Okay just light politics, this must be discussed (not intensivelly, just the basics)

When I watched the news last night and I saw this "statement" of the CP, I just immediatelly remembered Episode I.

So Is Paul Martin the Sith Lord... or is it Jack Clayton.

Jack would sure fit the profile, all giddy and fun by day and puppet master by night ^-^

I'm sorry but the words use were just wayyyyy too well chosen not to be mentionned here.

I wouldn't use quite so strong an adjective as Kit used above, but would agree that Harper is most like Palpatine, and Martin is more akin to Chancellor Valorum.

Jack Layton still doesn't quite fit in anywhere does he? Poor NDP.

    ugh I forgot the << :p >>.

Harper isn't all bad, he just isn't the man for the job, IMHO.

If the Bloc weren't seperatists, I'd probably vote for them.

I'd take crooked liberals over the PC any day. I prefer being Canadian as opposed to American.

I'd actually argue that Layton would be most like Palpatine mainly because he's the nice little man that no one really knows too much about in the general public. For all we know, if he got voted in, BAM, clone army.

Valorum is definatly closest to Martin. Not well liked among the other politicians. Takes forever to make a decision. Decides to always go the safe route rather than doing the job he was elected to do.

Harper is like Jar Jar. Misunderstood. Not really expected to lead in any way. Just looking for a friend in the senate. Oh, and there is a likelyhood that he could do something so stupid it would mean the end of democracy forever.

[hr][/blockquote]Because of your age, I'll forgive your ignorance of exactly what the Mulroney and Mike Harris governments did, and how long it took (will take) just to correct those grievious errors. The Tory party has never been about the "middle class". At least not in my lifetime. They are big business first and foremost.

Oh, and for a first post, you should really read the terms of service you agreed to when you signed up. Assuming you aren't just a sock. I expect an edit to happen soon.

Surprising? I think every Tory across the country, my Dad included, nearly had a heart attack. :p

Man, calm down and it's no longer the PC, but the Conservative Party of Canada. ;)

scary scary Harper, he wears too much make up.

i agree w Belinda the Tories are not mature enough in their power to stand with the Bloc and not get swallowed. We may have problems w Quebec but there are alot of english speaking people in that province. Too much power for the Bloc equals the loss of that entire province.

(where a lot of my friends from college now work in animation houses)

As far as Belinda Stronach's little stunt is concerned, I wonder what her constituents think of her crossing the floor, and does she even care? She was clearly bought by the Liberals, and fits in very well with that corrupt lot.

i don't think it's fair to label all the liberals as crooked, our Bonnie Brown works really hard for Oakville, and is true to the vision of a healthy, green Canada where everyone has choices and options.

She is also extremely down to earth and well spoken.

i fear for a Canada that follows the strict views of our southern brethren.

I am glad the Torys were beaten. The last thing this country needs is a majority conservative government. Ontario is in deficit because of a few years of Conservative rule, Canada was in major debt after Mulrooney left. We are better off with the somewhat corrupt liberals.

But really, can any party say they are 100% free of corruption? I doubt it.

Canada was in major debt after Mulrooney left.

Actually, Canada is in debt because of Trudeau, not the conservatives.

And let's not forget that whole "I think I'll give millions of tax dollars to my friends" idealogy of Martin's procussor, Jean Chretien, while Martin was in head of what again...???

    ... oh yeah, FINANCE

The Trudeau Liberals began the debt problems and the Conservatives continued them; they both share the responsibility of the debt. Although, to be fair, under the Cretien Liberals the debt had been decreasing.

And since Canadian voters will always vote in either a Liberal or Conservative government, there will never be any significant changes in the way government runs--fiscally, morally, or otherwise. To my mind there is very little difference between the Liberals and Conservatives, and what differences exist are very cosmetic. Politics is a lot like sports, we cheer for the team that wears our colours, but there isn't really any difference between our team and the others.

i think this buget is a promising one.

i like the way the tories cpomplain about the sponsership scandel, and then all but shut down the house trying to waste time before the decision ton the budget.....

Like having the house sitting around at a stand still is not wasting taxpayers money.

I think we need to dump Martin but not in favour of the PC. The PC represents everything I hate about the US. Canada has always been so much farther ahead of the US on social issues and the PC party wants to slam us right back with the US. The NDP will one day be good to lead Canada but I don't think Canada is ready for them to lead yet. Harper is more concerned with sucking up to the Americans to worry about anything Canadians care about. Our heathcare system will be the first to go if he has his way. I've always said that the thing that matters to me most is that if me or anybody in my family is sick, the government will get them the medical care then need without sending them a bill worth more than their house.

    Hi everyone!
I enjoy politics and I say that I am more conservative thene anything BUT I dislike Harper. Martin is a twit and I dont like Layten because the NDP getting in power means that greenpeace wins (greenpeace: the REAL taliban) and the block want to ruin Canada altogether.
What I would like to see is a Liberal party with the same values and morals of the conservatives. Dreams aside, Canada is faceing some dark times...
I take great interest and conserne in the politics because I feel it's my duty, being a decendant of Sir Charles Tupper after all, and it just hurts to see all this coruption and whining wene we need to work one preserving Canada's identity. We are becomming too Americanized and we are not to far off from being "America Jr.", what with all this talk of missle defence and fortress North America.
