    A bit of good news.

I've just finished capturing hte video of the panel onto my computer.

Despite some early worries, about sound, the capture went well, and I'm compressing a first version of it.

I'm going for a 1 October release, but if its ready before then I'll release.

I've posted some screenshots from the panel at the RoN site. Just follow the link in my tagline. More to come...

    Sweet.

Everyone: I've seen some of the compression tests Michael has run on the panel footage. It should turn out quite well.

Keith: Mind if I put some of those screenshots on the Fanworks site as a sort of photo exploration of the fan audio panel?

Addendum: I've got a page ready with those (cropped, smaller) and a couple of my own with a link to the RON site for uncropped, larger versions plus your BTS photos.

Gimme the word and I'm ready to upload that new page.

If I stick up with setting I've been using for the early tests, for a video at the resolution of 320x240 we're looking at a file size of around 120mb.

If needed I'll split it down into two maybe three files.

Still going for a October 1st release.

You might want to share your links to dragoncon.com. They might just post links which could end up being quite helpful. I'

I'll probably do so once the video is up.

Speaking of which, Oct. 1 is the target for the video, but there may be a chance that Michael and I will put up the audio portion of the panel on September 11 (Thursday) as a sort of alternative for those deluged by TV coverage of the anniversary (like Michael, heh).

Update: Things are coming along, as Michael will attest. I just sent him the revised audio version of the panel, with an intro, a music addition to go with the intro, and I've managed to whittle a 45 MB mp3 down to about 9 MB, with very little quality loss, so we may end up using that one. If we can pick a definite version ot put up, I may be able to put it up before I leave town Friday morning.

As for the video, I know that it'll be on RON, Michael's site, and Fanworks (with a special Fanworks "ChronoVideo" introduction by Michael and I). On Fanworks, we're probably looking at several files split up, but I don't know about the others.

Should be fun. I'm hoping we can get the audio one out before I leave. ::crosses fingers::

The quality of hte 9 mb version is just as good as the 45mb version.

As for the video, I have a version now compressed, that short of a chance to add some extra thing, which would require more disk space than I have at the moment, is going to be the final version.

The single download file will be 125mb, that's at a resolution of 320x240.

I still intend to release the video on 1 October.

Hey just listened to the Audio Panel. Very interesting. I have to admit, i was hoping to hear Nathan talking more about Fanworks and Anthology etc, but the RoN talk was very interesting.

RoN was EXCELLENT by the way. Kudos to everyone involved.

Heh, yeah, I was quite outnumbered. I basically was the voice of, well, everything else other than RON.

But then again, it was originally meant to be an RON-only panel.

I'm sure next year will be more of a spread out representation. I know I'm interested in going down next year. I'd like to get get RoN "screened" there so to speak. We could do a lot more fan audio wise next year than what was available this year.

Anyhow, thanks for the feedback Sean. I'm glad you enjoyed RoN.

The video files for the panel are "locked." I'm uploading them to Fanworks, so we can release immediately upon Michael giving us the go-ahead on Oct. 1.

    Hmmm... ahead of schedule... nope.

I gave the 1 October release date, just to allow for any unforseen problems, there have been a few as Nathan will back me up.

All I will say is that, once I've caught up with all my other projects, which I put aside to get this video stuff out, and after the 1st October release, after I've fdisked the hdd, I'm going to working a slightly improved version of the video, stuff which I can't do with the HDD set up the way it is.

You know things like, transitions, a longer opening and closing title sequences etc.

It's looking like Fanworks will have five separate files that split the video into chunks, plus a 95 MB or so download of a smaller res full-panel file, along with the audio file that's already up.

We should also have the introduction segment by Michael and I, which may or may not be located at any other download location.

Once the files go live on Oct. 1, we'll keep 'em up, but if bandwidth becomes a major issue, we'll do one or the other (full or parts, not both).
