On Friday, this note thing went around school and it basically went on about the way our principal enforces the uniform. (It wasn't very nice, so I'll say no more about it). But on Monday, our principal said that it was the P&C that chose the uniforms, not the Administration. I think the point was missed.

That was ok, though. But, as of today, missing the bus/train (which I can sort of understand), the bus/train being late or the bus driver refusing to pick you up, is no longer a valid excuse for being late and we'll get a detention...

    I hate my school...

Day two of the new job. After coming from a place where I was very comfortable, knew all the people and knew exactly what I was doing - going to a place where I know no-one, feel awkward, have no idea what I'm doing and feeling generally useless...

So far, things aren't too bad. Still settling. Don't like the feeling of being completely out of my depth though, and feeling very small.

Got some work today this afternoon though that I feel like I can get a decent grip on - so that's nice.

This is probably what it was like when I was first working in DES - I didn't know what I was doing back then either. I didn't have an old job to miss back then, however.

There's a fish bowl at the reception desk - the fish inside is named, 'Sushi.' I was suitably amused, although mildly concerned for the fish in question. :p

I can't imagine that gold fish are particularly tasty, or a particularly large meal for anything other than a cat.

Today I needed some work completed by another section. So I went to the manager and had a chat with him, voiced my concern in my normal unsubtle way over a particular member of his staff and went on my merry way.

So then the manager came back to me and said that said staff member had really turned around and my being negative about it wouldn't help the situation and said staff member was really the best to help me out and it was a good chance to prove that said staff member was capable of the work. And it didn't piss me off. I found him completely reasonable and agreeable even though I'm sure he was chiding me on being a little blunt. I had no issue with it whatsoever. Was perfectly happy with the decision, would go with the flow, and hope it worked.

When I got back to my desk it made me wonder what is the difference between him and my current manager. I mean if my manager had given a similar speech I probably would have been ready to throw something.

I worked nearly two years under the other manager, and I found him to be a generally reasonable fellow. I suppose I trust him when he says, hey we've got the situation undercontrol. Unlike my current manager (who I've worked for for less than 6 months) to which most of my responses both verbal and non-verbal, are bull**** or something close to. Sure, the guy seems nice enough, just every time he opens his mouth I get the overwhelming impression he is lying through his teeth.

Just seems odd that two people with similar personalities and attitudes manage to illict such a ocmpletely different response. Makes me extra glad for the bout of gastro that struck at such a time to make it impossible for me to apply for a permanent position under this (my current) manager.

It is weird isn't it. I guess it's just that you get a feeling about someone..even if they get stuff done, you're just not sure how or what lies they're telling to do it. And if it feels like they're lying about one thing..what else might not be quite right.

In the workplace of course..I generally like people that can lie really well :)

So I'm sitting at my barber's to get a haircut for this Wedding I'm MCing at the end of the month, flicking through a specialist car magazine, as ZOO really doesn't appeal to me. Lack of interest in pneumatically breasted women aside, Tony Martin would regularly rip into this "publication" on his radio show and the hatred stuck.

The phone rings as I'm waiting; it's the Public Service Commission, wanting to arrange a job interview. Aside from the fact that such a job will turn me into Sir Humphrey Appleby (the merits or detriments of which I leave up to you, gentle reader), it's actually a good position, so hopefully the interview will go well. And at least I have a respectable haircut now too. Should shave though...

Incidentally, my barber had a Vault-Tec bobblehead. Fallout 3 is the gaming equivalent of Harry Potter books now :p

Went to a Kate Miller-Heidke concert last night in town - so we were driving in just as those ridiculously black clouds were rolling in on top of us. We decided to park under cover (good call we thought), and just as we started walking from the park it started bucketing down. We ran for the nearest sheltering shop front and stayed there for a good 15 - 20 minutes as the rain went from bucketing, to deluge, to where-did-all-the-air-go-there's-only-water-oh-Gooood. Then it started hailing. Eventually it settled back down and went to bucketing, so we figured it might be a good time to make a run for it - needless to say we were absolutely drenched by the time we got to the Tivoli. well, to be fair we were drenched from just standing under the awning.

It was that kind of insanity that you can really only laugh at. So crazy.

So yeah, we had fun last night. Kate was good. So sleepy now though - coffee hasn't kicked in. Hoping I don't have a cold from all that standing around in a soggy fashion. [face_thinking]

I finished up at the Gabba last week - It was a frustrating kind of day - I didn't have any work I could do, I was feeling bad about knocking back an invitation to go to coffee with the boys and so on, and so then I broke the coffee mug that I've had at work for 2 years now and I felt like having a bit of a teary. Generally felt angry and frustrated leaving, and I couldn't really place why as I was looking forward to returning to Brisbane region.

But today I'm back at the valley and am generally alright about it - don't really have much to do, although had a few phone messages I needed to chase up when I got in - my pile of filing hasn't moved, so I've gotten stuck into that as well. Doesn't seem like much has changed here, although the uneasy sense of where I'll be after Christmas hovers a bit. Hmm. I kinda hope they somehow wrangle me a position here in Brisbane Region. It's unlikely, but it would be nice to stay again. But in the long run, so long as I have a job with fairly long term prospects, I guess that'll do as well.

Our current mail girl, when she came to collect the mail today, actually didn't take any of the mail - The outtrays are full and waiting to have their contents delivered. It's baffling and sort of infuriating.

I've been given a number of a boss in another area I need to call about a job they might have for me. Trying not to panic. Don't like calling people, or uncertainty, or change or all that bollocks.

Okay, made the call, meeting the guy on Friday RE: stuff. I think I need a nap now. [face_hypnotized] Just feel like curling up in a ball under my desk.

I hope this is all for the best.

Whew, what a few weeks(or is that months?) at my work.

Directed a series of web promo things and 'missions' for a laser skirmish website. They had basically no budget and only enough to film 67 scenes in 5 days but i decided to take it to further my career in directing. Was quite tough and i wish i had time to do some things better its a feather in the cap (i hope) - http://www.battlefieldlive.com.au

Went straight from that onto a history channel job as the Key costumer plus had an acting role. Its about a number of Victoria cross medal winners and will be out later this year.
Most recently i worked on an upcoming episode of 'thank god your here' at its new home on channel 7. They are taking off "Valkyrie" and had to do up a few germane uniforms with a days notice:rolleyes:

other then that, the new "wolverine" trailer is doing it rounds on the net. You can catch a glimpse or two of the military scenes I worked on - I'm happy with how they look. There was a "Pacific" trailer a few days ago but hbo pulled it. Needless to say it looked amazing and, imho, better then it's predecessor - Band of brothers.

I really have to keep checking the war room thread to see what everyone is up too as i've been in town alot lately but, yeah need to catch up. has the battlestar season 4 viewing been and gone?

Yeah unfortunately, but we can furnish you with copies if you need to catch up. And we may get together again after the first couple of episodes have aired so we can all get up to speed. Been meaning to organise those general "stuff" sessions.

I may need some of those old style German helmets from you in the next year :p

Looking forward to Wolverine and The Pacific! And yeah, keep checking the War Room.

    Be seeing you,

I've seen a "Pacific" trailer somewhere - not sure id it was History Cahnnel or not - could have been in the cinemas - but yeah it looked very purdy - hopefully the story's as good.

The WW2 part of the Wolverine Trailer looked quite good too. Gambit's not what I'd expected but still - I'm not a major fan so maybe it's truer.

Good to hear you're keeping busy (enough) Luke. Wonder how 7 can handle German WW2 tastefully while being funny. Good luck to them...hope it's like "Top Secret".

I hate my school. I got two detentions this week, for being late, for the first (and second) time in over a year. I was late because of circumstances out of my control, and I guess I was just having a bad week...

I'm just glad nobody noticed that my socks didn't quite cover my ankles.

I'm pretty sure totalitarian rule is not condoned by the Education Department....

I'm pretty sure it's not condoned either. Rather... it's encouraged. I was fairly certain the deputy principal at my high school was a reincarnation of Reinhard Heydrich. The sod even enjoyed walking around in black boots, black trousers, a white collared shirt and a leather jacket that wouldn't have looked out of place with SS runes on the collars.

A very busy Saturday in the city on account of a street parade for the Limerick Appreciation Guild or some such... Commerce & Humanity at it's finest to be sure, to be sure. Forgive me for being daft, but seeing as though the parade seems to be for St Patty's Day... Shouldn't it be held on a more appropriate day.. Oh, I dunno like.. St Patty's Day???
