Official Info Michael Arndt no longer writing Episode VII

I don't get the Kasdan love. What has he done since ROTJ that's been of merit? I have not seen The Big Chill. With that said, I am hopeful that it's a matter of him being uniquely suited to writing Star Wars films while being mediocre in other genres.

 

For me, I think what he's done for SW work is what's most relevant here.

 

They're calling Catching Fire the best sequel since TESB. Didn't Arndt write the screenplay for it?

 

Catching Fire is a very good movie. It's hard to tell how much credit should be given to Arndt for making it a good movie though because it stayed almost a 100% true to the book. You could take pretty much any scene in the movie and find that exact same scene in the book and in many cases they took the dialogue straight from the book as well.

The real writer for the movie was Suzanne Collins. Arndt's biggest task would have been to find out which scenes should have been included and which scenes from the book should have been left out because they couldn't have fit everything from the book into a 2 and half hour long movie.

 

The same could be asked of the post-ROTJ Star Wars filmmakers/screenwriters, and the answer would be nothing.

 

He Arndt writing it no more.

 

That sucks, I guess?

 

Firing Arndt turns out to be a bad idea, but JJ seems to be having a lot of bad ideas right now.

JJ and Lawrence Kasdan have finished the script according to the latest JJ interview!!!

 

Call me crazy, but I think it's super-duper to have Kasdan writing!

 

Silverado was absolutely amazing.

The Accidental Tourist was a modest 80s hit that got 5 Oscar noms, including for writing.

The Bodyguard was one of the biggest worldwide hits of the 90s.

Both Grand Canyon and Mumford are an underrated gems.

Big or little films, Kasdan has a track record where the good far outweighs the bad.

 

That's all nice, but more recently, the man has done little.

 

Which has absolutely nothing to do with my comment since I specifically addressed the following:

I think it's a good thing to have a veteran who worked on the ESB script on for the new movie. Arndt being fired at the very least shows that there's a feedback loop involved in the making of this film, something the PT didn't have.

 

Again, we don't know Arndt was fired... we don't know what happened behind the scenes.
