Here are the top 50 Science Fiction movies, according to IMDB's ratings. It'll be interesting to see what they say, vs. what we think...

    50. Akira (1988)

Not a bad flick. The beginning is awesome, then it goes into la-la land. I usually fall asleep or shut it off when it goes all weird.

    49. Iron Man (2008)

One of the better comic book movies. Like most, it could be better, but there are far worse. Since I am NOT a comic book person, I have no reference, so I'll just say that I enjoy this, and it is a good introduction to the series. I can re-watch it far more often than Akira, that's for sure.

    47 E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

WTF is this doing so low? Are people stupid? There are plenty of flicks rated above this that are no way better than ET, IMHO.

Never seen it. Is it better than ET? I doubt it.

    45. Jurassic Park (1993)

OK, I'll admit it --I think this is better than ET. The visuals are awesome, and the soundtrack is pure John Williams excellence. (Although I do not like the other JP movies, the first one had great story, characters and at least a semi-plausible plot.)

Good olde classic Sci-Fi right here.

Never seen it, but reading the synopsis, it sounds like a 2001 remake. Is it any good?

    38. Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion (1997)

I'm just not that big of an anime fan. Looking at the number of votes that some of these lesser known, higher ranking movies have, I'm going to guess that they have a very small, but rabid fan base.

    37. The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)

I'm somewhat surprised that this is so low. This is one of the best 50's Sci Fi movies. Not as campy as others, it comes with a big message, especially with the end of WWII and the rise of the Cold War. I'd rank this way above some of the others that are ranked higher.

I watched this back in High School, and have never really felt the need to re-watch it. I remember it being somewhat thought-provoking. Is it worth re-watching?

    34. Young Frankenstein (1974)

As much as I love Mel Brooks movies, I ahve never watched this all the way through. When I have seen it on TV, it never grabbed me enough to make me want to watch it all the way through.

Still not better than ET or TDTESS.

Classic. I'm waiting for this to come in on Netflix so I can see it again. Still not convinced that it is better than TDTESS.

Good flick, but I don't know if it deserves this high of a ranking.
