They tried to make a 'lightsaber' by filling a fluorescent light tube with gasoline.

My guess is its "stickiness" was set to expire 3 years after the first post, by Dorkman, on November 10th 2005.

A great comedian once told me "Always use the third joke".

We really should try that more.

Get a pipe and stick it on the end of a broom stick.

Just like Star Wars, you have to just be yourself when making a saber hilt.

thecustomsabershop.com has some modules that'll kinda teach you, but thebigyellowbox.com has instructions for HOW.

Is bigyellowbox still up? Last I remember going there was early this year and they hadn't updated in years. Is it still a geocities site?

I'm not sure, but it's one of the sites that doesn't really need updating.

Hey i know you guys posted alot about how to make the "Lightsaber effect" on movies. But what really wonders my mind ( even tho that is pretty cool) is How in the world they had created the effect in the actuall star wars movies?? [face_coffee]

There's about a 100 topics/threads that cover that effect, and IIRC, the effect was done with roto and a glow plugin for the movies.

    Oh, Fleischer. How we forget.

For the PT, it was done with computer methods, but for the OT it was done straight on film. The technique drawing the core digitally is very true to the old method in spirit, creating a matte for where the blade will be. However, instead of applying a digital plug-in, they actually painted in the glows for each frame. I believe there were multiple layers comped in for the diffusion of the glow.
I'm not really positive about the specifics, but that's the basic run-down.

Are the Custom Saber Shop modules all hollow? Can I build a stunt saber with them?

The Custom Saber Shop has it's own forums. Just letting you know. My name over there is ARKM.

Yes, they are hollow and are primarily designed to take electronics however I don't see why one couldn't use them as stunt sabers. I believe their blade holders for EL (electroluminescent) sabers use a 3/4" inside diameter which would work great with Randomsabers carbon fiber blade accessory kit. The blade holders for LED sabers have a 1" inside diameter.

ebay is also a great resource for stunt sabers. You can often find them with no reserve and with a very low starting bid (like $1).

Thanks Henchman. I'm digging through their forums now (missed them at first because I was too busy drooling). As long as I know they're hollow I can make adapters. Their modular system looks REALLY cool.
