PS - Sorry this is only being posted last minute. I only noticed today that a Meeting thread for October had not yet been posted.

I thought that problems with posting meeting dates and minutes had been adressed and that the correct people would be taking care of their responcibilities. Looks like that still needs a little work.

I just wanted to let all of you know that I might have to be late to the meeting tomorrow.

Riley, the older of my family's two Yorkies passed away earlier today and my mother and step-father will be burrying him sometime tomorrow morning. I need to be there. The two of them are going to be emotional wrecks, and to be honest, I'm not sure how well I'm going to be taking it myself. But I still need to be there for them.

If I'm done early enough I will still try to meet up with all of you at the museum.

I'll e-mail Abhay the agenda for the meeting, so you can run it with out me if you need to.

    -- Dan

    Docking Bay 516 -- Meeting 83
    October 11, 2009

    Meeting started at 11:50 AM.

    Club Business

Bio Kit (aka Marketing Document). Some minor spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes were fixed. Information about the Best Bargain Books event was added. Dan is not quite satisfied with its current state, but it is close to completion. Billy suggested including a copy of the Newsday article for the bookstore event. Rob will ask the bookstore folks if they have that article.

Meeting Information. The meeting thread on the message boards appeared very late. Also, the automated reminder message on the Yahoo group was incorrect. We addressed these issues at a prior meeting, but apparently they require further attention. Dan and Dana will take care of this.

Website. Triss is having technical difficulties updating the site. Billy will request assistance from Steven to try to resolve this.

    Previous Events

SWD at Pottery Barn Kids. Apparently the Rebel Legion and/or the 501st held a Star Wars Day event at Pottery Barn Kids in the Roosevelt Field Mall. Despite being the local Fanforce club, we were not informed.

    Upcoming Conventions

Oct 16-18 Big Apple Convention, Pier 94 in Manhattan. Several of us will be there over the three days. http://www.wizardworld.com/home-apple.html

Oct 30-Nov 1 Chiller Theatre, Hilton Parsippany, NJ. The usual suspects will attend Saturday. http://www.chillertheatre.com/

Nov 13-15 New England Fan Experience, Boston, MA. None of us will attend this year. http://www.nefanx.com/

    Upcoming Events

Nov 6 Yikes: The History of Movie Stunts, Island Trees Public Library, Island Trees, NY. Starts at 6:30 PM. Yikes is one of Clive's new library programs. This library is about a mile from the Applebee's on 107 in Bethpage (or maybe Hicksville), though it's technically in Levittown. http://bit.ly/AWyxv

Nov 8 Star Wars Day at Hollywood Video, Massapequa, NY. Meet at 1 PM. The event will run from 2 PM to 5 PM. No new information. http://bit.ly/4uMBSc

Dec 20 Holiday Party, Rob's place, Ronkonkoma, NY. We plan to grab lunch somewhere (The Good Steer?) then start at 2 PM. Since the party is being held at a member's house, the event is considered invitation-only. Please email or post for more information.

    Event Planning

Star Wars Day at Best Bargain Books reprise. We have decided to wait until January, as no author guest is available for a December event. The next step is to propose event dates. Rob will follow up.

    I-CON Planning

New dates (March 26-28) and location (back at SUNY Stony Brook and Holiday Inn). We are upbeat about the location, though some folks will have trouble with the early dates.

Dealer Room Table. Our usual channel for obtaining a table presence in the Dealer Room will not be available this year. We decided to ask for a table from the three tracks we help (Fun Stuff, Masquerade, and Media), but we are willing to live with a table in the registration area.

Many Panels. We are still interested in presenting as many as two dozen panels at I-CON. Billy will email the list of panel ideas and associated volunteers to the group to confirm interest.

Large Event. John Hudson, the EC of I-CON, has asked every group to put together one "large" event to help drum up publicity and interest. We have decided that the Star Wars Variety Show will be our large event.

Website. Cindy from Fun Stuff has asked us for our info to be placed on the I-CON website. Billy will send Abhay the Variety Show description. Then Abhay will send that along with the usual logo and club description to Cindy.

Hotel Rooms. Billy suggested that everybody who wants a hotel room at I-CON should make reservations soon (this month).

    Upcoming Meetings

Nov 15 Meeting 84, Broadway Mall. Election nominations. This meeting is one week later than usual because of the Hollywood Video event.

Dec 13 Meeting 85, Broadway Mall. Elections and selection of meeting dates for next year.

Jan 10 Meeting 86, Broadway Mall. The date is tentative but likely, subject to meeting date revisions at the December meeting.

    Meeting ended at 3:0

I was rather annoyed to find out that there was a Rebel Legion/501st Star Wars event at Roosevelt Field that we didn't find out about until after the fact.

We should have known about this.

    I don't know.

All I know is that we didn't hear about it from our CR, and we only found out about it after the fact when Abhay saw it on somebody's Facebook page.
