    IC: Gibbons

Gibbons nodded, and stepped to his left, touching lightly on the balls of his feet so as not to alert the quarry. Unbidden, his fingers began to turn to knives...

At the slithering sound of metal on metal, the cybernetic beast stopped, casting about for the source. THen settling in his direction.

    "Ah crap." Gibbons whispered.

IC: as As Covenant Engineer Megwa Noknuk, Para-Rescue Specialist, Lieutenant Terry Anakowski and Contract Scientist/Engineer for the US Department of Defense/War, Hisashi Mori.

Anakowski raised his acquired plasma pistol, aiming for the lumbering beast's ravaged head then quickly fired a hot stream of plasma straight towards the center of it. The cranial mass began to burn with a fire reminiscent of a roman candle with greens yellows and blues dancing amongst the flames as they jetted upwards at high velocity. Suddenly the flesh seemed to dissolve into a mercurial puddle that in turn started flowing towards the group at an alarming rate. Covering several yards in a second the puddle branched into four different smaller streams as it approached the individuals of the group. Anakowski attempted to quickly adjust his aim downward as the puddle began racing at them even as the abandoned corpse of the Brute toppled headlong over as an apparent cover for the main body of the mercury like substance.

"Back peddle!" bellowed Anakowski in warning as his stream sprinted towards him at a tremendous rate then seemed to catapult upwards towards his chest. Just before it reached his central mass, Hisashi Mori's Covenant Energy Shield popped up between the Lieutenant and the liquid metal assailant. With nothing to purchase a grasp upon but the equivalent of a liquid Teflon surface, the stream of Nanites fell to the ground to regroup into something more formidable. Everyone else backed off taking the Lieutenant's advice seriously if only for a brief instant.

    IC: Gibbons

Gibbons edged forward as the sentient metal snaked away. He reached down and pried out the Red plasma weapon from the hulking creature's hand. He gripped the awkward gun, wondering if it would fire. He had no way of knowing how much charge it carried, but it was active. a tiny carmine spark arced back and forth at the "muzzle" of the weapon. He trained it on the metal fluid that was slinking away into the darkness, but the lack of sights made him question his aim, and he did not fire.

For it's part, the metal raised up like a cobra watching the group in its eyeless way. Whether it was planning its next move or communicating to it's superiors or adopting a threat posture they had no way of knowing.

"What is this thing?" Gibbons said to Megwa, never taking his eyes off the mercury worm.

    IC: Megwa.

Megwa had found something while the rest had been focused on the apparition that had once been a living member of one of the most deadly species of the Covenant. His tentacles wrapped around the plasma grenade he'd found, gauging the distance towards his intended target's position. He spoke in a chittering voice into the translator which in turn spoke to Gibbons and the rest of his adopted comrades.

"Quickly! Back away from it that I may use this plasma bomb!" the translator box boomed.

Two seconds later he threw the plasma grenade with outstanding precision, very close to the coiling mercurial metallic thing. The Metal thing attempted to withdraw further but to no avail. It blew with great heat sizzling the floor around the things position. A white hot searing glow expanded twenty feet outward destroying everything within the affected radius including the metallic substance.

Before the plasma grenade's explosion had time to cool, a series of detonations were heard and felt from somewhere below through the floor. Suddenly the floor erupted with a great booming as though it were a volcano in quick succession one, two then a third large pair of holes shot through by immense plasma bolts from down below. Sounds of human grenades were heard with the appearance of the large glowing holes, that and full auto gun fire with human shouts. Again another round of human grenades went off. The sound of gun fire was coming in a torrent from down below through the holes and didn't let up until several seconds passed. Then just as suddenly it stopped after a human voice called. The quite was suspenseful and edgy.

"Chinese," said Hisashi. "That was Chinese I heard spoken. It was an order to cease fire." he said, this time in a whisper.

"I wonder what their intentions are here," Whispered Anakowski.

    ******************************************************************************************************

The smoke and fire was clearing now as Company Tiger reloaded and began advancing once again gradually up the shallow slope. Major Xai Wu ordered confirmed kills of the fallen adversaries before they passed on. Shouts of surprise, then near panic with more gun fire followed. The fallen Covenant warriors were not dead but seemed to be reviving! Some of his troops were caught in their opponents' grasps. These "dead" creatures now defied further gun fire and death from up close and personal and continued attacking. It was a trap!

Suddenly a cry of surprise then another and another joined by still more, then finally a chorus of shouts of panic as gun fire resumed from below through the still glowing, smoking holes. Now the cries became those of pain and terror from below immediately followed by more grenades going off. Megwa chittered into his translator box. The booming voice spoke.

"They are humans that are being subjugated by the Other's nanites. We must beware of them if we come in contact with them. Some if not all of them will be lost to its control if they do not withdraw from its reach through the husks that have been taken over," said the voice box.

"Sergent we may be biting off more than even we can chew in this augmented form," spoke Anakowski. "I strongly suggest that we attempt a search for the equivalent of a flight bay where we can acquire transportation out of here," he finished. More chittering was entered by Megwa into his translator box, followed by the booming voice.

"Brethren. to accomplish relocation to transport will require going down," the box spoke. More cries were forthcoming from below.

"What about an alternative path that takes us around these nanites. Is there another way we can reach our objective without risking too much contact?" asked Anakowski.

More chittering, "Yes we can travel out side along the outer walkways. This has been done especially towards the end before the PULSE too place," answered Megwa's box.

"I say we take the outer path Sargent Gibbons. My job is to get all of you out of here safely. If those things can do that kind of damage to Chinese Marines, we'd do well to heed the lesson we've just listened in on," he finished.

OOC: this character is a blank slate. literally.

    IC: Letan Vadee
    location: ?

The sangheili slowly regained consciousness, rising from the black deep of sleep to a semi aware state. The world seemed loud and noisy to him, though to most it would have seemed utterly still. Medical equipment hummed softly around him, with an occasional click or clack, to show gods knew what. Gods? Where had that come from, that reverent expression. He searched but could find no answers. He slowly opened an eye, closing it in pain from the soft purple light. Now that he thought about it, he could find anything in his mind. There were no feelings, no memories, nothing. He didn?t even know his name, as hard as he tried to find it. The dark emptiness of his mind threatened to engulf him, and he forced his eyes open, fighting to keep them that way in the sudden light. He sat up, and the blackness retreated behind him, though he knew it was still there. Glancing around the room, his icy blue eyes stopped on a white set of armor on a table next to him. The white was marked by splatters of a viscous purple liquid. He swirled his fingers around in it, trying to remember. ?AAAARGGGHH!!!!? he screamed and grabbed his head as a shard of memory ripped itself back into his mind.
The ship?s lights flickered in and out, in and out. He raised his clawed hand and balled it in a fist, signaling to the sangheili behind him to stop. They obeyed. He raised his gun, seeing a hulking form standing just beyond the reach of the now dead lights. Seeing another moving form on the ceiling above him, he tracked the vile shadow, intending to shoot the creature. A shot rang out across the deck, but it was not his. A glowing circular orb of superheated plasma screamed across the deck and struck him full force. He spun, taking several more hits, and then hit the floor with a dull whump. He saw to of the sangheili in his command rush forward and grab his arms. Then all light withdrew.
The sangheili opened his eyes again and realized he was on the floor. Struggling to his knees, he saw the door open with a gentle hiss and a sangheili jumped into the room, concern and fear written across his face. ?Are you all right, Commander Letan?? the one in light blue armor asked, obviously not happy. Letan. So that was his name. A name was good start, at least. ?Yes, Minor caranee,? he said. where did that name come from, caranee? Caranee? The more he thought about it, the more right it sounded. ?Leave me.?
The sangheili nodded and retreated out the portal, door closing behind him. He stood, turning back to the white armor. He had been hit in combat. He knew that much, but precious little else. He put the white armor on, piece by piece, wondering. He stopped at the helmet, gazing into the eyeholes. They told him nothing, stoically hoarding what they knew. No matter. He slipped the helmet on. It went on smoothly, perfectly setting into the contours of his head. He took a step towards the door, growing more confident with each passing moment. He stepped in front of the door, and pressed his hand into the holographic panel. The door opened with a gentle hiss, and he gazed at the space beyond it. It was daunting, he thought, to look out at the world and realize that you knew nothing.

IC: As LPC Colonel Chen Xu with accompanying Chinese, Peoples Liberation Army, Marines Battalion, LPC Major Xai Wu with Tiger Company.

"The Dragon and the Silver Serpentine"

"Pull back out of their reach before it's too late!" yelled Major Xai Wu, as jets of silver nanites shot through his forward troops who'd engaged the reanimated covenant corpses that had been slaughtered mere moments before. This wasn't right something was terribly wrong. Those in the embrace of these freakish monsters were screaming now in both pain and terror. Worse still those that had first succumbed to this trap were turning their weapons on his men who were coming up to assist their trapped comrades. Something was controlling the Covenant Soldiers. Something totally alien to both Humanity and the Covenant as well. He had to report back to Colonel Chen!

IC: as Letan Vadee, and my new second PC, Lorik Maudee!

    -Lorik
the door to the medbay opened and Letan, his commander, stepped out. Lorik didn't know quite what, but something was wrong about Letan. very wrong. when the ultra glanced his way without a second thought, he knew what it was. his memory was gone! the realization made Lorik shudder. all the comradeship they had was gone, replaced by what? emptiness? a lack of a past? He strode back after the commander had dismissed him, following Letan into the weapons locker. "commander? are you going down to help the marines?"

    -Letan
standing in the weapons locker, he looked behind his shoulder to see the sangheili who had been outside his door when he had woken up. he felt like he should know the being, but he had no memory of him. he heard the elite say "commander? are you going down to help the marines?"
he nodded slowly, hearing the cries from the marines even here. "yes."
