storm; Nanchecka Stormborn, Bakura Miners; and Zadd, Coruscant Senators."

All three received individual applause as their names were read and featured on the vidscreens in the auditorium, as was customary. The practice continued throughout the evening.

"And the winner is...Nanchecka Stormborn, Bakura Miners."

"In any organization, there is always a position where the buck is not kicked higher up the ladder, an individual to whom everyone is answerable and much is expected. In the Elite League, that position is the General Manager. The Grames Award, named for one of the great GMs that this League has seen, honors the best General Manager in the Elite League. This year's nominees are Vincent Cutter of the Nar Shaddaa Smugglers, Uda Nazug of the Rydonni Prime Monarchs, and Aebett Zargana of the Euceron Storm," Kayl'hen said.

"And--in a hotly contested vote--the winner is Aebett Zargana, Euceron Storm."

"I have always loved the Mando'a word for bolo-ball: meshgeroya, the beautiful game. At its best, Limmie is a truly beautiful game, not just in how it is played, but in how it brings the galaxy together. The Duchess Eldin Award was created this season to honor those who not only play the game beautifully and with skill, but those whose actions remind us that it is indeed a game. Of course, as our inaugural nominees show, that doesn't mean that they don't play without passion. Those nominees are Alan Glencross of the Bakura Miners, Ryi Kor'le of the Mando'ade Mercs, and Beks Vidda of the Rydonni Prime Monarchs.

"The winner of the first Duchess Eldin Award for athletic excellence and sportsmanship is...Alana Glencross of the Miners."

"It was quite a year for head coaches in the Elite League. In the tightest League in anyone's memory, this season has truly been up for grabs. It has been up to head coaches to make the difference. This year, it is my pleasure to announce three highly deserving nominees for the Langann Award, recognizing the best head coach in the League. They are: Luc Everoux, Nar Shaddaa Smugglers; Setarcos Rhemes, Rydonni Prime Monarchs; and Goreal Sepiun, Vandelhelm Jets.

"Our winner is--Setarcos Rhemes of Rydonni Prime."

"The Zumtak Award is another award seeing its first year. It recognizes those individuals both on and off the field who have made significant contributions to the sport of Limmie through perseverance and dedication. In doing so, they have provided an example to all of them. Of all of the categories tonight, I can honestly say that I believe that each and every one of these nominees truly deserves this award. Please join me in recognizing all of the nominees at this time. Marte Nalo of HSN Euceron for raising the visibility of the sport of Limmie through excellent in broadcast journalism." Sustained applause at the reading of the sportcaster's name. "Izzi Polyaka, formerly of the Coruscant Senators and now with Coruscant Polytechnic Institute, for efforts in the development of young Limmie players during the Great Quiet at CorTech." Further sustained applause. "And Gark S'rily--" Kayl'hen didn't even finish saying her fellow Bothan's name before the applause and cheers started. She could barely be heard as she said, "--for bringing to light the crimes of Callo Mornd and restoring the integrity of the Coruscant Senators franchise."

Once the din had died down, Kayl'hen opened the envelope containing the winner's name. "The winner of the inaugural Zumtak Award is Gark S'rily."

"Finally, as is traditional, we close with the award for the most valuable player in the League, the coveted Salbukk Award. For the first time in quite some time, all three nominees hail from behind the Front Six. In fact, all three nominees have at one point played goalkeeper, making this a true first for the Elite League. Our nominees are Meredith Chambers of the Nar Shaddaa Smugglers; Qatak Lemieux of the Nadiem Chiefs; and Dawn Solo of the Rydonni Prime Monarchs."

"And the winner is," Kayl'hen paused for dramatic effect, "...Meredith Chambers, Nar Shaddaa."

"Thank you all for attending tonight, and we look forward to seeing you all at Six Boroughs for the Galactic Cup Final," Kayl'hen said by way of closing.

"I'd love that, but wouldn't we have to hide our relationship from our two respective teams? I mean we do kind of have a rivalry building between the Dragons and Rough Riders wouldn't you agree?"

He had started heading towards the landing pad to board the transport. It was still late at night here on Genet and Zeke was pretty tired, but the adrenaline rush from making it to the title game and now Jenna not only confessing she did like him (even though he was kidding last time they talked before their week 7 matchup), but asking him out as well kept him awake.

"I might have to show you around Ryloth as well if you want. With the offseason coming up we'll have alot of time on our hands."

    Coruscant

The annual Elite League awards ceremony was on, and Gark was glad from the time he had entered the building to be here. It had been a long time coming; for months, he had believed that he would no longer be able to attend these without being chased out by an angry mob of Senators fans. There was still a possibility that would happen, with the bankruptcy filing of the team and all, but Gark hadn’t exactly wanted that to happen. The Senators weren’t bankrupt by any means; Mornd had obviously looked for the first thing he could do to shut down the team, and bankruptcy must have seemed rather appealing. Too bad Mornd’s personal finances have betrayed him, but only Gark knew this. The courts, on the other hand, seemed to favor closing the team down, which saddened the Bothan greatly. But now was not the time for that; he had awards to attend.

He had chatted with personnel from other teams, and generally made sure that this was an experience he would not soon forget. It was funny how losing everything made you look at things like this almost as a luxury. However, he had made sure to avoid Phil Brooks of the Vandelhelm Jets, who was being a pompous ass as usual. And the problem was that Brooks had personally beaten down the veteran defense of the Senators earlier in the week. He was like a plague that wouldn’t go away.

Finally, all of the people were ushered into the auditorium, and then Commissioner Kayl’hen began to announce the winners of the awards. First up was the Ingbrand, given to the top rookie in the league. Zadd of the Senators was nominated for the award, and rightfully so. He had almost single-handedly, with some help from Jet Adama, powered the Senators to the playoffs with his scoring. He was going to be a player to watch for quite some time. However, it would probably be with a different team in the Elite League, because Zadd hadn’t said anything about his plans for next year. Gark sat two chairs away from the Defel forward, with Alysha Romax, the talented midfielder, sitting between them. Although her name not up for any awards, Alysha had made it known that she was going to show up by using her likeness to finagle a ticket out of some vendor.

The Ingbrand eventually went to Nancheka Stormborn of the Bakura Miners. Gark sighed; yet another Ingbrand victory for the Miners. Oh well, at least Zadd had gotten the recognition he deserved by being nominated in the first place. Not bad considering all the crap that had gone down over the season.

After a couple more awards, Kayl’hen came to the Zumtak Award. Gark figured that he could close his eyes, since no one in their right mind would nominate him. Thus, it was a real shock when his name was mentioned, interrupted by the sheer number of cheers and chants coming from the crowd. This shot him out of his stupor rather fast, and he blinked several times to clear his head. He, the blackballed GM, was up for an award? He hadn’t seen that coming.

“And the winner of the Zumtak is . . . Gark S’rily,” Kayl’hen said. Gark rose from his seat, but he didn’t feel like he had. It felt like he was floating, and he looked down at his feet to make sure that they were still attached to solid ground. When he saw his shoes on the ground, he breathed a sigh of relief, and then headed for the podium. As he walked down the aisle, everyone in the house stood and cheered for him. A standing ovation for the Bothan who had breathed life back into the stricken Coruscant franchise, how fitting. When Gark reached the podium, he was handed the Zumtak Award and was pushed towards the microphone.

“Uh . . . am I dreaming?” he asked, bewildered. More cheering from the crowd. “No, I actually didn’t know that I was up for this award. I guess that’s what happens when I didn’t do any of the voting myself. It was quite the shock to my system, because I was trying to fall asleep over in my chair there.” Some chuckles came from the crowd. “But, in all seriousness, thank you for putting me up for this award. I never knew we had this award, frankly, because it was instituted at a very dark time in my life, something that I’ll never truly get over. But now it’s in my hands, and I feel like I’ve made up for my mistakes. And to the other two up for this award; Marte, I know you’re out there somewhere. I still remember coaching against you a few years back, and you never made it easy on me. You pushed my squad all the way, and I also thank you for supporting me on the news when no one else would. And as for Izzi . . . well, what can I say . . . she’s done so much with that CorTech team . . . they’re lucky to have her, and I’m afraid that she probably won’t come back and play for my team next season because she’s got some time in coaching. Just telling you, if you’re out there, that Alysha certainly missed you in that playoff game. Thanks again for this honor, and I’m certainly glad to be back in front of you all again. It means so much to me to even be up for an award, and I’m certain that this won’t be the last you’ve all heard of the Coruscant Senators. We will be back.”

This was met with earsplitting roars from the crowd. Gark raised the trophy in his hand in triumph; he had finally returned.

    Coruscant

    "...Nanchecka Stormborn."

A scream of shot pierced the auditorium as the applause began--and Alana's eardrum. It had come from two seats to her left from the winner of the Ingbrand Award, who was apparently stunned by her victory. Alana came to her feet in a green evening dress to applaud her teammate, who was just getting to her feet. Alana hugged Nanchecka as she made her way through the row to the aisle.

"Congratulations," Alana said, genuinely to her teammate. In Alana's eyes it was quite a surprise win. The Miners' fifth place finish didn't usually make for awards and she would have thought that Zadd would have been the bigger contender given Coruscant losing nearly their entire starting lineup and still making the postseason. But, the voters clearly felt differently. There was a bittersweet quality to the win. Though Alana was happy for the Echani, she was about to receive an award Alana would never win. She'd had her opportunity and been thwarted by Kor'le. Of course.

"Good Maker," Nanchecka said, still clearly shocked, as she received the Ingbrand Award, "Is this seriously happening? I'm--I'm blown away. I have no words. None at all. Except the words to say that I have no words, I guess." The unintentional joke drew some laughs. "Oh my gosh. I never thought I was going to win this award. Never. It was an honor to be nominated, but...wow. My Maker. Wow.

"If I've got to thank anyone, it's my teammates for keeping it up all season long. And Quinn Cundertol--when you signed me, you told me that I was going to have an opportunity to make a name for myself. I didn't believe you, but I guess you were right. And there's one last person I've got to thank--Gaeriel Valerii. I would have never thought I could have played corner forward, but the last two games since she moved me there to make room for Aron have been two of the best games I've ever played. Here's to a lot more where they came from. Thank you. Thank you!"

Alana applauded her teammate. Stormborn was now the fourth Miner rookie of the year of the Kayl'hen Era. It was a mark that no other team had yet to even come close to. And yet, it made Alana think. If they could find quality talent so readily it made them less likely to put up with the demands of veterans. Especially big name veterans who had contracts expiring.

Glencross shifted in her seat. It was not a comfortable thought.

"At its best, Limmie is a truly beautiful game, not just in how it is played, but in how it brings the galaxy together. The Duchess Eldin Award was created this season to honor those who not only play the game beautifully and with skill, but those whose actions remind us that it is indeed a game," Kayl'hen said.

Alana's throat tightened a bit. Here it was. Her award. She smoothed her dress and hoped her hair looked good for the holocameras would shortly be on her.

"Of course, as our inaugural nominees show, that doesn't mean that they don't play without passion. Those nominees are Alan Glencross of the Bakura Miners, Ryi Kor'le of the Mando'ade Mercs, and Beks Vidda of the Rydonni Prime Monarchs," Kayl'hen said.

Alana smiled when she was mentioned by name and gave a little wave for the cameras. Once the feed had switched off her, she turned to look at Kor'le. She wondered what was going through Ryi's head. Here they were again, facing each other. Kor'le had taken the Ingbrand. Alana had won the Salbukk. Ryi had the Premiership. Glencross had the most recent meeting on the pitch. One of them would now have the Duchess Eldin.

"The winner of the first Duchess Eldin Award for athletic excellence and sportsmanship is...Alana Glencross of the Miners."

As the auditorium applauded, one of Alana's fists tightened up into a ball. It wasn't anger that did it. It was a sense of satisfaction that she'd won. Being nominated was an honor, but winning was even better. With a smile, she rose from her seat and embraced Stormborn who was smiling broadly. Two awards for the Miners on the night, both categories where they'd gotten nominations. That was a good night indeed.

Alana ascended the stairs to the stage and accepted the award from the Commissioner. She looked at it admiringly for a second before looking back out at the crowd.

"Well, nice to know that I get to enjoy that new award smell before somebody else ruins it," Alana said with a smile, and then added, "My extreme apologies in advance to the 271 winner of this award for messing that up for you." That got a couple laughs.

"But seriously, I'm incredibly honored to receive an award that not only acknowledges athletic achievement, but also sportsmanship. Let's be honest: this has been a tough year for Limmie. The Great Quiet could have set us back a long, long time, as a league, but as a sport. Instead, I've got to give a lot of credit to the organizers of the Chancellor's Cup, the Tribunes Tournament, and the Rim Series for hosting some entertaining tournaments that were about making sure that people still had Limmie. Even though we played for trophies, I know I experience a more collegial atmosphere than an Elite League game.

"And that goes double for the HSN All-Star Game. For no other reason than breaking down the traditional team barriers, that game helped me a lot personally to rediscover our commonalities and to really help restore a sense of civility to this game. I'll be honest, playing with Jerek Deter and my fellow nominee Ryi Kor'le really built some bridges.

"So tonight I accept this award as, I hope, a representative of all of us in the League who realize that we set an example for young beings everywhere who watch this sport and look to us as role models. Let's be honest, Beks, Ryi, either one of you could just as easily be up here to accept this award, especially you Ryi.

"Oh!" Alana said, suddenly remembering, "Before they cut my mike off, I've got a joke for everybody. See, Ryi and I, we're close now after the All Star Game and a Miners fan on Bakura came up to me and said that he wasn't happy about that. In fact he said, 'Why don't you and Kor'le just get married? Just make sure that Kor'le throws the bouquet because otherwise it'll get intercepted.'

"Seriously though, I'm honored so much. Thank you," Alana said in closing.

"And Gark S'rily--" Alana applauded hard for S'rily when he was listed as a Zumtak nominee. "--for bringing to light the crimes of Callo Mornd and restoring the integrity of the Coruscant Senators franchise.

"The winner of the inaugural Zumtak Award is Gark S'rily."

Alana rose to her feet in standing ovation of the Bothan from Coruscant who had fought hard to prove his innocence and was now standing by a bankrupt Limmie club when he had no reason to do so. The truth was that when Alana had heard the initial reports of his malfeasance, since proved to be completely false, she had accepted them. It made her angry and sad that someone would do that to one of the great teams from the Elite League. But when S'rily had proved his good name, Alana had nothing but respect for him. It was rare that Alana had ever seen such determination, such dedication to the cause of truth. And the truth was that Gark deserved this award more than anyone else that night would.

"Thanks again for this honor, and I’m certainly glad to be back in front of you all again. It means so much to me to even be up for an award, and I’m certain that this won’t be the last you’ve all heard of the Coruscant Senators. We will be back," S'rily said.

Good, Alana thought, because I'm looking forward to beating you fair and square at full strength when you're back.

After the ceremony concluded, the press wanted pictures of all the winners and as the only winners from the same team, the shot of Nanchecka and Alana was one that just about every reporter it seemed wanted. They posed back to back with their awards and large smiles.

"Ladies, is this the sign of bigger things to come?" one reporter asked.

"Don't ask me, I have to be humble all season since I won this thing," Alana replied.

"I've got 100 credits that says you don't!" another reporter interjected.

    Alana laughed and smiled.

    Coruscant

    Awards night.

That meant doing something that Meredith Chambers rarely ever did. Wear a dress and look good doing it. She had the figure to pull a dress off but she preferred to wear her Limmie uniform over something that might rip if she turned the wrong way. So she would smile and wave, be polite, and get the hell out of this show as fast as ever. After all, this year was looking to be another boring year at the ceremony. It wasn't that winning a Limmie award wasn't prestigious for Chambers, rather, she always kept her eye on the big prize, the Galactic Cup Trophy and that particular event was coming up soon. Too soon.

Yesterday she had been on the pitch in a turbulent battle against the Rydonni Prime Monarchs. They'd fought well, hard, with honor, but ultimately their inexperience in the post season had doomed them. Meredith understood the emotions of a heartbreaking loss. She remembered losing to the Rangers in 262 after helping the Smugglers assemble a 6-1 regular season record. On paper, they should've beaten those walking carpets. In reality, the Smugglers were the ones who were handled and shown an early exit from the Semifinal round. That loss was a distant memory now but at one point had nearly threatened to derail her professional Limmie career. She'd thought about quitting. Making her way through the sea of bodies at the awards ceremony, Meredith suppressed a smile. Imagine how different this league would've been.

Meredith noticed she'd been placed a few rows behind Glencross. Red was jabbering away with a friend like usual. Her mouth, as was so often the case in the real games that they were paid to play, was doing most of the work. But Chambers had few hard feelings toward Alana. She just got annoyed with the girly girly thing but whatever. The Limmie All Star Game had humbled Meredith. She respected Alana's competitive edge more than ever. Still, she did talk a lot. In her defense, Chambers had noticed that Glencross was more subdued following the Miners defeat this year in the Black and Blue battle. A little moment of quiet contemplation wouldn't kill her anyway. The talking died away and the ceremony began.

The awards were announced and the results were not that surprising. The Storm had picked up the Grames Award. They were a franchise that had struggled since entering the Elite League but who hadn't? The Miners once again were rewarded with a rookie winning the Ingbrand. No surprise there. Everyone knew that the Miners had one of the most successful rookie cultivation programs in the entire galaxy. Gark S'rily, the mastermind of the Coruscant Senators, was rewarded with a standing ovation. Meredith whistled loudly for one of her franchises biggest rivals. That was good. That was the natural order of things. Game on.

Glencross, surprisingly, was awarded the new Duchess Eldrin Award for sportsmanship. That surprised Meredith. She remembered a particularly nasty ankle stomp toward the end of the Black and Blue Battle during a tight scrum near the goal. She was sure that little dirty trick was Red's retaliation for a clutch save on Chambers part. Her own private army of fire ants set to devour every inch of your flesh. Yeah, somehow, Glencross and sportsmanship didn't quite go in the same sentence. Almost like saying that Darth Vader was a good person. But given further reflection on the matter, Meredith had enjoyed the moments the pair of them shared during the Limmie All Star game on Bespin. That was a special moment. Swapping jerseys, getting all those reporters drooling at the mouth, yeah, good times.

Now, her name had just been called for yet another Salbukk nomination. That was three in the past decade. The Limmie gods did favor her. Meredith had won in 262, 267, and was sitting on the hot seat as she awaited for the announcer to tell the audience who had won the prestigious award, league MVP, it didn't get any better than this. Well, yeah, it did. The number nine popped into Chambers' head. Nine championships. She'd have a chance to secure that legacy for the Smugglers franchise in a few days. Going up against the Jets who had come down pretty hard on the Smugglers in the regular season at home. Her eyes darted to Phil Brooks. There weren't many in this room who liked that scoundrel, Chambers included. So come game day, Meredith was all set to wipe that little smirk off his face. To send him crying to Vandelhelm about how the burgundy and black had smuggled his chance at a repeat away from him. Hey, she was just returning the favor.

"And the winner is," Kayl'hen paused for dramatic effect, "...Meredith Chambers, Nar Shaddaa."

A flash of blinding light. The roar of the audience, though if you listened carefully you could hear a few boos, and Meredith was on her feet, trying not to trip over her dress, trying not to break an ankle in her heels. She strode onto the stage, looked Kayl'hen in the eyes and flashed a smile. Tucking the award under her arm, Meredith said, "I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for some very influential people in the Limmie world who are no longer with us today. One of whom has been honored by having an award named after her. Others, well, wherever you are, I hope I've made the best of my opportunity to play this beautiful game. I want to thank my fans, my peers, my critics, for always pushing me harder and harder to be a better player. Playing this game has been the best experience of my life. I want you all to know that. Thanks."

The audience clapped in approval and Meredith shuffled off stage. She posed for a few pictures and then tore into a shuttle that would take her back home to Nar Shaddaa. She was going home. Home to bring another championship to the Vertical City.

    IC: Tavis Corizyl
    Home

Tavis sat up in bed as his alarm clock went off. As he did so, he felt a sharp pain in his lower leg, and he winced. It was that strained muscle flaring up again, one that he had played through most of the season with. It had really dogged him in that Vandelhelm game the week before, and now it was really bothering him. His wife stirred next to him, but Tavis, trying not to wake her up, slipped out of bed and staggered towards the bathroom, feeling a jolt of pain in his leg every step of the way.

When he reached the bathroom, he switched on one of the lights and took a good hard look at himself. What was he doing? The everyday aches and pains of being an Elite League goalie were starting to catch up with him. How many times had he played through the pain of a pulled muscle or jammed fingers, usually not telling anyone that he wasn’t 100%? For goalies, sitting out due to such injuries was ludicrous, so he played on, even though he often found himself in pain doing so. Such was life for a goalie in his position. But this last season, especially with Aileen Wynn coaching the team and making everyone do extra repetitions for no real reason, that was the breaking point. When Tavis looked at himself in the mirror, he could see two different people. The twenty-year old kid who had jumped at the chance to play professional Limmie out of college seemed to be contrasting with the 35-year old Tavis who had seen and done a lot on the pitch in his career. His beard, non-existent when he had been in college, was starting to make him look older than he was. And his body certainly made him feel like he was 45.

As he stared at himself, Tavis began to contemplate what he had done in his career. He had played for a terrible Coruscant Senators team for a couple of years, backing up the starting goalie in his rookie season before taking over starting duties the next season. Man, those days seemed so long ago, back when he wouldn’t let pain bother him. And, at some length, he still didn’t let small injuries nag him too much. But he felt like a man who had had enough; he didn’t want to take the wear and tear of Limmie anymore, at least not at this level. His heart was still in the game as it had been fourteen years earlier, but his body didn’t seem to share the sentiment.

Finally, his wife came in and put her hand on his shoulder. “You all right?” she asked, bleary-eyed.

“I’m thinking of hanging up my spikes,” Tavis said, still staring at himself in the mirror. “My leg is hurting again, and I’m sick of taking shots to relieve the pain. It’s time to quit.”

“Well, that’s your decision, and yours alone,” she said in reply to him. “Do what you need to. And, no matter what you decide to do, I support you.”

“Thanks,” Tavis said. He was glad to have her around to be a second conscience for him. How could he live without her?

Tavis got out of his speeder and walked into Senators team HQ. As he passed the front desk, which was unmanned now that the team was disbanding, he made his way towards the coaching offices. As he walked down the hallway, he was bombarded by images of the Senator greats. 300 years of existence, and now the Senators were going under. What a shame. The faces of Lysander Perkins, Jipoly Numifolis, and many others seemed to stare straight at him, all of them Senator heroes from days gone by. None of the people on the wall were alive anymore; hell, Numifolis had been dead for almost 275 years. But it was still a walk of fame, and everyone who walked down it got a small taste of the long history of the Senators. Or, at least what used to be.

Tavis walked into the Head Coach office, where Gark S’rily was sitting staring at the ceiling. The Bothan had place several boxes on his desk, and they were filled to the brim with items from the room. Spare headsets, flimsy clippings, even a Grames Award, they were all in there. The goalie knocked hard on the door, and Gark turned around in his chair.

    “Oh, hey,” Gark said.

“Hi, Coach,” Tavis said. “Listen, there’s something I need to say.”

    “Fire away,” Gark said.

“I’m thinking of retiring,” Tavis said.

    “Retiring?” Gark asked. “Why?”

“I got up this morning, and I felt a really bad twinge in my leg from that muscle I pulled last week. Normally I would play through the pain, but since our season is over and the team’s disbanding, there’s no reason to work it any harder. And I looked at myself this morning; I’m getting too old for this. Those younger kids have a lot more spring in their legs than I do, and I’m tired of always playing through injuries. I just think it’s time to quit, to hang up the spikes and move on with my life.”

    “I see,” Gark said.

    “You angry?” Tavis asked.

“Not at all,” Gark said. “Actually, I was going to ask you what you were planning on doing next season, so I guess that answers my question. Well, I wish you well in the next step of your life, Tavis. It was good having you in goal all these years; you were one of my most dependable players.”

    “Thanks,” Tavis replied.

“And this game definitely is not kind to goalies,” Gark mused. “You have to do all kinds of crazy acrobatics in order to make plays out there, and it wears on you. I don’t blame you for deciding to give it up; I would never have lasted at that position.”

“It was time,” Tavis said. “Anyways, I gotta go clean out my locker.”

“Right,” Gark said. He stood up and extended his hand. Tavis shook it. “You’re a good player, Tavis. It’ll be a shame not to have you suiting up next season. But, you know something? Keep your head high; you did a lot during your career, so now enjoy your retirement.”

“Thanks for everything,” Tavis said. With that, he turned around to go.

“Oh, and by the way,” Gark said, stopping the goalie in his tracks. “I may come calling at some point if I need a coach. You interested?”

    “Sure,” Tavis said.

“Cool. I’ll see you later, then,” Gark said.

And with that, the two-time Galactic Cup-winning goalie left the Head Coach office for the final time as a player. As soon as he reached the HoloNet terminal in the Team Lounge, which was completely empty except for him, he called up the retirement papers and filled them in. Finally, he took a deep breath and submitted them. He was now a retired player, and he had not felt so relieved in a long time.

    Home, Onderon

Hide their relationship that never occurred to Jenna. It's not like were going to sabotage the match. She was sure there were lots of couples in the GCLA or even in the Elite Limmie. She didn't want to hide from anyone if she was going to be in a relationship.

"I don't think it's necessary for us to hide. As long as we keep it professional on the field. She replied back.

"I look forward to seeing Ryloth with you."

She felt a warmth in her heart that wasn't there before. She was also blushing. She was glad he didn't see cause she would have been so embarrassed. She couldn't believe what was happening. She twirled around with excitement and joy that she almost knocked over an old lamp that she had on a table.

"So we will talk after the game. Goodbye Zeke for now."

She switched her comm link off and prepared to go to the stadium for practice.

Excerpted from The Bluebells and the Edelweiss

    Galactic Senate, Coruscant

Kerry Trieste was addressing the Galactic Seante in the wake of the explosions on Balmorra and the Republic's response. “...to this end, as Supreme Chancellor and commander in chief of the armed forces of the Republic, this morning I authorized the Second and Fourth Fleets to call up their reserves and mobilize for unrestricted warfare against Yssenn and his criminal flotilla. Let me make one thing clear: I do not make this decision lightly. I fully understand that there may be some brave beings who do not return from this mission. These beings of the Fleet and the reserves swore to defend the Republic because of patriotism and honor. They hoped that they would never be called to this action, but they took that oath knowing one day their Republic might ask it of them. And by the Force I am glad they did because not only is our cause righteous, is our cause just, but there is no one, no one, I would rather have fight for me, for our families, for all of us than them.”

The Senate rose in applause for this patriotic sentiment. The reserves that the Chancellor had called up were beings with lives and day jobs. For some of them, that day job was playing Limmie.
