    Jedi Outcast(TM) Playable Demo
    Completely New Level - Not in Release Version of the Game
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    LucasArts.com is pleased to announce that the playable demo for Star
    Wars® Jedi Knight II®: Jedi Outcast(TM) will be available for download
    on Friday, May 10th!
    Gameplay takes place in a COMPLETELY NEW LEVEL not found in the actual
    retail version of Jedi Outcast! An early version of this level
    originally premiered at E3 2001. Scores of fans have asked about it
    since then, so the team cleaned it up and added more dialogue,
    cutscenes, textures and doubled the size of the map.
    In the demo, Kyle not only has access to five different weapons (Bryar
    Pistol, Stormtrooper Rifle, Flechette, Thermal Detonators and the
    Seeker), but he also has his lightsaber and various Force Powers
    including Force Jump, Push, Heal and Mind Trick.
    For the latest information regarding Jedi Outcast, be sure to visit
    the Official Site!
    i hope they release the patch the same time they release the demo.
    I am gonna DL the demo even though I have the game too, since its not a level in the game (supposedly).
    I'll probably wait until someone pulls the level out of the Demo and makes it available for DL (if that's allowed).
    Thanks jp :D
    Well, I just finished the Demo...
    Playing at 800*600, at the lowest settings (16bit), it was smooth, with only a few framerate dips here and there, not too shabby.
    For starters, this is my first JO experience.
    The Demo is disappointingly short tho :( I don't know how long it took for them to create it, but I woulda preferred a Fuel Station Launch-esque (the length, complexity, challenge and it's position in the "middle" of the game) level instead.
    You start out with the saber (yay!) and the bryar, pick up the flechette (crappy gun imho eheh), and the stormie rifle, a pack of thermals, and that's it. I played through the demo in Jedi Knight difficulty setting, and I died quite a few times hehehe. Start out with no shield, and the feel of the guns were kinda different. I just finished DF last week, so I'm still mildly adjusting.
    For such a big file, I woulda expected some multiplayer support, but alas... none.
    Force powers available are speed, pull, push, grip(? dont think it worked, but it was in teh bindings), jump(the default jump which takes some getting used to) and persuasion. Those are the only ones (apart from jump) which are bindable. Are others bindable too (like absorb, lightning etc.) in teh retail?
    Stormie AI is pretty neat, the officers are kinda dumb, and the the couple of reborn you get to fight are not too shabby either. It's a pretty big "arena" you get to duel them, and it's fun practising wall jumps and the saber moves there.
    The crosshair in FPS appears that it auto-seeks (is there an option to turn that off?), which is kinda annoying when aiming at distant objects while hiding behind boxes.
    The checkpoint thingy is a nice touch, and this particular level didn't have many health powerups (which I don't mind) but takes a while to get used to going around with under 100 health.
    The saber is neat, still need to learn to do the backstab and other moves (like chaining).
    Overall, the demo is ok, but very short, but it gave me a nice overlook nonetheless for the game. Since I'm biased and am gonna buy the game anyways, I can't tell how others might react to the demo. (make them buy JO or not)
    Still, it ran better than SoF and RtCW in my system, so I've got no issues in the hardware area.
    Last question (I hate venturing to the other JO threads, I still would like to be spoiler free)... can you cut past the cutscenes in the retail?
    Why would they release a demo of the game AFTER it's been released and the majority of gamers already have it? I bought it, finally, last week after a couple of my friends already have beat it.
    I'm not really good at games, but I'm on the 17th level on Jedi but I find myself having to look at walkthroughs on gamespot.com to get past certain levels. They put puzzles in the hardest of places....it gets really frustrating.
    But anyway, what's up with the demo? I thought demos came out BEFORE the game itself? IS Lucasarts just trying to make more money off of us?
    One gripe I have about JO: I hate the slow motion deaths when you kill reborns. What is up with that?
    Use key.. ahh.. I tried enter and escape lol...
    As for the demo after the release, it's a common practice to release one after the game goes retail. Nothing special with LEC. I guess they wanted to do this new level for the demo...
    As for the reborn dying slow-mo, there's an option in the setup for never,death-only, normal, frequently, rarely, etc. Just select never.
    I played through the demo again and breezed through it. I finally realized heal was in the game too (lol) and I think there's only 2 stances in the demo. Fast and medium (green bar and the orange/yellow bar). Health and shields only go up to 100. Is that right?
    I upped the vid settings this time too, and didnt notice any considerable framerate drops. Bumped everythign up to 32bit, and medium settings, added wall marks and some shadows. Not too bad. Considerably runs smoother than SoF and RtCW did when those 2 ran at the lowest settings. I'm pleased.
    only takes 2 minutes to load the level too!
    But, LEC shoulda went with a longer level and/or MP options. Such a big dl, I think I won't recommend dial-uppers to even bother. Unless they're hardcore
    Do you really need that download program? This .exe stuff? I can't really believe I would do that, as it seems quite insecure... what does that program do? Raise your phone bill?
    Grey, that exe stuff is because the file hoster (gigex), uses it's own program to serve files, which guarantees blindingly fast speeds and can reconnect automatically incase your net or computer dies. I've used it quite a bunch and I assure you, there is no security risk. Just put "no" in the email field if you don't want to receive emails.
    V Wing - My computer is old and crappy. 'Nuff said. 2 minutes isn't too bad a wait tho. I'm a patient person.
    As for the demo, I'm gonna try all the cheats and command line stuff to see if they work. It'll be interesting to spawn Luke and co. and hopefully get a chance to fight more baddies and practise some more.
    Alright folks,
    I thought I was on my own as I can't really afford JO for a couple of months and have been waiting for the demo. But it is now at the very top of my list. Nice one.
    Just one question...
    I assume custom levels have been made for JO already (a la JK & MOTS) can I download these and use them with the demo or is the demo totally self contained?
    But I've gotta say: Best.Game.Ever.
    Cheers folks...
    Does anyone have a link to the actual demo file ?
    This crappy gigex util keeps disconnecting without DLing anything. You know, the endless connecting/lost connection loop.
    I want to use my good ol' Download Acclerator. :_|
    Yes mate,
    I used this one:
    http://www.ccgr.org/jk2.exe
    There are other ones listed on TFN under the Video Games section, but the File Shack one wanted me to join or something...
    It's just over 60mb I think, so a DL Manager is very good thinking.
    Enjoy...
