Did you ever wonder about all the odd phrases the characters use in the SW Universe, and what the real world equivalent would be (for those of you not in the know, star wars is in fact not the real world :)). Here are a few of their choice phrases:

    Stang!

    Bantha Poodoo

    Sithspawn

    Emperor'e Black Bones

Thats all I can think of for now, although I know there are a ton more. Does anybody know anymore? And, what do these translate to here on earth? Oh, and please try to keep this to a PG rating.....

I'm surprised that "Emperor's Black Bones" became a commonly used phrase so quickly after Palpatine's reign. When people are that upset, they don't usually have time to try to remember what expression of frustration is currently popular. :)

Stang can be traced back to roots in the 14th, and 15th century.

Stang, from the norse means, "to prick, or to impale"

It later was a cry of intense pain, a cry of surprise, as well, as tied to a Norse Curse, believed to have strong magicks, involving impaling the head of horse on a pole, and carved curses written down the side of the pole(Niostang).

    [image=http://www.ragnarokr.com/images/nidstang1.gif]

Speaking of wich, I have seen the word used in other Non-starwars comics.

Add it to the list of earth curse words like, Damn, Hell, and Shag it all(Han solo at star's end), seen in star wars.

Let's not forget "frag". Short for "fragment"?

Well, you might be right about frag, I know it means to Kill from the gaming term it originates from, and it might mean to fragment someone into little pieces?

In I jedi when Corran repeatedly says 'sithspawn' how come Luke does not take offense since he is a sith's spawn.

"May Vader take you!" is an Imperial insult
"Kiss my Wookiee!" is something Han yelled at Zsinj
Kriff is also like 'hell' or '****' for example "Who the kriff are you!?"

    +sithspit
+son of a bitch (no joke, han calls nil spaar this in shield of lies. Almost positive)

But all those one's like 'emperor's black bones' and 'laser brains'... they just make the skin crawl with their tackiness. I just wish they'd be un-pc and say ***t and the like. Because as far as I'm concerned, a decent array of plausible and aggressive profanities is the ONLY thing the eu lacks as a whole.

Well, technically sithspawn are mutated, and manipulated creatures, of the darkside.

definition of spawn is to reproduce in large numbers of egg, or offspring.

If that's your definition of luke, well I don't agree, but i'm not going to argue with you, ;).

In working on a fan audio drama (Second Strike) we had to come up with quite a few, and draw as much from SW as possible. When we ended up looking around a bit, it seems like the most commonly used ones (other than those already mentioned) were more like descriptive name-calling. Like if I called someone a "camel-kisser" or something wacked out like that. Most of the times they're either completely off the wall terms, of they're some form of descriptive name-calling it seems, instead of actual words that SW universe people might consider "bad words."

"No bad words. Bad thoughts! Bad intentions! And . . . words."

    "Shavit!"

At least Mara and I think one or two others use this term in the Hand of Thrawn books. It appears to be a replacement for the "d" word.

In the beginning of Vision of the Future a pirate asks Karrde (referring to Shada) "Who is this bahshi, anyway?"

At this moment, Shada is kicking some swoopers around. Thus from the context, I think we can all figure out what word it replaces!
